The wind has been howling half the night, placing sleep on tight rations. Are there any rules that prevent an afternoon nap being taken before midday ?

Scrambler, I have also been looking at another pressure washer. My old electric powered motor model still runs, however I would like a higher power petrol or diesel one that I could also use away from the house.

A few years ago I saw a video showing how the venturi principle can be used to turn a high pressure washer into a trash pump and I have wanted one every since. I have always been fascinated with siphons and venturi suckers have a similar appeal, as they can also appear almost magical in operation. For example, a 5 gallon per minute pressure washer can be used to pump 50 gallons per minute of dirty water.

They sound perfect for cleaning out water troughs and small scale de-silting close to the edge of a pond. I also feel my life will not be complete until I have tried a pressure lance/mud sucker combo to play at digging holes without a shovel. It seems the trick to obtain maximum suction is in correct matching of the venturi nozel to the flow rate and pressure. After hours of searching, I finally found an Italian company with lots of info. A local company should be able to get me one of their bare housings from the distributor, it only costs 17 pounds. View attachment 640080

28 right now...high in the upper 30's today.
Well, Wife and Stepdaughter should be on the aircraft heading to Baltimore to catch their flight to San Antonio...

I'd written the tractor's battery went dead, but did take a charge. Unfortunately, it won't hold a charge. The alternator belt looks fine and appears to be properly tensioned. Bought a replacement battery yesterday...heavy SOB!
I tried charging the original battery enough to get the tractor started so I can drop off the front blade. It's a bear climbing over the framework of the blade...especially with a gimpy leg. Once the front blade is off, it should be quite a bit easier to swap the batteries...so, that's my chore today

...first quick visit to dermatologist for something itchy on my shoulder

Drew, I hope that's not eczema. I have it on my shoulder and neck...it's miserable

Need to pour second cup of coffee. 33ー with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 33ー with chance of rain or snow. Dr appointment yesterday was OK. Got me another test later this month.
Going to meet a RV friend for coffee this morning. Then back home to conserve energy.
Got some LED bulbs for tractor. Installed them. Had to switch + & - wires to get them working. Not sure why Kubota would wire them backwards. Maybe that is why LED's I got for the flashers on rear of tractor years ago do not work properly. Something to check.

Scrambler, I dislike dealer salesmen and financial people. I should tape a "NO" note on my forehead. I think service writers are want a be salesmen.
When there are kids or others I do not want using/playing with my tractor I put both PTO's in gear. It will not start.

Randy, hope the PT goes good.

David, carport is coming along. Hope you get good weather.

RNG, hope inspection went well and generator arrived.

Drew, keep getting better. Wait for first trip into woods with big tractor.

Rick, I enjoy your burn pile pictures. I do have a large pile for my chipper. It's still on the list.

Prayers and best wishes for everyone.

Good Morning All.

60 going to 69.

Just had a shower catch me outside putting some bird feeders back up after bringing them in to keep the raccoons from dropping them from the tree. One wire basket sunflower feeder is bent like an accordion from so many drops...and I've fixed it many times. Worst news is catching two skunks on the trail cam down by the creek Sunday night. So will need to go back on patrol duty. Paul. we can still occasionally smell the skunk "residue" from the fatal encounter in our yard back on December 13...and nice shelf unit project.

Took wife to doctor yesterday and then out to lunch...a part of the city we hadn't been to in a while...lots of construction and new places built.

Eric, I like playing in mud, too. BTW, any signs of the Alien returning to your pond?

   / Good morning!!!! #106,186
54° and raining

I might need Eric’s idea to pump water out of bottom of dishwasher.
First thought was filter blocked or pump not working. Mine is older than some of the YouTube videos, lot more work to take apart to clean out. I turned knob around several times and it would wash but not pump. Then one time the pump kicked in and it emptied the water. So I ran a cycle and it worked. So I put soap in and ran it again. So it appears to be the timer switch not working correctly. It’s not cheap, but will give it a shot first. Did not get part number yet.

When my Massey tractor battery goes bad I use the jump starter on it, after about a year of doing that, I then replace the battery, which I did last spring. My kubota has original battery, so it will go out any time now. So far so good. Should keep battery tender on it but I don’t. I use it every 2 weeks to bring pellets to porch.

Need to get moving soon.

Eric, that sucks.

Good Morning! 60s -70s today, cold front coming at noon and 30s - 40s tomorrow.

FireWise brush clearing this morning, the group is getting larger, we had 18 last week. I usually get the big stuff over 3-7" because I got the sawzall with the 10" blade and 4 extra batteries. Then there is the group with the saws and loppers and then the haulers and finally the mulchers. Everyone works well together.

I'm still in a bad luck slump this quarter in cards and loosing more than winning, oh well, someone has to be on the bottom. I'll start looking at the weekly updated rankings next quarter.

things move slowly in most churches, particularly old ones.
I remember talking about the term overseer thirty years ago sitting on church committees.
Since Philadelphia Quakers, spread out down through Maryland and Virginia,
were often the conductors in the Underground Railroad, bringing freed slaves North,
special long term relationship with folks of color.

Any of you have any name changing in your churches? (not meant to be discussion of any religion, just the name changing part)

At Meeting for Worship for Business this coming Sunday, February 9th, those in attendance will be asked to consider changing the name of the Overseers Committee. The Ad Hoc Committee formed at the last Meeting for Worship for Business to consider alternate names met and reached a decision as outlined below:
Report of the Ad Hoc Committee
Despite its unique history and use within the Society of Friends, the word “overseers” has general connotations of power and authority, and for some people, specific connotations of the brutal authority wielded over enslaved people in America’s past. To prevent pain and misunderstanding and to convey a welcoming, inclusive attitude, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and most of its monthly meetings have discontinued use of the term Overseers.

