Good Morning. It's 34° (feels like 26°) and a bit windy this morning. Our high is forecast to get to 55° this afternoon. Though we were north of the forecast "snow line" we got no moisture of any kind. It's predicted to back up in the upper 70's thru the weekend.

I've got one stubborn base of a big oak tree that still smoldering since last Saturday when I lit this burn pile.

IMG_1377.jpg

I gave it a shot with my 40 volt blower Tuesday, again yesterday, and probably later this morning.

I'm planning on most of the day in the shop, with the doors closed,
Working on the mobile base for my 20 ton press. I want to make it portable, to push it out of the way, when I'm not using it, and to raise it up higher for more comfortable operation. The new base will raise it by almost 8". The base is two 3/4 plywood panels, laminated for strength and 4 swivel casters with brakes, rated to 400# each. Pictures tomorrow after it painted.

Don ...snow angel pictures are a must.

Ron ... glad to know Irv is ok. I'm surprised at your TurboTax issues. We've been using it since it was first released many years ago with zero issues.

Eric ... I've got water lines everywhere on the ranch so ... no need to carry water here. I am thinking of adding a hose reel, on the front of the trailer for supply water. The pressure washer hose is 50' (15.24 m ) and on a manual hose reel.

Randy ... that's an interesting trailer.

Hope everyone has an excellent "Friday Eve" today.

Prayers to all.

Sorry Don. If I was visiting you it would be your job to clean up that white stuff. That’s why I traveled your way was to get away from it.

Ron ... did you notice that there are no golfers in Don's picture? We're sissies about that kinda stuff.

I have used TurboTax when it was on Floppy disk with very few problems over the years. When I did my mother’s taxes after she passed I had similar problems. Had to mail it in.

Good Morning!!!! 45F @ 5:15AM. Mainly sunny. High 64F. Winds light and variable.

That gizmo could be the major technology advance of 2020 for you, Paul!

The older I get, the less I sleep, Ted. It's not that I don't need to sleep. My brain just doesn't want to. Almost as though it's afraid of missing out on something...:confused3:
Enjoyed the latest video, too. Made me cringe a bit when Jeff was trying to load the nail gun with his finger on the trigger, though.

Seems to be a lot of thoughtlessness going around Drew, and I'm sorry your medical results took so long to come around. People just don't think through what impact their actions, or lack thereof, have. And not just young, inexperienced people, either. All part of a brave, new world, I suppose.

Good to hear you're past that retirement Rubicon, hawkeye. Won't be long before you start wondering how you ever found time for a job!

Hope your bridge survives the deluge, Wng, and if it doesn't, leaves the log in an easier place to get to.

That Oklahoma road shot reminds me of going through Wyoming snow on the trip back to Ohio several years back. A real nerve racker...

Another sunset shot, this one a panorama. You can't hear it, but Heart was playing in the background. Can't remember what it was the night before, Eric, but Jimi's music is no stranger to the back porch.

The FedEx driver was a little late yesterday, and didn't have enough traction to back the trailer up to the garage (he left some impressive skid marks on the driveway), so we ended up dragging the pallet jack and generator up the slope with the Kubota side-by-side. But we got it done, though I'm not quite sure how I'm gonna get it down onto the pad when the time comes. On to the next challenge.

Steel supplier said the pipe would be ready yesterday afternoon, but I had to run another errand, so that's on the agenda for today. The other shop I tried didn't have it in stock, and wanted more money, but at least I know I'm not getting gouged on the price.

That other errand involved a two hour trip each way in the van, which ran great. Pushing a headwind at between 70 and 80 mph dropped the mileage down to 15, but it's unusual for a Vanagon to be able to even make that kind of speed, the aerodynamics being more akin to a barn door than a Ferrari.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

It looks like the humvee cargo trailer from army surplus in San Antonio.
Item Detail

Theyæ±*e pretty different, if you look closely, his is made in Australia, has diesel heat and hot water, beds, etc...
They had military surplus unit that was converted for camping, he added beds, heat, hot showers, but it wasn稚 as nice or simple to operate, that痴 why they sold it and bought this.

Good morning to all! Low of 16, going up to 45 and sunny. Unfortunately, the system that is moving out of here now, is sucking all the air in behind it.... winds were gusting to 55 mph at 3am. Still steady at 35 this morning, gusts to 45.

The storm system that was here really blew up towards the E / NE. You guys button up and batten down. Saw on the news 13 tornadoes last night from Mississippi on up. Hopefully it does not get too bad.

