Eric, Allow me to apologize for subjecting the world to this tawdry affair that passes for a democratic process!

   / Good morning!!!! #121,282
good morning all
40 degrees going up to 55 on Election Day, start of warming trend with highs near 70 for next week.
Sounds like nice weather to me.

have been pondering what time to walk over to polling spot down the street. Right at opening is usually too busy because there will always
be folks who want to be first in line, or have to get to work. I have to pick up a few items at the supermarket this morning, think I will go after that.
Will get my gas cans filled on way back. If I still had my truck and could put gas cans in back, I'd take the cans to VA on Thanksgiving and fill them up there but
don't like gas cans in enclosed spaces, there's always a smell. There is only one gas station in my little town and their prices are very high, 3.29 for premium so I just drove away.
Will go across the river to Lambertville NJ to Heath's service station, which has been there since I was a child, and where I bought my first gas. Have known the owner, and his father, all my life.
That's worth driving a couple miles for...

good visit to cardiologist yesterday, no issues and no surprises. He wants me to get more exercise, which I agree with.
Last big appt is this afternoon to oncologist. Lots of questions for him. Nice that all docs are wired into same data system
so I don't have to fill out the questionnaires with every new appointment.

struck out trying to give away clothes yesterday. Place everyone told me was first choice only took food. Then drop off place at county seat had big sign in window, not accepting any further donations. Covid is making it extra hard on the needy in our communities. I was told of one church that might be taking clothes, will call them today. Otherwise putting bags back in basement to wait until normal places open up again.

Ted, I'm envious of your local pricing and availability. Surprising how there can be such regional differences, as this area is no boondocks, and everyone has small power equipment that runs better on E0. Even my Audi dealer recommended it for my car.

Poured first cup of coffee. 32° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 59° with sunny skies. Did a walk around yard yesterday. No branches on ground. large amount of fallen leaves were blown into woods and field. Will get at that later this week when temperatures will be warmer. Will blow some of the leaves out away from buildings today. ENT Dr visit this afternoon. Hope they come up with a plan to stop the constant noise in my right ear.

Drew, hope you can get in and vote without a long line.

Buppies, melted candles can be melted again to make new ones. Glad that was only loss.

Eric, glad someone is getting some enjoyment from all the @#$!%&^* going on over here.

Riptides, I would put the angled pieces at bottom. So that siding is level with ceiling. Maybe fill angle in with sheet aluminum before putting starter strip in.

Everyone stay healthy and safe.

Good Morning All.

36 outside this AM. Heading to lower 60's. Wind seems to have gone. Spent most of the night listening to a hoot owl outside my window. It will be a long day.

On the siding front it was too windy and cold to work out there yesterday. I managed to get a friend over to shoot the house, and we were both looking at the front when we both said at the same time "look below the eaves". Duh. The last siding piece is customized quite nicely. Grrr.

15 years and I never noticed. So that got me a better visual on the vinyl and decking in my mind. No way I am going to deal with a gap like that. So I think I can break the job into two parts using the door as the divider. I'll rerun the starter strip, or make use of a J Channel which will allow me to cut the vinyl to the proper "angle". Since it is a covered porch I can get away with using the J Channel with a few weep holes. I will have to see how that looks, and if it passes the wife test. My back porch uses the J channel and it has held up well. In any case I need to get this done by the end of the week.

Hope all have a great day. Be safe.

Good Morning! 37˚F heading to the mid 70s, clear skies no wind.
It's predicted to be 60˚ by 9:00 AM when we start the FireWise cedar trimming.
I heard Kyle's county has enacted it's burn ban again after hearing grass fires every day on the phone pager.

Found out my Fish is an Angler Fish. They actually do have a light fin that comes out of their head.

Good Morning
It’s already 42 here and the wind I has let up considerably. Yesterday the windsock was straight out like it was starched.
Things went well at the doctor yesterday, but when I got home, we were on generator power.

Still haven’t gotten to building the manure bin, today I’m helping a friend install a ground water heat pump.

