Another very productive day. Grand kids and I got the 2 fence lines cleaned and replaced 12 t-post and removed 500' of rusted out fence. Replaced two tongue and groove boards on rear of barn. Removed couple old 8' florescent fixtures. I am tired. The kids are too. I can rest tomorrow.
I did not get any tractor or golf cart seat time. 🤠 Never thought I would let someone else do the driving.

Ron, not sure if you're replacing your 8' fluorescent fixtures but, I am replacing 9 of mine in shop with these.

EnviroLite 8 ft. 4-Light White Industrial LED White Strip Light with T8 LED 5K Tubes-ST74T185 - The Home Depot

My existing fixtures are 8' two tube T12 96 watts. The hang on long chains but, are still about 16' above the floor. Real PIA to stab 8' tubes one handed as have to use other hand to stabilize the fixture. Don't care much for being on ladder that high either.

Waiting for cooler weather to start installation. The LED fixtures look to be brighter than the fluorescent units. May rent a man lift for this.

30 pieces of Ohia trim crafted, glued and bradded in place. Tomorrow some filling and sanding and the end of this project is in sight.

A note on the Ohia for anyone curious. A local tree, known for being one of the very first things to start growing in lava. Lots of lore, especially about the flower, Lehua . The wood itself is quite hard. Near impossible to nail when dried without drilling a pilot hole. Can't begin to count how many small bits I've broken in the course of my cabinet builds, some number of which broke below the surface so are still there. As my current trim is only about 1/4" thick, my 18v Ryobi stapler drove the trim brads superbly and without splitting. I was concerned that the wood being so dry (more than 10 years old) that it would split and I'd have to drill.
Sadly, our Ohia is under attack for last few years. Something called Ohia sudden death with maybe some sort of fungus/viral disease. State forbids transportation between areas. I'm fortunate in that i'm still using supply I got when building the house, all rough sawn 1 1/2+ with natural edges. A bit of work getting it into uniform dimensional pieces, including planing.

Perhaps my more productive, more important accomplishment today was mowing the dogs area. They really don't like doing it their business in tall grass. :)

Good evening all. 72F at the start, partly cloudy, calm wind. high temp was 90F and moderate wind, not bad for August! Checked on my new glasses, and found out they would be done this morning. Bike ride was next, followed by lunch, nap and a trip to Sherman for printer ink, fix rubbing on bike, new glasses, and dinner at Red Lobster :licking:

Little League championships going on in Williamsport. North State Little League team, representing SouthEast U.S. from just West of me in Greenville NC won yesterday with three
pitchers throwing a perfect game. Pretty remarkable since there aren't any bad teams in the championship. Greenville/North State must have a very good pitching coach.
I played Little League for one year. Dropped half the balls that came my way. Thankfully switched to soccer and enjoyed being a fullback in that.

Finished my coffee, have the itch to get going before it gets so hot. Just starting to get light out. The garage door goes up and the cool of the garage is replaced with
a wall of warm wet air. Aahhhh. So much moisture in the air everything just drips. Including me.

Poured first cup of coffee. 61° cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 81° with mix of sun and clouds. With rain we got this week lawn is growing again. Cutting is on the list for today.
rlgustafson, replacing the 8' with eight 4' fixtures. They came from Sam's Club. Barn is much brighter. Ceiling is 10' in barn.
Good Morning All.

Good morning all, 68 this morning going to 88 and sunny. Not sure what I will get into today, time will tell.

Daugen, Your welds look better than my first and improving. Bring the stinger and a rod in when you come in today and practice making little circles with it by the AC. Get your hands used to the motion without the worry about the arc or the heat and water dripping in your eyes. Just a thought.

Ron, I hear grand kids tend to make us see things different.

Have a great day. Ed

Roy is sleeping in, good.

You better believe I sleep in on weekends!

So, today:
2017-08-19, 0705

65 right now...high about 80 and clear.
Heading out for a haircut in an hour or so, then pick up a patio door we had re-screened. After yesterday's rain, it'll be hours before it's dry enough to mow...so, I reckon I'll putter about until it's dry enough.

Good morning all. Managed to get outside during a dry spell and tap a few more staples into fence posts. Had to call it a day before it was finished though as my right arm is playing up again.

Last night we watched Hacksaw Ridge. I had seen the opening battle sceen before, but did not know the background to the story. Only when it ended did I realize it was based on the true story of a conscientious object called Desmond Doss. What an incredibly kind and courageous person he was.

Ron, I thought you were going to take a rest today ? Ease up a little as your starting to make me feel guilty at how little I got done in comparison

Sodamo, interesting to hear about your Ohia lava trees. I also had trouble with some hard wood yesterday, with 2 screws shearing off before I could drive them fully home. My fault for trying to be too quick, piloting and then going straight in with a stainless screw. Job then took way longer than if I'd taken the few extra seconds to pre-form the thread with a tougher screw first. :mur:

Drew, careful, welding is incredibly addictive, you could be soon breaking things just to have the pleasure of melting them back together :)
