The writer on the article had a bias going on IMO.

One chart that showed the rate of new cases doubled every 2-3 days is the most important one. He tried to use the cases per millions....which has no value at this point in preventing the spread. Bogus. There are too many outliers to base assumptions on stuff. Especially about having a 1-5% chance of getting the disease in an encounter. Which may be somewhat true or not. Also, the countries that are considered to be the best at flattening the curve of new cases, HAD THE HARSHEST/ MOST STRICT rules about sheltering in place (S. Korea, Japan, China). I saw video of the Chinese police beating a man who ventured out.

Watch MedCram on youtube. Go back and start watching his videos from when he first started vlogging on Covid.

Still, in my somewhat learned position, I still believe that an infected person coughing and sneezing disperses micro droplets in the air that can easily exceed 6 feet. They don't disperse quickly. I'll say it again, Think of Fog. Fog is microdroplets. It takes it a while to disperse...

Last week, when I went to work, I walked in with my N95 mask on. I take it off, once I'm by myself in my shop. My shop has it's own HVAC system, not totally infallible but a step in the right direction.

One young smartypants engineer promptly told me "I don't know why you're wearing that, it won't do you any good"...I replied, "You just told me how little you know about it."

For my family, even though I'm the oldest, I'm the only one going anywhere. I put on an N95 mask, I carry and use clorox wipes to touch or pickup things, wipe my cart, wipe my hands continuously with them. Do I care about people staring at me? Oh heck No. I tell them it's the new fashion and I'm the leader of it in our area.

Drew, I'm glad you live at the end of a lane, but if you want to assure your exclusivity, you need to not let anyone in, nor be near anyone. I feel the people that live rurally have a better chance if precautions are taken.

I'm not telling anyone what to do. But look at the news from Italy today. 793 deaths just yesterday. Largest 1 day death toll. They are hauling coffins to cemeteries in Army trucks for mass burial. Loved ones are not getting to say last goodbyes in either direction. No access from loved ones in the sick areas. They are dying so fast, the hospitals have warehouse rooms to put the bodies in coffins waiting for the Army to pick up.

Nice tractor Thomas. Glad the SO is happy with it.

Was working on cedar trees myself today. Created another burn pile. LOL.

Hoping for rain so I can torch the old one.

Be safe. Have a good night and good health to you.

Congrats Thomas!

My college son can get his stuff from the dorm starting the 31st, he had to schedule a 2 hr block, on 2nd. I’m afraid by then we won’t be able to travel out of state. Definitely not flying.
My wife ventures out too much. Always needs something from a store.
Got my other son moved, no close interaction with others. Did stop in a furniture store and he ordered a couch and table. Kept my distance from people, wiped after getting back to truck.
I did take an N95 but did not wear it, found some in garage from my last drywall project.

Picked up food at drivethru on way home. Fries were aweful, most were trashed.
Also stopped and picked up seed potatoes, no kennibeck, so got Pontiac.

Mixed up and sprayed some roundup. Henbit is bad.
Neighbor mowed, little early but some areas it’s growing.
My BIL been having fever, his dr said sinus infection (hope that’s all) my sister has sore throat. I told dad they need to stay away from him. Dads VA visit this week was cancelled.

Dad has plenty of food, people from church been bringing him stuff. Again I worry about exposure. Monday he turns 96.

Stay safe.

Kyle that one is too much like a motorcycle and no pedals.

Jim what is a popular brand and what features are most desirable. I like the idea of torque sensing and assist. Does the ebike need a license as a motorized vehicle?

Here's a copy of a note I wrote to a friend who asked a similar question.

There are 3 types of electric assist
1. Front wheel (hub) drive
2. Mid-drive (motor down near the peddles)
3. Rear hub drive. Of these there are a few variations.

Front hub drive; run away as fast as you can.

Mid-drive are becoming more of the norm these days as they have a low centre of gravity and more stable. The battery is usually incorporated into the down tube so they look more like an ordinary bike. The power is usually controlled by a torque sensor so you have to peddle to get power.

Rear hub-drive The batteries are usually placed up higher, on the rear carrier. A lot have a throttle which allows you to ride without peddling.

Wheel sizes are, in inches 20, 26, 27.5 and 29
20 inch is too small and can be unstable on anything but sealed roads. But if you are looking for something to just duck down to the shops for a few groceries it would be OK
.
You need to visit every well established bikeshop in Hamilton and try out all the bikes they have. There are a few who bring in a container of cheap Chinese bikes and are not around when something fails. There was a bloke out Tamahere way who was convicted just the other week for flogging off cheap Chinese bikes with no front brakes.

The bike shop should fit the bike to you. Not leaning too far forward on your arms as your wrists will ache after a while. The tip of your toes should only just touch the ground when stopped. Seating should be soft but not too soft. The two lowest points of your pelvis should sit squarely in the centre of the seat. If you don't have enough built-in padding down there you can get padded under shorts to help.

Thudbuster, is a seat suspension system which helps soften the bumps from the rear wheel. Not cheap. .

Street tyres are OK but if you are going to do, say the river trail, larger knobly tyres are better. You can run them softer to absorb some of the bumps.
Hydraulic disk brakes are a must

Lock and helmet.

That covers some of the basics. ...............................

Here power is limited to 300w and no licence/registration is required. Over there the bureaucrats got in and there are Class 1 -2 and 3 categories. I think some of the restrictions are 20MPH, 28MPH and throttle.
PM me if you want any more info

Weird weather here today... was supposed to be sunny, warm around 62. It has been cloudy since around 10 this morning, a few showers this afternoon, and a pic of the latest.... getting cold, temp dropped from 52 to 42 in 15 minutes.

Purpose of bike riding can be exercise, can be pleasure. It's more pleasurable to get a little boost going up a steep hill. Not for me, for my wife.:D
Jim how do you keep the batteries charged during a long ride? Is there a wheel generator to charge them going downhill?.

Most batteries will last 40 to 50 miles but depending on power usage. The assist settings are something like "Echo" "Tour" "Sport" and "Turbo". On our 150K ride we removed the batteries and charged them overnight. At home the charger is next to where I park my bike. Never remove the battery. Regenerative braking only recovers about 4% of energy so is not worthwhile.

We received another 1/2” of rain this afternoon so .. that’s 2 1/4” of much needed moisture in last two days.

I put in some staples to get through the CV situation.
