Good Morning.
It’s 47 and going to the high 50’s today. Mostly overcast with a slight chance of rain today. We’ve gotten about 1-1/4” total over three dreary days. Tomorrow will be in the 20’s with a chance of snow.

Yesterday I went with my neighbor to look at the free lift to see how hard it will be to disassemble and move it. It’s a real nice unit, barely used. It was purchased to build a kit car, and once that was complete it just sat unused in a heated garage. Won’t be hard to move, it will be nice to have it just around the corner from me, and not taking up space in my shop.

Today is another day of taking it as it comes, no real plan. Probably clean up in the shop to keep me busy and distracted from the shingles discomfort. They’re more annoying than debilitating, can’t wait for them to be gone.

Not sure if I shared this before, but it’s a guy that you might recognize with one our airplanes when it was new, he set a batch of speed records in it, including NY to Paris, most of which still stand. He’s much more famous for breaking another speed barrier though.

54° a couple hrs north of Buppies. Rain all night. My son leaves soon to head down to TN. At first I looked at radar and it showed heavy rain, but it hadn’t updated. Right now it looks like weather ok for his trip, but 2-4” snow tonight.
Cold all week, what a change.
Got an alert from cell camera at home, neighbors dog walked by at 5:40 am.

You did...but always great to see and read about Chuck Yeager

Mom admitted to hospital, negative on Covid, giving her O2 is about all I know. I'm on my way.

Thanks for the prayers team!

Brrrrr 27F and windy 16F wind chill. I'm ready for summer too Bird.
Drive safe, and take care of your Mom!!
I wish you both all the best!

Good Morning!!!! 38F @ 5:00AM. A mix of clouds and sun during the morning will give way to cloudy skies this afternoon. High around 50F. Winds light and variable.
Nice sunny day yesterday, with brisk 50F high temp. Rain and wind return tomorrow.

The man staying in the other cabin came down sick during our stay, Drew, but helped cook dinner the first night. Now both my friend and I are sniffling, and hoping the symptoms don't get any worse. Oximeters at the ready.

Those sound like overly wintery conditions for Texas, Bird, and I can't blame you for wishing for warmer weather. Please feel free to keep them to yourself, though. 😄

General Yeager's widow posts regularly to Facebook, in mostly a "on this day in history" mode. Very interesting, and an ongoing reminder of his many accomplishments.

I did manage to get out for a while on the touring bike yesterday, riding up to where they have highway 70 closed due to a rock slide, then back down the hill, looping up to Paradise, back down again and home. Maybe 60 miles and an hour and a half, I didn't wanna stop but was a bit bored riding the same old roads. I was surprised at the amount of snow on the ridge tops, and to find a fair amount of sand on the roads as well. The new racks and bags worked just fine, but add some area to the side of the bike making it more sensitive to cross winds. A small price to pay for vastly more luggage capacity.

Fried up a little ham in teriyaki sauce, also adding some to reheated wild rice for dinner. 2022 can use all the luck it can get.

Not sure what's on the agenda today, but the weather looks pretty good for burning a slash pile.

Hope everyone enjoys the remainder of their New Years weekend.

Good morning! Texas has the lowest "Good Morning" temps after having the highest yesterday. 21˚F wind chill of 16˚F clear skies gusty North wind. This will be the first "Dry" run of our electrical grid supply systems. No snow or ice around here.

Mostly, Bird any snow or ice in North Texas?

Have a safe trip Kyle. Hope they find out the problem with your Mom and fix it. It was a little over a year ago my Mom was hospitalized for the same symptoms. She also had negative covid test but they called it a "False Negatives" and she was sent to a covid hospital here in Georgetown. (After 3 more negative test they said it was not covid.) They never did find out what caused the episode and she was hospitalized for a week. I think it was a diuretic medication error after interrogating her and she was getting fluid on her lungs.

Austin's "Polar Bear Plunge" should have been today instead of yesterday. Yesterday the air temps were in the upper 70s and water temp was 68˚-70˚F. It looked like a regular summer day there.

txdon said, "Mostly, Bird any snow or ice in North Texas?"

Nope, just a nice sunny day, but colder'n a well digger's . . . well, you know.

22°F and cloudy and windy this morning, going up to 30° today. 16mph winds puts the "feels like" temp at 9° ... and it definitely feels like that. I used one of those surface touch thermometers on my face when I came back in from feeding the chickens, and it wouldn't even register a temperature. So, I just went with freaking cold.

The stepson left here around 5am for his trip back to Texas.

Wife vetoed taking down the decorations today, so it looks like I get a studio day. I'm OK with that.

Good luck today David, best wishes for Sophie.
Welcome CaptSteve
Kyle, hope your Mom bounces back quickly.

