Good morning 70 now heading to 80 today
Heading to see my grandson for a little bit then having gutters put across the front of the 3 car garage at the lake and get recommendation for some sort of a gutter guard to keep acorns out
Don sounds like a frustrating day at DMV guess it really doesn't matter what state Motor Vehicle Departments are all alike. I think DMV clerks go to the same training as car salesman.
Enjoy the day and stay safe

Good Morning. It's 77° this morning and going to 97° this afternoon.

Rain got so close yesterday that I could smell it but not a drop. No rain in our forecast until this Friday. I'm thinking ..... the Ranch is in a "rain repel" zone?

Don ..... the Governor heard the People.

Gov. Abbott's push to end long lines at DPS offices across the state
Gov. Abbott's push to end long lines at DPS offices across the...

Drew .... I hope the presentation is actually balanced. There's so much mis-information and flat out lies out there, on glyphosate, spread by unscrupulous lawyers.

BEF & Randy ... keep making progress.

Ron ... You and your Mrs. continue to be in our prayers.

Hope everyone has an excellent Hump Day.

Prayers to all.

Don. Wow, thought DMV was bad here...

68° more humid, overcast.

Not much else to report.

   / Good morning!!!! #98,345
65°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 83° today. Warming to near 90° tomorrow, but back to low 80s for the weekend.

Don, the extra push for proof of citizenship is because the REAL ID Act kicks into full gear next year, courtesy of Homeland Security. Without an approved DL or ID (or a valid passport), you won't be able to board a plane anymore.

Good Morning!!!! 76F @ 6:15AM. Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies for the afternoon. High 96F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

A few days ago there were weather warnings for today that included thunder storms. Today, they've disappeared and all we get are clouds. That's a good thing considering how dry everything is, and how many fires have been started by lightning in the past.

I think DMVs across the country are now requiring additional documentation due to the Real ID movement, all of it tied into airport security. I went through that a few weeks ago, and had to provide my birth certificate, driver's license (it doesn't expire until next year), Social Security card, and two utility bills to prove my address. The clerk photocopied everything, handed back my paperwork, took a check for $23, and two weeks later my new Real ID driver's license showed up in the mail. The DMV here did a pretty good job of providing instructions on their website, and thankfully they were accurate. The clerk I got acted like he'd never done one before, and had to talk to a couple other people when he got stuck. Kind of hard to believe, since this has been going on out here for a year or so...

It sounds un American that some company can pollute your groundwater unless you can provide proof that doing so is harmful. I'm no lawyer, but it doesn't seem fair that you'd have to pay for expert testimony, too, Don. Have you spoken to an attorney about this?

Nice breakfast at the little cafe in Oroville yesterday, but the ride got cut short when I found a quarter sized puddle of oil under the motorcycle afterwards. Got home, dug out the spare fork slider from the rafters, and had it swapped out by noon. About then I noticed an extra crush washer half trapped under the drain plug on the one I took off. Don't know how it got there, other than that spot is real hard to see... Took another look at the carbs and made an adjustment to needle height that should richen things up just a tad off idle, just where there's been a flat spot. Then found a split boot on one of the coil wires where it's been rubbing on the fuel tank. Shortened up the posts on the coil bracket to fix that, and am hoping that'll fix some electrical noise in the system. Probably safer, too, seeing as how sparks and gasoline don't mix so well outside the combustion chamber. The special plastic glue showed up on time, letting me attach the little brackets to the side covers. I found a small bungee cord that should work just perfect for connecting the two covers. Funny how I can find some things easily, and other stuff seems to disappear into thin air, never to be seen again. I'm still trying to find the instrument cover I made up for the VW, and I've spent hours looking all over for it...

I could only finish half of yesterday's burrito, so I'll have the rest this morning then go for that ride. Hopefully get back before it gets too hot, and then maybe catch up to that missed siesta.

Happy Hump Day, folks!

Loving these cool mornings..