Quote - - - LS, you son's self effacing presentation style is great to watch and that warm father/son bond shines all the way through, right up to the closing "If dad were a little younger ... we could have done a whole lot more in a day". Do you have to climb up on a step ladder to clip his ear ? - - - Eric
Fortunately for me, I am still taller than both my sons even though I have shrunk almost an 1 1/2 inches..... I do tell them than I am still capable of kicking their butts :D. Luckily I have never had to.....

Kyle, I think he should be a comedian, along with most of the family, he can get everyone rolling on the floor very easily. He does have stage presence and is a fantastic guitarist.
Nawrocki : It likely originated from a place name, Nawra or Nawry, deriving from the verb nawracać, nawr?ić, meaning "to turn, revert, convert," often referring to a change in religion or conversion.

BEF.... yes, I do like playing with glue.... I was behaving myself, I would usually try setting up something so he would sit in it or something like that....

Drew, I bet you could get to tinkering with the lights and get them installed.... if it got put together.... it can come apart... just need to figure out HOW it comes apart...:confused2:

Don, glad some of our snow made it to you!

RNG, I bet you were relieved when the FedEx guy finally showed up. Looks like a nice unit! Sunset pic was gorgeous! Once you get all the supplies, your not going to know which project to start with... they will all be ready to go at once. The van is going to feel neglected!

Third night in a row with trouble sleeping... fell asleep no problem by 10, awake at 11, then at 12:30. Back up at just before 3. Heard the wind ripping and tossed and turned, got out of bed at 4:45.... I did not get a nap yesterday so cannot blame it on that... I just want some sleep....

We did our taxes yesterday using TaxAct. Everything went really good until we went to e-file. It would just sit there saving for 15 minutes. Tried rebooting the computer... same thing. Called them, 1 hour wait time, put in for a call back. Tried on the computer again... no luck. Wifey said to try to file on my IPad . Within 2 minutes DONE! Apparently the old Mac Mini desktop is now really outdated. Got the emails from both the Feds and state that the returns were accepted... WOOHOO! When we pulled last years taxes, we were surprised to see that we filed them also on Feb 5th.... strange coincidence.
Oh, and they called me back just as the file went through... so much for tech support....

Everyone have a great day!

Boy! It's cold outside!

We got another inch of snow...the prediction is for a wintry mix (freezing rain and sleet) this afternoon into tonight. I'm going to wait until that's over before snow blowing. I can handle snow...but ice...nope
I do hope we don't lose power...

31F this morning, couple inches of snow sticking around. Main roads are pretty clear, they usually deice so daughter should be fine for commute.

I find out if I get approved for the early retirement near end of month (Feb). They initially said mid Feb, then in docs say late Feb, and on the virtual sessions indicate end of Feb, beginning of March. My challenge is to get done what has to be done so I'll be ready.

We need to go over our budget again and make sure we know where we spend our money, then talk to financial folks to identify any gaps or recommendations.

I'm sure it will be all good, just need to get it done.

Stay safe, prayers for all

28°F and snow this morning, going up to 33° today. Drove through a pretty heavy snow squall this morning, but it had pretty much ended by the time I crossed the Mississippi River into St. Louis. We got next to nothing out of that storm yesterday, just some ice on the deck.

Wife made breakfast for dinner last night, then I retired to the studio once again to fumble my way around in the new toy. Took me until almost 11:30pm, but I finally figured out how to accomplish the two-channel bass tone I was seeking. Problem was figuring out how to mute one channel completely. Turning off the assigned preamp still allowed the raw signal to flow through that pathway. The internet was no help finding a solution (surprisingly). I finally tried inserting a noise gate at the end of the signal path, turned the output down all the way, then assigned it to the footswitch controlling that preamp channel. It goes off when the channel is selected, allowing signal through, then activates when channel is deselected, completely blocking any signal. Silly workaround for a lack of a mute function, but it worked.

That is an unusual looking camper, Randy. I kinda like it, though.

That is a nice looking RV, Drew. Definitely not priced for entry level.

Kyle, I did not get the Line 6 Variax guitar. I'm still enjoying the wall-o-guitars I already have.

"Technology advance" you say, RNG. I'm sure it will be. I've never been much for music technology. I still prefer real instruments to digital reproductions. However, some tech is hard to pass up ... like the Helix processor. I was scrolling through the factory presets Tuesday night (there are 256 of them) and found settings for Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, George Harrison, Alex Lifeson, Ronnie Montrose, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eddie Van Halen ... just about any legendary guitar player you can think of, and they were all fantastically close even with my Jackson guitar. All at the push of a button. It's amazing. It has every major amplifier from Marshall, Vox, Mesa Boogie, Fender, Bogner, Hiwatt, and many more, dozens of speaker cabinet options, and even different microphone options. There are 1,024 memory locations between the factory presets and the user locations. If it's not already in there, there's plenty of room to create new stuff.
And, I am having fun doing just that.

