Had spurt of ambition so I trim under all spruce trees also front field and mow it should be good until 1st of Sept.
Not much plan for this evening after dinner...bbq chicken and corn on the cob, might need beach towel for bib...just put my feet up while setting on the deck.

Enjoy the evening all.

Sitting on the deck after grilled burgers and corn on the cob, realizing how much the sun angle has changed in the last 4-5 weeks. Long days are mostly behind us now. I hope fall and winter are smoother this year than last.

It was honestly not a pleasant thing to do because I am not wired this way, but last night I got a long email from my realtor, who got a long email from my farm buyer's realtor, with a page of questions
posed by buyer. Well...what goes around comes around. On four separate occasions while I lay in a hospital bed they beat me down on price for ridiculous reasons. I was deeply offended by these folks, and after owning and selling six houses prior to this, had never experienced this scorched earth policy. So in very clear but not nasty terms, I told them I would have been glad to help the buyers
if they had just treated me fairly. And that life was not all about taking, plus the lowest price rarely offered good value. So I declined to help them at all and told realtor to not provide contact information. Some of the questions were stupid...who provides propane when name of company was right on tank. And some, for an engineer... were ignorant, as in where does the output from my garden solar charger go, since it goes into the ground and they don't know where it came out. Really? Those are the ground/earth wires...bare wires of course. Output wires went through insulated donut in shed wall and out to electric fence.

I am quite sure from their selfish perspective they just think I'm a grumpy old man. So be it. It was never "just business" like the Mafia hit men say before they shoot you in the head... Those holes in my wallet hurt and I have a good memory. Onward, but at least I got to vent my unhappiness and disappointment in these people.
As I have said here before, I have lived my life for the last twenty years by a simple motto...every day is an opportunity for kindness. They really missed out.

Hope all of you have a good start to the week.

Drew, good for you. I was very frustrated at how they took advantage of you.....I tried but wasn't very good at masking my displeasure, because of your condition. I didn't want to get you too "riled up". They took your shirt, your coat, your hospitality, and were very unaccommodating. I read your above statement to my wife (after telling her of your struggles with it), and she said good for you.....and that you wrote it up very well for us.

64 high of 84 stayed cloudy all day yesterday until late afternoon

Bear was walking up sidewalk last evening when I went to get work papers out of truck. He went one way me the other

Prayers for all

Prayers for Ron, Jay and wife, Kyles daughter, Drew, riptides

Thank you all for the prayers. My daughter played her guitar and sang accompaniment in church again Sunday. I now know why the good Lord bought a guitar for her. I am blessed, and so is she with talent. She's still a little on the shy side, but getting better each time.

63 and foggy earlier, going to 84 and sunny...I feel like Christmas morning, too...getting some sunshine.

Ron, a very sad thing digging a place for Muffin...glad you can see from your house...I have the same set-up here.

Buppies, glad you are unBearable today :). I guess we have separate bears...here's some from a train cam...I pulled the pic yesterday...

That freeloading mama bear is teaching all her cubs how to loot and steal. Can't you do anything to keep them away? I was telling the wife, we sure couldn't have chickens up north, because I'd have to be SSS'ing bears every time they got near the coop.

I wish it would cool down, down here. A friend is in Phoenix area, said 115F today. OUCH!

Ron, thinking about you and prayers. I have used a post hole digger to bury my inlaws last few kitty cats. Ground here is hard clay, with some small to potato size rocks. When dry, you have to "chip" at it.

RNG, hoping you and I both get some good rain. I believe Rick may have got some this morning.

Kekoa wants you to hurry so y'all can play. Just be careful, my friend's dog had followed him on his tractor, unbeknownst to him, and he backed up and ran over his old dog. His driveway was 1/2 mile long and he couldn't believe his old dog had followed him that far.

