28°F and partly cloudy this morning, going up to 45° today.

We got about an inch of snow yesterday, and most of it was gone by the end of the day. It was that fluffy wet snow, so the drop in temperatures over night froze it up pretty solid. Glad I thought to go out and clear off my car yesterday evening. I saw several people this morning driving with that frozen snow covering half their windshield (not smart).

What a difference a day makes. Gotta love winter in the midwest.

DLee tractor pasture.JPG March snow.JPG

Got a few areas cleaned up Saturday while the weather was still mild. Wifey wanted to drive the tractor, so I just did the lifting to load the bucket and she made the runs back to the burn pile. Got rid of a bunch of half-decayed straw bales and some unused fire wood that was left uncovered for too long. The ground was still kind of mushy in places, and we left some ruts back by the barn. Need to fix that before mower season starts.

Somewhat amazed at how much the chicks are growing so fast, bigger and taller. It's noticeable every day.

I've been searching over the last couple of weeks for a used iPad for an upcoming music project. You wouldn't think it would be so hard to get your hands on one. You'd be wrong. I found a bunch of them listed on Craigslist and OfferUp. Out of seven inquiries, I received exactly zero replies. One guy I called Friday said he'd already sold it, and guessed that he needed to take down the ad. It was still there yesterday. Saturday, I started calling local electronics repair places and pawn shops. Out of half a dozen of those, no one had anything in stock. Unbelievable.

Wifey found out I was looking after seeing my Facebook rant on the subject, checked on Facebook market place, and had two replies with a couple of hours. She met up with a young woman in Edwardsville IL while she was out and about yesterday, and brought me home a nearly perfect condition 16Gb iPad 3 yesterday afternoon for a very reasonable $130.

Life is curious sometimes.

Good Morning!!!! 51F @ 6:30AM. Partly cloudy. Slight chance of a rain shower. High 67F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph.

Rain moves in tonight, the first of a series of storms that will bring several inches of the wet stuff, and several feet of snow to the mountains. Just what the doctor ordered, as snow depth is still only 37% of average.

Hope those of you out driving in the slop have an easy time of it.

Didn't take long to fill up that new garage space, did it Randy?:thumbsup: Once drove a Monte Carlo non-stop from central Ohio to San Francisco, and have had a soft spot for them ever since. Love to see some photos of your new one...

Beautiful day yesterday with mild temperatures and lots of sunshine. Had the doors open to the garage and got buzzed by a hummingbird, just checking things out I think. Wonder if he was the one that was trapped inside for two weeks a few years ago? He had a whole quart of nectar to himself and probably lived like a king, and I couldn't get him to leave...

Got the tail light and license plate mounted to the rear fender, and the wires connected for the light. Brake light works, haven't figured out how to jumper the ignition switch yet to test the tail light or turn signals, but will try that today. The horn works, and boy is it loud! They don't make 'em like that any more. It's an old Klaxon brand from France, an oddity for a German vehicle of that time. Also polished what I hope is the last half dozen bolt heads, and should finish the fender mounting today if a pair of tiny M3 screws show up and I can mount a wiring bulkhead that goes just in front of the fender. Can't get to the back of it once the fender is fully in place. Gear oil for the transmission, drive shaft tunnel, and final drive showed up yesterday, as did a new design cable luber I'm anxious to try. The straight 40W Valvoline VR-1 motor oil comes tomorrow, and it'll be time to start the engine. Really looking forward to that, so today I'll install the head pipes and mufflers. Unless the mechanic calls and sez is pipe is ready for pickup, but I wonder if that'll happen.:confused2:

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!

Also received the iRobot vacuum cleaner refund yesterday and started shopping for a replacement. Funny how the reviews that compare a half dozen or more of them never touch on reliability, customer service, or availability of replacement parts, but the reviews posted by people on Amazon sure do. Some of them are just hilarious, like this one:

1.0 out of 5 starsKamikaze Neato, meant for greater things.
ByCRSon July 17, 2016