23ºF for today's low; 28ºF presently. There was a brief period of snow, a shot of sleet, and then precipitation changed over to present freezing drizzle and fog. 3/4" of accumulation crust so far. My existing ice/snowpack + the 3/4" of crust necessitates the continued use of crampons. The birds at the feeders and my Brogen have been slipping around all morning, but not I.

To my neighbors to my north and northwest be careful with the ice and good luck with this storm.

Paul- That is one amazing synthesizer. I hope you get many years of use and advancing technology does not make it obsolete in a year or 2.

RNG- I like your analgesic. When they installed my solar panel frame they just came in and drilled in those anchoring posts. They never hit any rock nor bedrock.

Drew- I am sorry to read about your experience with the ECU nurse and the report screwup, but am happy that the reports were ok.

"Wow! Nice trailer! Matches the Gladiator.... two tough / rugged vehicles. I hope he gets many years of enjoyment from both! I am absolutely jealous!"- Ted I agree and it is obvious that your Son enjoys making his videos.

Randy- Please let Irv know that I am wishing him and his family well.

Hawkeye- I am happy that you survived the prep and your colonoscopy revealed nothing serious ood luck with the transition.

BEF- I am sorry to read about your FIL's neglect, but happy to read that he is able to feed himself again and is being transferred to acute rehab.

Bill- I am happy to read that you are street legal again.

"... Jay, all those weather maps will keep you busy."- RonJH Crazy is a better descriptor. I have been following this system since it was 200 hours out. This weather system is one confusing complex 2 part system, and unfortunately we are going into an active zonal flow period (with lots of rain and mixed precipitation). I think my weather fascination is bordering on "problematic."

Eric- Eric- "Purple Haze brings back memories. Just out of curiosity was Procol Harem on your listening list?

Don- Some snow. I did not get much more than you

Ted- I am sorry to read about your continuing sleep disruptions.

I hope that everyone is having a decent day.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

65°F and .11 inches rain. More rain reportedly moving our way from Oahu forecast to arrive this morning. Will impact how little I get done outside.

Canada Dave made a Costco run yesterday and picked up a nice brisket that’s been slow cooking all night.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Roy, hunker down there, lot of precip heading East. Gale warnings here for tomorrow.

Heavy rain in driving this morning, wipers on fast a few times.
Some days I think none of the locals took driver training as kids.
On the way back from next town on a long straight road, I carefully counted all the oncoming cars.
1 out of 11 did not have their lights on in heavy rain. Even a few trucks.

There should be a mandatory functionality in vehicles that if the rain sensor senses heavy rain while the car is moving,
headlights/running lights automatically come on.
The tech is ancient, they can do this. Might add 50 bucks to cost of car, and what an immediate huge safety improvement.
Some drivers are so ignorant or so distracted they really do need crutches like this. Safer for the rest of us too.
Allow it to be switched off, but mandatory back in action next time car is started.

About to start pouring again, going to gather up my 16 packs of flower seeds which came in yesterday, and head to the warm, dry garden shed where I will turn
on the little clock radio with Out of Africa cd in it, and plant flowers happily.

got gas on way back, nice it dropped a dime to $3.09 for 93 octane E-0

Drew, agree that folks don't understand how headlights help others see them in adverse weather.. I replaced the daytime driving lights on my wife's Tahoe with bright LEDs. It makes a difference on others seeing her coming in the daylight even..

Well morning to all, hope everyone has a decent day.
Just back from my doctors and radiation treatment.
Now checking out the weather reports and trying to decide what to do;
we had 4 inches of snow at 4AM this morning by 6AM the rain has soggyed it down to about 2" with a crust.

and now from the NWS,
Today;
Freezing drizzle likely before 1pm, then a chance of drizzle between 1pm and 2pm, then rain likely after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 33. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.
Tonight;
Rain likely before 9pm, then freezing rain. Low around 29. Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.
Friday;
Freezing rain before 8am, then rain between 8am and 2pm, then snow after 2pm. High near 35. Northeast wind 5 to 14 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
Friday Night;
A chance of snow before midnight, then a chance of snow showers between midnight and 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 10. Northwest wind 9 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

I believe I will wait to plow till Friday afternoon,
wait out all the rain and freezing rain.
A steep ice rink is no fun at all.
May go out late this afternoon and just drive down and back with the tractor to break up the crusty stuff.

everyone have a good day,
Lou
