It’s been raining lightly and hanging around freezing for several hours. So far it’s not freezing rain.

Good Morning!!!! 53F @ 7:30AM. Partly cloudy. High near 65F. Winds light and variable.

Sorry about your friend, Ron. Good that you had a chance to say goodbye. That's not always the case...

Nice you can click your heels together three times and be rid of all the snow, Don. I bet lots of folks in the Northeast wish they could do the same!

Think I picked up a bug during last week's travels, and started eating Cold-Eeze yesterday. Feeling icky, no full blown cold symptoms yet, but the stuff upsets my stomach so just eating lightly.

Which reminds me, hope you're feeling better, Farmer.

Got the two bad transmission parts packed yesterday, and took a picture of the latest fiasco. How in the world could someone look at that and think it would work, I'll never know. Since they obviously DON'T know, I took a minute to put a few labels on...

Got an order off for a new one yesterday, along with some smaller parts and grommets for the electrical system. Hopefully see it next week. Also spent some more time with a spoke wrench, and got a little more hop out of that one wheel. While I was at it, I put a dial indicator on the brake drums that were turned, and found 0.008" of runout. That's about half what they had, but I'm really surprised there was any. I guess their tooling wasn't that good. I think they should have left the wheel bearings in place and just held the axle in the lathe instead of removing the bearings and using the rough machined surfaces inside the hub on their mandrel. Then again, 0.008" isn't much, hopefully not enough to feel in the brake lever.

Got a little wiff of the Xmas spirit yesterday:

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!

Hay guys, got about 2 or 3 in and still snowing. Last night they said less than 1 in. Wife went in and told mom that she would help her with her bath in 15 min. mom looked worried and said, I guess I can get undressed in 15 min. Wife is rolling her eyes. Getting old ain't for sissies.

Ron sad to hear of your friend passing.

RNG, so at least we know what you are getting this year.

Have fun. Ed

Thought and prayers are with you and your family riptide, and also for you Ron.

RNG, I'm worried about .008", but what do I know? I can't imagine turning something and it being .008 egged.

BEF, more prayers to feel better soon and to get your hunger back.

I guess Farmer is very busy, missing his helper.

Drew, hope you are able to help your neighbor. Sounds like a rusty situation.

61°F and no rain.

Off to the Konaside of island for retired military guys annual Christmas party. Will combine a stop in Costco to exercise my credit card.

Had a good day up to the cottage. Unfortunately I’ll have to rebuild the French door frame so will take a bit longer. Jamb have tiny bit of rot where they screw to bottom sill. Not too bad but easier to fix now.

Be safe
Have a great day

Sorry for your loss Ron. As others have noted, it’s good you had the opportunity to say goodbye.

Wind just switched to NW and rain changed to sleet. Snow is coming back. I just hope not too much.

They extended our snow from 4pm to 9 pm, ground covered, drive is bare.

31F and mostly cloudy @ 12:30, bands of snow showing up on radar a bit to the west but still not seeing anything here.

Another late night. Worked up in the shop until around 03:00 ... managed to get the workbench cleaned up and organized, if not completely cleared off. After that I started on cleaning the workbench on the north side of my toolbox. Got the lower shelf cleaned out on that one ... so much dust from grinding ... really need to install some sliding bypass doors on the shelving to keep the dust down.

Probably should build a box for the squirrel cage blower as well and stick a filter on it.

Since chances for snow range from 40% to 70% daily, starting tomorrow through this coming Friday, probably should throw a tarp over the wood pile in front of the shop. High temps should be back in the 40's after that, so I don't have to cover all the wood at this point ... just enough to get me through a week's worth of snowy weather.

The pine and the sycamore is really dry at this point and starts easily ... the red oak could probably stand to season another year but will burn and makes some really nice coals.

More shop clean up on the menu for today.