Good evening all. 71F for the start, overcast, calm wind, 0.05 in rain gauge. Light wind today, humidity did not drop much and sky became mostly clear. High temp was 97F, feels like 102F, more sun than forecast, rain chance late in day but fell apart before it got here. Walk with wife, then mowing, trash guy has changed route again and missed him with one bag of grass. Did get nap in.
Covid update: Cooke unchanged, Montague unchanged, Grayson 1272 confirmed cases, 92 active cases.
David was only trying to razz you.
Roy hope you got more rain than I did.

Well, another tough day with the fence unroller project.... no distractions, just a finicky MIG welder.... wire feed kept getting stuck. Checked and double checked just about everything to no avail....

Then my son came home. I told him what was going on with it... he asked if I changed the tip.... no.... in less than 5 minutes it was working great! He finished the last 2 welds for me. I called it quits for the day....

All that is left to do is drill 5 holes, install 5 bolts. I cannot wait.... what I thought would be a simple, fun project, has become very irritating.....

Thanks Kyle. I don’t like him around the tractor. Sometimes he will bark at the flail so I have to stop and shoo him away. Doesn’t hurt to be attentive though.

"I believe Rick may have got some this morning."

Not a drop Kyle. It was all way east of us. Patricia drove, in hard rain this morning, from our Richmond house to her office in the Galleria. The humidity was down a bit though.

65F and partly cloudy @ 23:30, high hit 79F.

Filled in around catch basin first thing, then collected more debris from weeding west bed and carted it up to the compost pile. Put box blade back on, on way up.

Grabbed a bucketload of screened soil on the way back down, dumped that over by west planting bed and started collecting more debris.

Shortly after that it started to rain. The Woman said "I think we're only going to get a few sprinkles." ... that wasn't how it turned out though ... I ran what I had in the bucket up to the compost pile and started to cover it ... at that point the rain started coming down pretty good.

With outdoor activities curtailed, she decided to do a quick grocery run to get some fresh bread for tunafish salad sandwiches and left me to hard boil the eggs while she was gone.

Got that done and by that time the rain had stopped so I ran over to the pole barn and grabbed 100' tape to get a measurement for the retaining wall on the east side of the house.

We ended up getting a decent amount of rain ... fortunately the ground was still dry enough that it soaked in pretty quickly. Sun came back out and I think I could hear the grass growing:

IMG_4040 copy.jpg

I went back up to the wood/compost lot and moved some sycamore rounds from out in front of a large pile of previously screened soil and onto the burn pile and took another bucketload of composted soil down to the west planting bed and pulled a couple of t-posts she had been using to tie up some flowers we no longer have (thankfully)

Then we ended up getting the oak tree in front of the garage taken down, all limbs cut off and taken up to the burn pile and the trunk moved up to the wood pile:

IMG_1388 copy.jpg

Still need to trim the rhododendron off the power lines, will do that tomorrow ... when it's a little drier ...

After that I got out the handheld broadcast spreader and the grass seed and hit around the catch basin, covered it with straw, and watered it in with three watering cans worth of juice.

Have enough measurements at this point I can get a pretty good idea of how much wall block and cap I'm going to need ... still quite a bit.

Still need to run the garbage up to the road and stick it in the can and close up the garage for the night.

Hope everyone had a great day ...

Lost my dog when I was young in a farm accident, putting in hay, he ran under the hay truck and accidentally got ran over. I had pleaded and cried as a child to get it as a puppy.

RS-My wife bakes the cookies-would not be too good if I baked them, no patience.

Exact opposite of the situation here: she was baking them ... and would get distracted (no patience ... :D) and the cookies would end up overcooked/hard and dry.

So I started ... necessity and all ...

Glad you got rain, we are probably around 8 inches in the last two weeks.

Yikes, hope you dry out ... and thanks ...

Seems we are up to three foxes now, hear them all "screaming" to each other last night

Yup ... they can be a little noisy.

60 right now...how, again, in the mid 70's.

We're scheduled for a surveillance (AS 9100...aerospace version of ISO 9000) next week, but the registrar called yesterday to request doing the audit this week. That's going to make things difficult since some of the expected auditees are on vacation.
We'll do what we can do...that's about all we can do...

Doctor's appointment this afternoon...just a follow up after a change in BP meds