Let me preface this review by saying we loved our Neato Botvac. We wish we could give him five stars for doing a great job of vacuuming, but have to give him one star because of his dramatic and tragic demise, and the difficulty in dealing with his manufacturer on his warrantied return.
Our little Neato was a greatly anticipated addition to our family, and we welcomed him with excitement and open arms in January of 2016. As promised by his creators, he diligently worked each day to vacuum a large home with a lot of dog hair, mountain pine pollen dust, and day to day crumbs and debris. Working for two to three hours at a time, he would move around, creating a gentle hum as he vacuumed our great room with ease; navigating under chairs, over rugs, and around the two Labrador Retrievers. He occasionally would get hung up on a floor vent, and he would call for us with a gentle beep-beep, or if we were out of earshot, a polite on-line prompt. He also would let us know when it was time to empty his dustbin. He picked up a surprising amount of dirt for such a compact machine, and we gloated with pride over our efficient and effective Neato. As time went on, he began to get more comfortable with us--increasingly brave and more adventurous as he traveled through his daily cleaning journey. This pioneering spirt was greatly appreciated, as Neato began ambling further afield, cleaning long hallways, finding new rooms and vacuuming adventures with every turn. We laughed and took pictures like proud, amused parents when Neato, by his own volition, ventured outside--and in the process, vacuumed our deck with a dogged determination and what seemed like a renewed sense of purpose. Of course, we gently chided him and brought him back inside, reminding him he was an indoor vacuum, unlike his distant and ungainly cousin, the Shop-Vac. As time went on, his roaming adventures continued, and as his arc of travel grew wider, we would occasionally lose our fair haired boy. A distant beep would summon us from across the house, and we would search in a frantic panic as his incessant beeping that sounded like a sad bleat from a lost lamb calling for his mother echoed in our ears. In hindsight, we realize that was the turning point. Now we lie awake at night with tears in our eyes and guilty regret in our hearts. We look at each other, with words unspoken yet understood--we should have known that our Neato was crying for help. That his roaming far afield was a sign of a more deeply rooted problem. That vacuuming the deck wasn't funny, it was a call for attention. That he wasn't happy with us at all. That he wanted to find a way out. And find a way out was just what our dear Neato did. In a final act of lonely desperation, Neato hurled himself down a landing in a Kamikaze death spiral, plummeting over two flights of stairs, exploding into tiny bits and pieces that were a shadow of his former, vibrant self. His lights flickered on and off as my husband raced to the lower level, finding him in a heap of parts on the floor. A few long, distorted and pained beeps were the last words he spoke.
Now some may say our Neato was only a robot with no heart and no soul. That he simply malfunctioned, wandered off track and lost his way, not knowing that the landing was dangerous and a place to be avoided. We prefer to believe that he longed for more, and felt trapped like a caged animal in the monotony of his day to day life as a small appliance. That like winged Icarus, if he could get closer to the sun, he would find true happiness and peace. We want to believe he realized he was meant for greater things--not just a lowly wi-fi enabled robot meant to vacuum up dog hair and yesterday's crumbs, but a free and noble creature--meant for the sky, not the floor.
And so we say goodbye to our brave and fearless Neato. You were loved. You are being replaced by the Neato Corporation, ℅ the Funai Service Corporation, who are making me pay shipping for your return, and who have not been easy to deal with when it comes to fixing a problem for a product that is still under warranty--requiring multiple submissions of the same pictures, invoices and statements. We can only hope that your replacement is as diligent as you have been, but a lot less adventurous. We have learned our lesson and will keep New Neato restricted to a smaller area- no taste of the road, no adventure, no outdoor journeys. A simpler life, but a safe one.
Good luck little friend! We will miss you.

:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Sadly, almost all of the designs offered today have at least 10% one star ratings, and some have more than 25% combined one and two star ratings. I'm looking for at least 90% four and five star ratings, and it seems that the technology hasn't yet caught up with the ability to produce something that works reliably for at as long as the warranty.:confused2:

I've been searching over the last couple of weeks for a used iPad for an upcoming music project.

Curious how you'll be using the iPad PJ? A friend plays guitar and was thinking about using one to display his sheet music, but ended up with a one of the larger Microsoft offerings because he couldn't find an app that would work for him on the iPad. It just killed him to buy the thing because he HATES Microsoft products, too.

Good morning everyone.

A mixed sun/cloud morning with temperatures still below freezing. The NWS has upped our area to a Winter Storm Warning with 9" predicted. No big deal. I need to move some firewood around prepping for this storm.

RNG- Poor Neato.

Drew- I wish you have safe travels today.

Ed- I hope your Mom's breathing improves and that all goes well at her doctor's appointment.

My wife suffers from diverticulitis. Her last episode was a "pan colitis" event = a 911 and 4 days in the hospital. The first responders were here w/i 5 minutes, and they kept coming. The first ambulance arrived in around 7 minutes and the second arrived a few minutes later. There must have been a dozen first responders in our living room before the 24 mile ambulance ride to the hospital. I thought wifey was having a coronary event. Wifey was on that low residue diet for a long time.

Considering our isolated location the emergency services here is amazing. They saved my life.

I hope that everyone has a manageable day today.

My + thoughts, prayers, and wishes for all.

Good morning all! Only got about 2" of snow, would have gotten more but temp stayed just above freezing. Gate latches frozen, walkways have a coating of ice. Shouldn't be here long, supposed to go up near 50 today.