Agreed that Avgas isn’t seasonally blended, but I have never had a problem starting anything in the winter. I used to have a CJ5 with a plow that would sometimes sit for multiple years, but would always start right up when asked to. It helps that I have always had easy access to Avgas as well.

Zoom in on the picture and you can see the windsock sticking straight out.

28F clearing sky mid 30's for high lot less of the gusty winds.

Outside chores done E muffin time. :licking:

Well I operated on leave blower than has lawn shop tech...heck of nice guy!!!...check it out,he said "nurse it easy try finish out leaf blowing season, not worth fix 12 year blower at today labor rates and parts"...New Husqvarna 580BTS II $560.oo hmmm better than using old Armstrong rake and tarp.

Plans for today...Outside plans cancel because of weather so it's inside puttering. :confused3:

Enjoy the day all.

I woke up to a high wind warning. It was blowing all night. Sometimes if the wind blows just right all the leaves will magically disappear. No such luck today.:( Piles of leaves all around. Still a lot of leaves up in the trees.

I heard a Doctor on the radio say that it was beneficial to our well being to expose ourselves to some bright sunshine ( not that kind of expose you clowns) so maybe I will try to get some outside exercise this morning.

Chris

Hope you have good thick shrubs and privacy fences. ;)

38 and sunny with ice in the bird baths again. Looking for 62.

We'll go vote around 10am. I used to get there when they opened at 7, but now that I'm retired, always hate to go places and take up a space that people in a hurry heading to work need. Our county sent an email that said IF you haven't already voted, best times are 10 to noon, and 2 to 4pm.

Rip, glad you got your siding figured out. Last night on the internet, I just stumbled on a vinyl siding that looks like cedar shakes...several styles, in 5ft lengths...pix looks real good...I might have spent 45 minutes checking it out. Don't know why I've never heard of it. I have a project where some might work...so I plan to look at some in person. I've never worked with vinyl.

Buppies, sorry about that $8K deer ding :).

Ron, I've never seen a black squirrel. Interesting.

Had to take a return package to the UPS store yesterday. Across the highway was a Best Buy...haven't been inside one in a couple of years...big screen TVs stacked up everywhere in the aisles...but I only wanted to talk with the repair folks...bought a Samsung range/oven 4 years ago from them, and it's acting flaky...wanted to see how much a house call would cost, plus see if they'd fix a big sub-woofer if I brought it in, since they promote their Geek squad so much. Nope, unless you have a service agreement, won't talk to you. I understand their policy, but told the guy that this pretty much ends our relationship...they are offering the same level of service I'd get just buying it online. Wish Circuit City was still around. Haven't previously needed these kind of things fixed, so will be hunting from scratch for a good repair business. I'll probably take one more crack at diagnosing it myself, but seems beyond my skills.

We treated ourselves to sharing an order of fries at 5 Guys afterwards and finished our stops in town.

Good Morning!!!! 62F @ 4:30AM. Sunny. High around 80F. Winds light and variable.
More mild weather to the end of the week, but we go from 10-15 degrees above to 10-15 degrees below normal Thursday night, with a chance of rain and even snow in higher elevations. NWS says we're back in Extreme Drought conditions again, so we really need the rain.

Last year when I was running off the Honda generator during the power outages, I was paying $6.50 a gallon for E0, and there was only one place in town that sold it. That is if you don't count the Kubota/Stihl dealer selling the quart cans for several dollars each. I haven't purchased any this year, but it's time to take what remains of last year's stash and start burning it off in the Vanagon. Should probably siphon out what I put in the fire truck, too, but I'll wait for a little more rain since fires are still being started in the dry brush.

Glad you've got a plan now, Mike, and hope the wife approves.

