Thanks for sharing the snow pics, Don and Kyle. I had to go put on a sweater about half way through...

So far, Ron, it's looking like you picked a good year to skip Texas for your winter trip!

56F is brisk, David? That's only a few degrees off the high here, and barely cool enough for a long sleeve T-shirt.:confused2:

Still, I'm whipping up a big batch of chicken'n'rice soup in the Instant Pot, and I'll think warm thoughts your way tonight at dinner time.:licking:

Tops, it sounds like you avoided REAL trouble. Glad you had your instinct.

Long ago, co-worker's buddy was riding home on I10 west out of Houston. At 3am after his 2nd shift, a vehicle with thugs ran him off the freeway and stopped. Fortunately he had a shotgun and slid out the passenger door with it, pointed it across his hood and yelled, "first one that comes over here gets shot". He said they tore outta there like their hair was on fire.

We would have left TX last Sunday. Arriving in Mesa tomorrow or Sunday after visits along the way. AZ has temperatures in the 70’s after a couples days in the 60’s.

Beautiful scenes, Don. Glad you had the chance to get out and enjoy.

We are getting heavy snow now, with about an inch so far, and supposed to get 2 to 4 inches before it's over.

My wife and I did a pre-snow walk about this morning, again looking for this year's Christmas tree. Turns out that her pick was the top 9 feet of a 30 foot cedar up near the road. That's when it started snowing. So took my chainsaw, tractor and began the process of cutting the lower limbs off so I could get to the trunk. Cut it down, took off the bottom 20 feet, and laid it gently into my grapple and took it up to the house for final inspection...began snowing harder...that made the final choice go easier...put the stand on and carried it into the house. By the time I grappled 3 loads of the cut off limbs over to a brush pile, and carried 2 very nice cedar posts over to the post pile, I was covered in snow and ready for the hot chocolate I'm enjoying now.

Snow day today. 1st time we've ever had more than a dusting here since 1985 or 1986 here in Giddings, best my wife can remember. To be specific, it snowed 17" in Victoria (100 miles south of here in 2004).

Notice my pecan tree still has/had green leaves.

School here actually ran 2 hours late. Roads are good now, but I decided to let the kids play as a different type of learning environment today.

Don, I got the fireplace burning now too.

That's wild still having green leaves on the pecans. Do you usually have them this late?

Sometimes these younger trees will put out a 2nd growth of leaves. This one did this year but not the other, (same age but slightly bigger).

Sounds like y'all might have a dandy tree (since the Mrs picked it). :)

Good morning. The dog didn't want to linger outside this morning. Wind combined with a mixture of rain that is wannabee snow and snow that is wannabe rain made us both grateful to be back inside.

Thanks Don, will have to try that. Our postman is the best source of rubber bands, though he may struggle to find one that wide. Any more tips - how to stop a youngster crying after I've stolen his balloon ? :)
<snip>
Give him two balloons:)

Eric - do you, or whomever does the laundry, use "wool dryer balls"?
Amazon.com: Wool Dryer Balls (6 Pack) - The ORIGINAL "Sheep Balls"! -Includes Rockin' Green Soap Starter Pack - XL Premium, All Natural, Reusable: Health & Personal Care.

Seems another excellent use of sheep.

41 degrees in rain, snowing like crazy in Western part of State.
Low of 36 tonight. More rain all day long tomorrow. So far nice steady light rain, sometimes heavier.
Exactly what we needed, a good soaker. But that means more white stuff not too far North of here.

Tonight I'm working on my Baker Creek Seed order for veggies next Spring. Fun to look at things that grow on a cold wet night here.
Little electric heater down by my feet giving me just the right baking.