Go back to work on light duty tommorow. Still have to get an ortho appointment. At least I'll be busy.

Glad you guys were able to get your car clocks updated. They make a simple task so complex. DST is such an inconvenience to accomplish nothing. At least we have longer daylight.

Prayers sent out for those in need.

Everyone have a great day and start of a great week!

Jay, glad your 911 events turned out well and that you have a great services in your area. It amazes me how some rural areas are still lacking in emergency services and the minimal level of training. I am curious about the EMS in your area, do they carry narcotics for pain control? We carry 3 types of pain control here, soon to have a fourth. All can be administered by protocol, no MCEP orders needed. I was surprised that many areas of the country have very limited "protocols" or "standing orders" available to EMS providers.

RNG, funny...wonder if Neato was a cousin of hazel? Good luck in your search

Drew, be careful in your travels...get home safe.

Randy, sounds like you had a very eventful day! Definitely have to get those 20's off if your going to keep her. Had a '76 Monte Carlo. It was a dog power wise, but loved the body style w/ the long nose.

LS- I really do not know about our EMS narcotic protocols. I have had 3 "911" trips to the ER 24 miles away. The response times were similar to those of my wife's. The first "trip" was work related- I slipped on and broke through the ice and into the mud below escorting the students back to their dorms shattering my ankle. It looked "bad." The EMT's gave me "something" for the pain. I now have 1 plate, two pins, 6 screws, and probably some wire hardware in there. They gave me an epidural for the surgery. I was awake and "alert" the entire operation.

I am glad you will be able to occupy yourself with light duty. I'd caution you as to taking it easy, but you would ignore my suggestion. ;) I will caution you about using a wheeled office chair as a wheelchair.

The clouds are starting to stratify with this advancing storm system.

I saw the first male redwing blackbird at the feeders this AM. Spring AKA Mud Season will arrive here someday

Good afternoon. Nice and sunny here for a while, relatively warm as well.

Going to take the jump on the Iseki TS35F. Hope I can get the guy to throw in bale spears for the price he is asking. Now that its warming up, time to start working and stop shopping...

5 minutes is a great response time for 24 miles-- how is it possible that they get there so fast? When a lady here blacked out from drinking far, far, far too much palienka at a village party, it took the ambulance 15 minutes to go 10 miles. I've thought for this reason of buying an AED (though I can't afford it at present), as I think the ambulance will be too late for anyone suffering cardiac arrest, and actually got from my sister-in-law (pharmacist) vials of adrenalin in case one of our kids will be the unlucky ones that go in to anaphylactic shock after a bee sting.

Wife and I decided to tackle a project we had been discussing.. her sewing table was a leftover office table (30x60 about 27 high).. She wanted 25" deep and planned on using stock cabinets. We planned it out in detail at Lowes, then went shopping for the countertop.. she wanted butcher block. We found some reasonably priced and decided to use wooden table legs instead of cabinets (3 work spaces each 30")... Got all the pieces home and started constructing.. It is in garage in process of being stained and sealed. Weekend project that will spill over for a week or so..

Prayers for those with health problems and other needs.

Andrew- Most of the local towns around here have their own first response facilities and vehicles and 24/7 available volunteer fire and EMT personnel. Ambulances are also housed in those facilities. There is a 24/7 staffed emergency response facility ~10 miles down the road. Our town has ~900 residents and has a fully equipped facility.

Good luck with the Iseki.

One of the multitude of projects I've had simmering on a back burner for far too long is a Sinatra tribute. Yes, I am a Frank Sinatra fan. My idea was to arrange the music for a 3-piece jazz band. I'm recording the drums and bass parts, then playing guitar and singing over them ... ala one-man-band. The iPad came into the picture because I wondered if there was an app (we called them "programs" when I was a whippersnapper) geared specifically towards the burgeoning solo act scene. Turns out, there are quite a few. One I found is called Stage Traxx, and seems to get great reviews. It allows me to create set lists, link songs to be played back to back or pause in-between, and scrolls the lyrics of the song as it plays. There are even bluetooth footswitches available to control it. I downloaded the app yesterday and played around with it a little. It's very well thought out. Should work great. Just me and a guitar, microphone, iPad, and a small PA ... and I can make $250 on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon at various wineries around the area playing those classic swinging jazz standards that everyone knows.

Probably not the image you had of the long-haired progressive rock guy, huh?

I'm also not a fan of the Microsoft driven stuff. My Wife has a couple of devices, a notepad and a "surface", that are just a bit strange to operate. She was playing around with the new iThingie yesterday and liked it a lot more than hers. We've both had iPhones for so long now that the iOS is just familiar and intuitive for us.