Saw an ad from T-Mobile for their Home Internet service yesterday, and their website said it was available at my address. That was a bit of a surprise since Verizon's website told me that their LTE service was not. T-Mobile's offer has no contract, and no fees if cancelled anytime in the first 20 days, so I signed up. Worst case, it'll cost me a few dollars to ship the modem back to them. But if it works, I'll have faster service at half the cost, but one that is more vulnerable to interruption in case of a wildfire. So for a while, at least, I'll keep my satellite plan, then think about cutting down the size of the data cap to save some money. But that's counting chickens before they hatch.

Got the airbox and test sample painted yesterday, and under the LED light in the garage, the match on the test panel looks pretty close. If it's still good in today's sunshine, I'll order what I need to do the fairing and get busy with the repairs.

Ron, prayers for your son, and for your hearing.

Drew, glad your Dr. visit went well.

I have always used Avgas in seasonal equipment, it has an unlimited shelf life. It’s around $5 a gallon now. There is no road tax on it, so they won’t pump it into a car, but most, but not all airports will fill cans. It does contain lead, so it can’t be run in an engine with a catalytic converter, like the Honda 7kw inverter generator, but other than that there are no drawbacks that I have discovered.

I concur. And nice lawn you have there.

   / Good morning!!!! #121,296
Quite a wind. Beautiful lawn. Do you have the windsock for any kind of aircraft?

No airplanes in a long time, trees have grown, and I don’t want to cut them. I will occasionally come and go in a helicopter, but I don’t keep anything here any more.

Drew, glad your Dr. visit went well.

I concur. And nice lawn you have there.

Thanks. I bought a couple of Progressive 15-1/2’ pull behind mowers from a local sod farm that shut down. I got the two mowers and over a skid of parts for them at a price I couldn’t pass up. Sold one of them, kept the other and the parts. It does a really nice job. Doesn’t turn on a dime, but cuts great.

Paul/Popgadget, are you a pilot? I saw that lawn and thought a Cessna would love it...

successful trip downtown, except Giant did not have one checker at all, had to use self checkout, where they had an overseer, who apparently didn't want to check out groceries.
I asked where are your checkers at 7:45am? Oh, she never showed up. One checker and no backup? Doesn't sound well run to me...

nice trip over to NJ to get gas, 30 cents cheaper than PA, met both elderly father and son owners who both greeted me warmly, "heard you were coming back, great to see you".
So now I have gasoline and propane for my generator, and of course this morning got email from shipper, shipped Oct 22 from Reno NV, not arrived in NJ (??) and now not expected until
next Monday the 9th. More crummy service, likely blamed on Covid.

Looked over at polling place from road going by, wow, must have been 100+ people in line snaking around large building.
Sure going to wait a few hours before I make my way over there.

Good morning. It's 43° and clear this morning with a predicted high of 77° this afternoon. Needing some rain but .. not much in long term forecast.

Great weather for Election Day .. but I'm glad I voted early

Saw this interesting PC Magazine article about Elon Musk's Starlink Satellites. They've got better satellite coverage in the northern part of the country but .. as Spacex continues to launch satellites .. they're improving coverage of the south as well. They're getting in the range of 100Mbps down loads initially and that's predicted to improve .. to near 1Gbps .. as they launch more satellites. We feel lucky to get 10-12Mbps here at the ranch.

You can go here and sign up for future notifications. I'm hoping for a chance to be a beta tester.

We get our non-ethanol contaminated gasoline at Buc-ees in Katy. The last we bought was about $2.65.

Pushed over a couple of deed trees yesterday and moved them to area besides burn pile. I'll take chain saw out, to cut them into 2-3 sections, then stack them onto the burn pile.

Then .. more outside window washing today.

Hope everyone has a peaceful Election Day.

Prayers for all.

Yesterday I watched the wind blow a steady stream of leaves down the driveway and the south across the road. Who knows where they ended up. Of course there was a steady stream of leaves blowing out of the woods behind the house.

I did get out for some sunshine. If it was supposed to reset my body clock so I could sleep until dawn that didn't work yet.

I mean to go see how long the voting line down at the church is even though I already sent in my vote. Sounds like there will be lines.

Chris
