Yes, the longer they are on the vine, the hotter they can get. I also find my peppers are hotter, in years that their growing temps are hotter. You can almost pick a Cayenne at any time, but I like to let them get at least 1.5-2 inches in length. They can actually be very good for the heart. I don't find them to be a super hot pepper, although they are not mild. The only colors that I have seen are green, turning red before they go to seed.

Larro: That melon was ripe to the rind on one side. Can you compare the flavor to something to give us a clue how it tastes? I cut and sliced my big ****** melon this morning and it wouldn't fit in a single gallon size bag. I had to use two bags to hold it all. I had some for lunch; tastes like honey with a crunch.:D

Jim, it was a little sweeter than a regular cantaloupe. There was a little fruity or spicy taste to it as well. There isn't as much meat to one as yours. You saw how thin the slice was. I looked at some pictures online, and the ones they were cutting had a lot more green in the rind than mine. I'm just hoping the rain will let them get ripe before they rot.

It's actually some type of plastic and cracking isn't an uncommon problem with the hoods (either through damage or age). Hoods are available, if I want to replace it...

As far as our heat wave...yeah, we do get 90's weather in VT...just not a common occurrence.

Wonder how many tubes of the plastic weld I would need to repair my hood?? I took the picture of the duct tape with the can of green paint to show as a joke.

I'm surprised to see these hoods crack apart like that. Is it a common occurrence?

I seem to recall seeing green duct tape in WallyWorld.

Not overly common, but it does happen.

My local dealer's service department uses an adhesive called Q-Bond. I've never heard of it, but the service guys say it works quite well.

Woke up early this morning...about 0300. Of course, I was in bed by about 1830-1900 last night....had a very tough day.

It's 59 right now and light rain. The high is going to be 75 with rain (100% probability).

I had mowed about half the lawn on Sunday, then my wife's daughter, et al, came to visit and (if you read my post yesterday), we went to lunch and visited. Reckon I should have mowed when I got home on Monday...guess it'll be a few days before I can mow now.

low seventies out now, in rain, going to mid eighties later today, with the unexpected rain clearing out.
some areas got several inches, so when it gets light out will look at my flower pot/rain gauge on the back deck to see how we did.
Temps dropping this week, going into low sixties at night. Will be nice to open a window finally.

off to NJ today, to look at motorhomes and hopefully take a walk on the beach, which is only about twenty minutes from the rv dealership, in Mantalocking NJ, outside of Brielle. Haven't put my feet in sand in a while so hopefully we will have a fun day.
As I hope all of yours are.

Coffee is brewing. 67° with some clouds this morning. Heading to 77° with chance of thunderstorms. Worked on retaining wall garden. Got about 10 feet of the 90' done. Even though it was not hot yesterday. Humidity was high and cause me to sweat so much I could not see through my glasses. Going to take day off and got to my mother house and clean a few thing up.
Drew, good news. Goof luck on the RV search.
Good Morning All.

Hot and humid, just summertime on Delmarva. Drew, have fun!
Bill, if John Deere would spend an extra nickle on their overpriced tractors for urethane instead of ABS or whatever you wouldn't see so many cracked hoods! :D Seriously though, you almost can't find a used JD for sale that doesn't have anything from a crack to massive chunks missing.

I would much rather have a steel hood which would have dented rather than broken...the salesguy who sold me my tractor said steel retained underhood heat more than the plastic ones do and were prone to cracking from vibration and were heavier. A replacement hood is about $285 from Ebay. What a ripoff.

I simply don't know why they didn't use urethane, my old Wizard garden tractor has that and you can lean on it, run into stuff and it just pops back into shape.

Just a late entry was up early this morning, but we had a bit of a rain storm and it washed into the yard and also into the cellar. So I spent a few hours cleaning up the dirt road and plowing ditches on the side to keep the rain water moving down the hill. One of those cases where there is a discontinued road behind us and the liberal court system gave permission for people to build on a discontinued roadway. They call it a private driveway entry. Now neither the town or the people will pay to have ditches and culverts drains put into the road to keep the water out of our yard and house.

I went up the hill this morning and used my plow on the road to dig a ditch across the road way to divert the water away from our house side. I am sure I will hear about this is a day or two from the town and neighbor.

The road was closed over 100 years ago and returned to the abuters, but some how the planning board felt it was okay to have a private driveway off from the discontinued road and have road frontage for the property on a different roadway (problem is there is a pond between the roadway and the house so they could not build a driveway to the road.

So that is my spout for the day.........sorry for the lengthy Good Morning!

74 degrees here and 100% humidity, this area just got an intense downfall of rain, over an inch in 5 minutes...I had just finished cutting down this 25 year old dwarf apple tree, the fruit crop for apples is so heavy this year the tree SPLIT down the middle because of the weight of the fruit...such a contrast to last year's apple crop that was almost zero because of the frost that destroyed most of it.
