Good morning!!!!

07-23-2013 Night before last we had over three inches of rain in less than two hours. I had two utility poles-30 foot long laying beside a drainage ditch that I had dug 15 years ago. The overflow from the ditch that leads to the creek, washed one of the poles over 70 yards away. I still can't find the other one. Two bales of straw are also missing. When the ground is dry enough, it looks like I will be using the tractor and FEL.

JD - You didn't cut the whole apple tree down did you ? You just cut off the part that split and was shown in your pic right ?

The one that was split was a Gold Delicious and it has never been worth a darn so I cut it down. The bigger one in the background is a MacIntosh and is still standing...yes, I know the picture was confusing.

Evening everyone. I just booted up for the first time today. Went to town and bought a mower today. Time was very short when I got it home, but I did mow a little bit. Here is a few pictures. The second shot is of the spacers used to adjust the cutting height. Looks like 1/2", 1" and 2". It was really too close for how rough the ground was, but the rain was on the way, so I just did the best I could.

Or if you want to read about my trouble deciding, here is a thread I started a while back.

There wasn't time to pick everything, but I got a couple of cukes and a cantaloupe that was starting to split. The cantaloupe had turned yellow overnight. The melon growing on the fence keeps getting bigger everyday. Should I start a pool to see who can guess when it falls? I left the Habanero for Margie to deal with.

well for once I beat Roy to the alarm clock. Had so much fun yesterday looking at motorhomes and actually getting to put a toe in the ocean that I was fast asleep before the sun went down, and of course then up before it comes up...

put a deposit on a small motorhome subject to a test drive on Friday. That has me up early of course now with my new Woodalls/Good Sam's directory that came in yesterday. The largest bound volume I've ever seen, hard to even pick it up...must weigh five pounds. I think I'll get the cd also and just load it in the laptop.

off to the farm this morning to get caught up after many days of rain. Drying out now, hope to get some dirt moved, some mowing done, and some potatoes and tomatoes picked. After we gave some purple potatoes to the neighbors, we got them hooked. More! More!

oh, what in the world am I doing up this early, in retirement no less. :confused3:

Suppose to be high 80's today, a totally awesome day, the humidity "they" claim is over for a few.

I might get the tractors out when I get back home, nahh... I'll lay by the water instead. :)

If you have a Smartphone you can download the Good Sam App that will do the same. Or just search on their site. Good Sam. Another good site is RVparkreviews.com I have a POI file load into my Garmin. That list almost 15,000 campgrounds. Lots of good info on campgrounds out there for free. Google Maps is great. Select a location on map the search for campgrounds. Up pops lots of places.
No need to get the CD. Just go to Good Sam and search on the internet. My experience with the CD is it does not work well.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 56° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 70° with mostly sunny skies. Going to be a great day to work on my retaining wall project. But, it's off to the dentist instead.
Good Morning All.

0655. Partly cloudy, 70 with 95% humidity. Forecast high of 93 with 50% chance of thunder storms. I'm off to cut all the little persimmon bushes between the house and the graveyard so I can mow.

Good Morning! Hot and dry, the garden needs water every day or it starts dying. 78˚ getting to 100˚.

Yes, I have seen the new study out about red wine being detrimental to heart disease.

Red wine compound resveratrol may negate health benefits of exercise - CBS News

"We were surprised to find that resveratrol supplementation in aged men blunts the positive effects of exercise training on cardiovascular health...in part because our results contradict findings in animal studies," lead researcher Ylva Hellsten, a professor with the University of Copenhagen in Denmark"

Several things to consider:

1. Red wine was not used in the experiment, a 250mg resveratrol supplement (equivalent to 700 bottles of red wine) was used. a liter of red wine has between 1 and 14 mg of resveratrol. The Study was done only on men over 65.

2. The American Heat Assoc. has always maintained that they are no studies that show red wine improves cardiac health. "No direct comparison trials have been done to determine the specific effect of wine or other alcohol on the risk of developing heart disease or stroke."

So what does this all mean. Don't take the 250mg supplement resveratrol for cardiac health (unless you are an animal - there have been studies on animals) and don't drink red wine for heart health.

Had to go a TV spot this morning early and it was actually below 70 this morning, felt great! Temps are trending lower for a few days, thank goodness. I like warm to hot weather, but that oppressive stuff was getting old.
Have a good all.

Today is supposed to be hot, but woke up to a gusty breeze. The forecast says light wind from the south, but this is from the east and the local airport says gusts to 25 mph. I think a small front moved down from Oklahoma and it's causing unexpected weather. We have a 20% chance of showers tonight, but I won't hold my breath. I just hope that the wind dies down and I can water my yard a bit. It looks great and I want it to stay that way. The forecast is for 97 F here today and it's 74 F at 7 AM. The good thing is that the 100 degree days have been taken out of this week's forecast. Woohoo!

good morning its another cool one in Wisconsin 57 with a chance of showers this afternoon and high of 74.

Jim, I wish could send some of my rain your way. We had a two or three day break, but now it is back to raining everyday. I had turned the soaker hoses back on for the garden. Yesterday I saw water soaked hay around every plant, so I turned them back off.
