67°F and partly cloudy this morning, going up to 85° today. Some storms expected later today.

We had a series of storms blow through the area yesterday evening. The winds along the leading edge were stiff, to say the least. Wife and I were out walking around the property when it kicked up, and we got pelted with oak tree tassels before we got inside. Both of us having long hair, we spent a little time trying to get them all out. The farmer's field across the road lost a lot of topsoil, too. He just planted over the weekend, and the dust stirred up was so thick that it looked like a sandstorm. We couldn't even see the trees in the front yard for a few minutes. No serious damage from the winds, but we lost a lot of the loose straw in the yard, and most of the hanging dead tree branches are easier to reach now. Didn't get a whole lot of rain out of it, though.

The electrician popped by yesterday and started running the new line to the barn. He got it connected at the barn and to the pole in the yard, but stopped there. It's sagging down to about 10 feet, so I'm going to help him raise it a bit when he comes back on Saturday. Then he can finish connecting it to the well house, and we'll have power in the barn once again. That will be nice.

RNG; What sort of resolution do your new cameras have, L4N? I was disappointed with a recent game camera purchase that, even when set at the highest resolution, couldn't produce a picture of my driveway area in which one could clearly make out the license plate number on an approaching vehicle. But that may also have been a matter of poorly designed optics as well.

Here is one of the shots from yesterday. I still have to reset the time and date thingy.

The little flashes in front of the screen are bugs.

The low this morning was 31*. It was in the low 50's with a afternoon shower yesterday. Today is going to be partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon showers with a high in the 60's.

We got the chainsaw running and worked on the fence for a few hours yesterday. Also found some more trees down on it. I need to cut some more trees down for poles to fix it. The ones that have come down on the fence are to big to use as poles. The pine beetles are still killing a lot of the trees around here.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Andrew, here's a pic of the potato plow aka middlebuster plow. Three point hitch, made for smaller tractors.

Sort of like the thing I've seen here, just usually with a bunch of rods welded on the back to sort of sort out the potatoes from the soil.

There are also two types that are PTO driven potato removers on the market here. One seems quite violent-- a wheel like thing that flings them out, whereas the other digs through the ground and then has a vibrating conveyor belt of metal rods that shakes the dirt away.

Interesting about the Chinese interest in Paulownia.

I recently bought a new 12-string electric guitar with the body made of Paulownia. Interesting wood. Nearly as light as Balsa, it seems, but still somehow gets an acceptable tone. May be too light, in fact, as this instrument suffers from severe neck dive, as there's simply not enough weight to counterbalance the weight of the neck and headstock. It's just a studio guitar for me, so I don't really mind that. I'd never even heard of that wood until I found that guitar.

@RNG-- does the grass switch from nonflammable to flammable at 10? :-D

That is another thing to factor in-- three posts around each tree to keep the goats from destroying it until big. Otherwise, I read Paulownia is used in agroforestry, presumably the leaves are edible.

Rain until now. In-laws were here earlier. I told FIL it was going to rain in the morning (though I thought just an hour or so), but we got everything loaded up to move the fence for goats. I just dragged my feet enough when I checked the radar to make sure it started raining before we left. Not really up for driving 15 minutes to the back of the field to get caught in a downpour. Rain was worse than I expected, which is good though, because the potatoes and corn I planted two weeks ago really need some, as well as the grass in the fields.

Now the rain is over for the rest of the day, so going to set up fence on my own.

I'm about the farthest thing you'll find here from a gungho vegetarian, Don, but that dressing recipe sounds delicious. As an engineer, though, I'd need the full recipe before I could build a batch. Just make sure it's EPA approved, 'cause I don't wanna end up in the same hot water as those VW guys.

The Ranch recipe is really for plant based people only but since you are an Instant Pot owner I let you slide in.
This recipe is from Dr. Greger's cook book. Ranch Dressing The nuts add fat so use it sparingly as a condiment. I never use more than a tablespoon per meal. last about 2 weeks in the fridge. The DR says miso does have salt but that the it also has anti carcinogenic and antihypertensive benefits of the soy that counter the effects of the salt.
1/2 cup cashews soaked 3 hours and drained
2 cloves roasted garlic
1/2 cup almond milk
2 TBS rice vinegar
2 teaspoons blended peeled lemon
1 TBS chopped red onion
2 teaspoons Savory spice blend ( see recipe below)
1 teaspoon white miso
3/4 teaspoon date sugar
1 TBS parsley
1 teaspoon dill

combine in high speed blender except the dill and parsley, sprinkle on last. makes about 1.5 cups. Frigate for an hour before serving, longer better.

___________________________
The Savory Spice blend:
2 TBS nutritional yeast
1 TBS onion powder
1 TBS dried parsley
1 TBS dried basil
2 teaspoons dried thyme
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons dry mustard
2 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
Blend all together in blender. Store in air tight container.

Just made another batch, did not have date sugar so just threw in two dates, taste great.

For those who do not like vegetables this makes all the difference. Just think how your BBQ would taste without any spices or sauce just plain meat. It does not taste good. It's the seasonings that add all the flavor, you just have to treat vegetables the same way, give them top priority when preparing and they can soon take over as the main dish because they are delicious. There are other flavors out there other than bacon/pork and butter.

I'm enjoying the mornings right now, beautiful sunny, crisp early, then warming. Middle daughter is coming by later this morning to run the weed wacker awhile.. saves me having to use mask and getting hit with allergies.

RNG, agree on engineers making the diesels operate according to regs.

Very likely the resolution was severely compromised when it got uploaded to YouTube, L4N. Lorex has a very good reputation, and if you can clearly see identifying features like license plate numbers, hair and eye color, and tattoos, it should work well for you. Otherwise, the cops won't have much use for it, even though there may be a lot of it.