Decided we will likely use 6x6 treated posts for deck support instead of concrete posts. The current deck (many of the deck boards have rot), the supporting posts look good as new.. we don't think concrete will provide any benefit (more cost and work).

RNG, your mechanical ability is really amazing.

Two hour presentation by NC State professor, very interesting presentation on glyphosate, and no I am not relieved after seeing the presentation.
The science is good, but it's still guesswork. First on mice they figure out what dose would kill half the mice, then they reduced that amount by 90 percent, then they divided by 100. Basically one hundredth of what they think will likely kill you if it were ten times stronger. One one hundredth of one tenth.
They guessed at it...and only time will tell on longer cancer studies.

What I am convinced of is this is the best and least toxic product available for us, if applied properly.
And the latter is a huge issue.
I don't wear gloves while using Roundup. I sure will from now on...dermal contact a prime issue.
Long paints and long shirt. Never do that. Basically don't get it on you and for sure don't breath it.

Here's a fun factoid. Since the beginning, 80 people have tried to commit suicide by drinking Roundup/glyphosate.
Ten percent were successful. The other 90 percent are being actively studied and so far no grand conclusions from that,
but at least they survived.

I asked if I could spray glyphosate in my veggie garden and plant the next Spring and have all chemical residue gone.
A resounding NO.................
It still sticks around, as it binds immediately and strongly to the soil. Yes they say things will live if planted a month or two later in that soil, but
plant uptake would be bad news for edibles. I would imagine it would get into the flowers, and the pollenizers will then track it from plant to plant.
This is why it is likely that every one of us has some ppm of glyphosate in our bloodstream right now.
I have serious neurological issues, constant muscle firing in spots, just have to wonder where this all comes from. And not just weedkillers, all the stuff we eat
and work in.

If there was a more effective safer product, someone would displace Roundup and market their own better product.
But at the moment, that product just doesn't exist. Gyphosate is the best of an inherently worrisome group of chemicals, and since it's introduction into
the markets, use of much nastier chemicals has dropped dramatically. Farmers need a solution. Not sure they have what they need now. Plus resistance builds up to almost all chemicals and they have to make changes ongoing to deal with that. Just like antibiotic resistance.

I suggested that after my reading of all the legal references on Bayer AG's and Monsanto's website, Roundup would not be on the market in five years.
It will be reformulated, I bet to lower concentrations, and renamed.
Guy from NC State agreed with me.
Can you imagine if Ford lost 40 percent of its market value due to one bad car, say the modern Edsel, causing huge losses to the company?
How long would they make that car til they replaced it with something new and improved...
Legal claim reserving is off the charts based on current almost 19,000 plaintiffs on record.
Monsanto is costing Bayer too much money.

Presentation was fair and informative. Two thumbs up.
And on gravel away from all food, I'll be using some this afternoon.
with gloves on for the first time.

And on gravel away from all food, I'll be using some this afternoon.
with gloves on for the first time.

I'll be doing the same this weekend. For better or worse, it's still the best product available to do what needs to be done.

Besides, if I captured rainwater and sprayed it on my driveway weeds, someone would find a reason to complain about that, too.

Pretty day, low 80s sun and clouds. Club meeting and dinner last night, good to be getting out some.
I use glyphosate on my raised beds about now, in two weeks I plant mums and pansies, they grow just fine. It痴 not a pre emergent so it has to be sprayed on the plant.

Prayers for all in need. BEF, still rooting for you.

my neighbor and I struggled for over an hour to get my chipper moved five feet. Put it in middle of shed with medium Massey, the one I sold. Big Massey won't fit under shed roof. My neighbor's JD 3 with sun roof could not quite clear the ceiling beams, third one in was lower than outside one and boy I'm glad we went slowly, particularly with his Uncles' brand new tractor. So we dragged it onto a pallet after having to reinforce the pallet, then dragged the pallet far enough out we could get nose of big Massey under shed roof and position. So much to go such a little way...

chipper is sold, 13 hours. Not one of my better ideas, found burn pile way easier.
Guy who owns a pool company over in Raleigh answered my craigslist ad. Seems like a nice guy and didn't try to beat me
down on price.