I personally was on Overseers Committee for many years, pretty much a Board of Directors in an organization without any pecking order.
I don't believe Overseer is a term used in normal industry today, but I bet there are examples out there, likely in foreign countries.

off to buy some Entemann's chocolate donuts for the nurses

No name changes but our church does not use titles that can be misconstrued to power titles.
I was going to suggest the word "Elders" but your group might determine that a name like that would be detrimental toward aging.
The name "council" should be neutral.

Looks to me like being "Politically Correct" has moved int all aspects of our lives. People are offended by so much it's becoming absurd. OK I am off my soap box.

Good Morning!!!! 39F @ 4:30AM. Sunshine and a few clouds. High 57F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.

Your efforts at siphoning were successful, Eric, so there's no reason to think your venturi venture wouldn't be likewise. Just need to figure out where all that water is going to end up after it digs the hole for you. And how you're going to keep your glasses clean...

I think it's admirable that most people will accept change in an effort to make the world a better place. But it takes more than switching the names of things to make real progress, and I wonder if the effort to re-learn vocabulary wouldn't be better spent in changing more concrete things like behavior...

Lots of anxiety out there surrounding the Wuhan virus, and its potential to cause a global pandemic. Key is how long an asymptomatic carrier can spread the disease before they know they're sick. If it's a week or so, the horse has already left the barn and we're in for it. The uncertainty is fanned by China's reluctance to share real numbers on what's going on there. Method of spread seems to be contact based; keep that hand sanitizer handy and use it often when you're out and about. It works for regular flu and colds, too.

Got all the way down to the steel store yesterday, dragging the 20' flatbed trailer, and noticed that the pipe they were about to load wasn't galvanized as I'd specified. The paperwork said galvanized, but the guy that is supposed to check incoming material prior to cutting didn't catch it, so their scrap yard is about to get a fresh load of 3" pipe. And I'm probably out another two weeks before any progress can be made on the solar panels. I've already caught the salesman that made the order trying to sell me a lower grade of steel, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if this time 'round he forgot about the galvanizing. On a more positive note, the building inspector liked the holes for the solar panel supports, so that's one less thing to worry about. Just have to keep the rain out of 'em until the correct pipe shows up.

No sign of the generator here yesterday, and now the tracking info says it's on the way from Seattle. Why in the world anyone would send a 1300 pound generator to Seattle when it was already here in Chico is beyond me, but that's exactly what happened. Maybe the steel salesman's brother works at FedEx?

Good Morning. It's 68° here this morning and cloudy. Our forecast says 82° this afternoon. But ... a cold front is coming thru tonight, dropping our temps to 48° in the morning then in the 30's Thursday and Friday morning.

With our high winds yesterday I spent most of the day, in the shop, but did get a couple hours seat time dragging around the 3-point chain harrow around leveling old gopher mounds in two of our pastures.

Eric ... portability. 13 HP, 4000 psi, 3.8 gpm pressure washer I bought a few years ago. It wasn't very portable with small tires so ... I bought a 40" x 48" trailer at HF and installed the PW on it. Now I can drag it almost anywhere with the Polaris Ranger.

I'm looking into using for dustless blasting.

IMG_0244.jpg

Roy ... battery tenders ... are your friend.

Don ...battery recip. saws are very handy. I've got a Rigid with 18 volt battery. Glad your making progress with your Fire Wise Group.

BEF ... glad you're getting your DW resolved.

Ron ... I looked at chippers like yours several years ago and decided that tractors, with grapples, make for way less manual labor.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Prayers to all.

I was raised Baptist, we are now members of a United Methodist church, the Methodists are about to split into multiple, (at least two) different denominations. This has come about due to the majority conservatives wanting to maintain the status quo. That states that all are welcome in our church, but LGBTQ cannot be ordained or married in the church. The minority progressives want it all. We have many gay members that are perfectly satisfied with current policies, but outside forces feel the need to impose their will.

53° now, 65 later, with showers.

PT turned out to be an hour of paperwork, real deal starts Friday. I came home and tore down two chairs for an old customer, felt good to be using my skills again, and to physically be able.

Might get on the tractor later if the rain holds off.
I leveled some old stump sinks a few weeks ago and seeded them, seeds are not germinating so I may have to buy fresh, these are a few years old, but I’ve had much older seed work fine.

Any of you guys wear compression socks? I’ve been trying them for several days, so far I like them.
Have a good day guys, prayers.

Have any of you put up a fence or other structure using steel for the posts? I'm wondering how I'm going to prop up the posts while positioning them, since I can't nail 2x4s into the steel posts. Maybe use shock cords hooked to nails on the braces?

42°F and cloudy this morning, dropping through the day into the 30s. The rain at midnight was postponed until sometime after noon now, and will continue until cold enough to become snow instead, supposedly around 8pm-ish. Snow predicted for tomorrow at 1-3", maybe more.

Took the car through the carwash again last night on the way home, and got the full package including undercarriage blast and double soaping. I couldn't smell the eau de skunk afterwards, so I parked it in the garage. No skunk funk when I left for work this morning, so I guess I got it this time.

UPS tracker for my new music "toy" says it's out for delivery this morning from their Belleville facility. With any luck, it won't go to Seattle before arriving at the Fairview Heights IL Guitar Center for me to pick up on my way home tonight.

I generally refer to the goings on here as some manner of "One of the guys on the tractor forum ..." Sometimes she seems interested, others she just rolls her eyes.

Mostly, no, the pond is not finished yet. If this bozo can stretch it out until April, it will official be one year from the time he was supposed to start last year.