Sure am glad I worked so hard being prepared for child care at church. Not one kid showed up.
I put the signs up on the door saying mandatory masking all the time and everyone seemed quite happy with that.
All of 15 people showed up, and we can't even blame it on New Year's Eve since most of us don't drink very much anyway. ;)
I had donated a new zoom camera for church use and it was turned on this morning. Crystal clear and got several compliments.
Probably higher rez than the one built into an old laptop we were using.

freaking cold is very cold...not here, for a few more hours. In the 50's out now, ready to plunge down tonight.
Can't you guys keep the cold "up there"? Texas is shivering, yes Don, I hope no more utility company fiascos.
Bird, stay warm.

no slips on black ice fellows.

off to have tea this afternoon with my ex wife. Always interesting. And I already told her no cookies. I don't want to throw them
in the trash...maybe I should be more specific. Nothing with white sugar added. If she wants to make me date nut cookies, well you bet.
I particularly like chewy oatmeal cookies. Just no sugar. Don has mentioned many, many alternatives. Jackfruit? something I'd never heard of.
Sounds like something growing near Alien's barn.

Good morning to all! Low was 10° last night, high today will only be 32°. Not a cloud in the sky, so I imagine the temps might go a little higher with all the sunshine. Only about an inch of snow remains on the ground... maybe that will disappear today.

The pellet stove is purring nicely. Need to load another bag before this evening. I didn't buy any pellets this year, had 30 bags left over. I was hoping to get through this winter with those leftovers.....

I used yesterday's cold, windy, and snowy day to make an excuse to loaf around.... nice while it lasted, but this morning have really bad low back pain (probably from laying on the sofa), really difficult to stand up straight. Gonna take a left over muscle relaxant and see if that helps....

David, studio is looking good! I like the color / pattern of the CT's. What's next on the list? Positive thoughts and prayers for Sophie.

Kyle, sorry to hear about your mom. I hope there is nothing serious going on and she gets over it quickly. Prayers sent.

RNG, did you try to zip past the road closure? I wonder if they would have chased you.... but, they could just wait for you to come back.....

Well, I mentioned here that the daughter and grandkids wouldn't be coming down for the holidays due to the kids being sick. They were both (kids) tested and were negative for covid, they were diagnosed with RSV. We were just told that my daughter tested positive for covid this morning at work. She is on her way home from the clinic to quarantine......
I wonder if the kids had a false negative when they were tested....

Now, I have a bunch to think about / worry......

On a lighter note, any of you guys that have / had RV's... did you ever use the "black streak remover" stuff? How did it work? Lot's of scrubbing needed? Spray on-- rinse off?

I think I am going to get supine again to see if I can get my back to relax...

Everyone have a great day!

Good afternoon all. Not quite tropical weather like some of you have seen, but still extremely mild weather here. It has been the warmest New Year ever over most of the UK, with Wales and Scotland peaking at 16C/61F.

Kyle, hope the hospital can soon make your mom more comfortable.

I had a surprise yesterday when I tried to use my driving licence as proof of who I was. It was declined because the thing had expired just one day before, at the year end. Hard to believe 10 years has passed since it was issued when I changed address. I guess I was lucky to find out so quickly, only drawback is that because I didn't re-apply before it expired, I am now not allowed to drive on public roads until the new one is issued, estimated at 2 weeks.

Ever come across an old packing case and wondered how much thought had gone into it's construction ? I found this document while doing an unrelated search, it shows some people took the matter very seriously back in 1930 usda archives. Almost as much thought as David has put into packing a caretaker home into a container :)

31F and snow flurries @ 13:00, high of 32F for the day.

Got some KP duty yesterday and helped with preparing the New Year's Day meal, chopping up the onions for the dumplings and peeling the potatoes. Was going to make a sheet cake but Woman announced that She thought that She still had enough ingredients to make up another batch of Layer Bar Cookies so that's the route we went.

Meal was very good, and I'm really looking forward to several more meals of sauerkraut and dumplings in the coming days.

We were unable to watch the Rose Bowl as it wasn't carried on any of the channels we get but was glad to see that the Buckeyes were able to pull out a win after getting clobbered initially.

Did get the two packets of lavender seeds put in a dampened paper towel and put inside the 'frig to cold-stratify. Even if there is only a 50% germination rate, we should still have over 100 viable seeds ... Hopefully with enough of that growing around the yard, it will keep the four-legged pests at bay.

Attempted to find the second grow light bulb so I could set up another area in the utility room in the basement but was unsuccessful. Probably wasted 45 minutes of my time on that. No idea at this point where it has gotten off to.

Need to move Shefflera down to basement today so it doesn't freeze, continue search for grow light bulb. Plus re-pot one of the plants (not sure what it is) that's growing in the square pots in the old aquarium stand. Possibly do the White Feather Hostas while I'm at it.

Some of the catnip, catmint, and coleus seeds have sprouted ... (y)

Did not get tube feeders filled and put back out yesterday so that's on the agenda here shortly.

Finally, I got an email with Season's Greetings late last night from a local friend who I hadn't spoken to in more than a month. Said he and his wife been laying low as they both came down with one of the variants. He didn't indicate which one, but I'm guessing probably Delta rather than Omni. Said his wife came through it ok (both are fully vaxxed) ... but that it really kicked his butt - which makes sense because he has some health issues (had been undergoing treatment for cancer) and he ended up being off work for around 3 weeks. Today was going to be his first day back at work.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable day and you all stay safe out there ... (y)