Another guy emailed yesterday asking if I'd take 500 dollars less for a cash price.
What did he think he was going to pay me in? Watermelons? Happily replied it sold for full asking price.

Thanks for the news on glyphosate, Drew. I've always been careful about skin contact, but only recently started wearing a respirator with cartridges approved for organic chemicals, the same one I wear when spraying paint. It's a real killjoy for the spraying job, but then again I suppose cancer is even more so.

When I've had to move things I can't get to with the pallet forks, I've either hooked enough log chain together to reach between it and the tractor, or used jacks to lift it and put steel pipes under it so I could roll it. That only works on concrete or asphalt, though.

Remember I said the forecast for fire weather never materialized? Well, I was wrong. I've always seen it on my WeatherUnderground page, and today it wasn't there. It was plastered all over the NOAA page, though, and a good size thunderhead just rattled overhead. I just got home after my ride, with enough time to squirt some Gunk on the bike, and now it's raining lightly, probably still going to need a hose and brush.

Maybe I spoke (wrote?) too soon? Radar sez there's a blob of yellow and orange that just sprung up out of nowhere taking pretty good aim here. So maybe I'll get a free bike and VW wash!:cool2:

Oh, and the flat spot is gone, there were no oil leaks, and after some thought, the static I hear in the audio system might be coming from the tachometer pickup wire going to the new dash instrument. It was wrapped around a spark plug cable, which according to the instructions, was an OK thing to do. But because this fancy German ignition system apparently fires each plug three times instead of just one, the RPM reading is way high. I disconnected the tach wire to avoid the flashing red light from the instrument, but now I think I'll hook it to the same terminal that my analog tachometer uses and see if that takes care of the static. Otherwise it was an interesting ride. One of the roads I was on just a couple weeks ago now had a stream crossing, only about five feet wide, but deep and soft enough to get my heart started. When in doubt, gas it was never more true. And the Buck's Lake road between Quincy and Oroville is still out after going on three years, and they were working on the dirt fire road when I came through. It was wet from a water truck, which left me a bit anxious with the mud, but about half way through they were spreading gravel and rolling it, mostly in the oncoming lane. I took it easy and had no problems, but it sure makes me wonder if there are any plans to fix the highway, or if the county just can't afford to.

58 this morning and 80 currently. Nice low humidity. But foggy this morning.

Started dragging logs out. Think excavator is done. Now for the cleanup. Started looking around and figuring out a sorting plan. Initial count is 70-80 poplar logs. That is around 2 loads headed to the mill when I get them all dragged out. I’ll get everything piled and have a buyer come look at them.

Drew. Nice chipper. Glad you sold it quickly and for asking. Shows fair pricing. Glad it was a good program. Your takeaway is very good to hear. It’s the safest product on the market to do its job. It’s refreshing they were able to convey that. I wear gloves spraying glyphosate but I should do a better job of wearing them when I spray 2,4d. I stopped to talk to the farmer that buys my litter. He made a comment about the lawsuits. Said according to the courts he should be dead. A guy got cancer spraying his driveway from a gallon jug. He sprays 700-800 gallons of concentrate every year. Said something didn’t make sense.

Question for y’all. What is the most absorptive patch of skin on your body?

   / Good morning!!!! #98,359
My estimate this month is 2670 kwh $257
Last month 1804 kwh $176.

   / Good morning!!!! #98,360
I envy you, we pay just over 36c per KWH plus a $1.40 per day supply charge, fortunately the solar helps take a large lump off this off during summer and autumn with an infeed rate of 12c per KWH.
We run most things during daylight to keep the bill down such as dishwasher, washing and the heat pump hot water.
