41 and the rain is ending...going to 59. Quite the storm blew through last night...big wind, rain, and 10 degree drop in temps in 10 minutes.

CWB, nice thing you did helping the young folks learn to shoot. We need for more city people to learn how to be responsible and comfortable with firearms.

Don, nice to hear more Whipper progress...probably back on the prowl today.

Randy, hope you get well today.

We had 2 sons, 1 wife, and 2 dogs over for dinner last night. Good food and good fun.

B7510HSD Steve, I just learned what geoduck is last night. Ever eaten it?
no not much on seafood maybe clam chowder fish and chips that's about it for me.

No wonder Whipper needed help finding Don.
Whipper is a LADY.

oops....
ok, she can get a pink smart phone.

even if a male dog is neutered, I'd still call him a he. ??
Perhaps long haired dogs seem more female?
Have you had sensitivity training in dealing with your dog's ****** identity? :D

I'm just glad Don isn't worried about his dog anymore. Wishing tranquility over the whole situation.
Back to beating back the mesquite.

The low this morning was 27*, yesterday's high was In the low 50's. Today's going to be cooler, high in the low 40's with 15-20 wind. With some clouds this morning.

We got the last of the wood cut for the neighbor. Most of it is lodge pole pine 10-12 inch . This one is just under 17 inches, big for the trees here.

Not sure what I'll be doing today.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Boy...a bad start to the week!!!

Both roads south (to I-89) were blocked by downed trees and power lines. The "main" road, VT RT 12, was easy to turn about. The "back way", Bethel's North Main Street, is a narrow dirt road...got 2-3 miles down an the road was blocked by a fallen tree. Narrow road, not so easy to turn around
Went home for a bit, in the hopes Rt. 12 would be open, but no such luck...so, made the decision to catch I-89 at Randolph. This would add 20some miles to the drive to work. Went down a road that bypasses the "downtown" area, come around a curve...next thing I see is a tree in the windshield. I'm not sure if it was hanging, or if it was falling as I passed. Either way...it dented the left front fender, hood and cracked the windshield lower left corner. It also yanked the LH side mirror right out of the housing. Not sure how that happened.
Anyway, here at home setting up an appointment with an adjuster.

Good Morning!!!! 57F @ 8:15AM. 0% Precip. / 0.00 in. Partly Cloudy. High 68F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Ever given any thought to having Ms. Whipper chipped, Don? That way, even if she manages to slip her tracking collar, whoever finds her can help her get back to you.

Best of luck with the inspection, Ed.

Does laying a hedge mean you're cutting it down, Eric? Regardless, sounds like a very prickly situation with that hawthorn!

The spokes on this old BMW are straight, in that the heads aren't bent like on most modern motorcycles. They also don't touch each other on their journey from hub to rim, and I'm hoping those two things will make relacing easier, Mostly. But since this type will be a first for me, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Haven't decided if I'm going to replace each spoke separately, or take the wheel apart and rebuild it. There are advantages either way, and pitfalls, too.

Finished polishing the second rim yesterday, then worked some more on the moveable base for the flex shaft. Got the two old flywheels machined so that they can be joined together, and one of them drilled and tapped for the bolts that will hold the casters in place. Also made up a sleeve to hold the upright on, and since the flywheels were made from some sort of cast iron, used the bronze wire from the VW to MIG it in place. Both sections were over a quarter inch thick so I turned the machine up all the way, and it ended up spitting balls of bronze all over the welding table. They sure stuck good, needing something more than a scraper to get them off.

Today I hope to get the flywheels painted, but the big event will be getting up on the roof to clean out the wood stove flue. Man, I hate that job, what with the bouncy ladder and 20' height of the chimney top. Never seem to get much creosote out, either, but I guess better safe than sorry. Now where did I put my parachute?

I guess I should also replace the tarp over the firewood pallets, and do it before the winds come up enough to make the job "interesting".

Hope everyone's week gets off to a good start...

44°F and some sprinkles falling this morning, going up to 52° today.

Took a couple days off, and had some serious catching up to do here this morning. Glad things worked out with Whipper, Don.

Our flooring contractor came in Thursday and laid the vinyl in the basement bathroom and walkout porch, and got a start on the tack boards and carpet. They came back Friday and finished the carpet. I took both days off from work to move stuff for them, mostly The Wife's expensive quilting machine, which we didn't care for the idea of being moved by other's who don't understand (or sometimes care) that it costs as much as a car. All went well, and we were moving things back into place Saturday and Sunday. Got the basement livingroom moved and set up Saturday. Started on setting up my studio Sunday, and finished some other little things, like wall-mounting the television and connecting the new LG soundbar and wireless sub. She's spending some time today trying to figure out where all the pictures will go.

The plumber is there this morning to connect everything in the basement bathroom, and the glazer is coming Friday to refinish the basement bathtub. It's already nice to be getting some space back. Will be really nice to enjoy an uncluttered holiday period.

Here are a bunch of pics to clog up the thread:

40F and overcast @ 11:45.

Ran back down to TSC yesterday after picking up more board-up :)() supplies at the Depot. I wanted to pick up cheap pair of cotton loves the had ($4) and told The Woman they had bulbs for fall planting on sale for 25% off (of $6.99) After we got there she sort of poo-poo'ed the bulbs, saying she didn't want to plant them. Told her I would do it ... which didn't really move her any, although she did consent to one pkg. of large crocus bulbs ...

She also insisted I should get a good pair of winter gloves, which we did. Thinking about it now however, I think I may already have a pair ... I just couldn't remember at the time. Might have to return them ... although they are real nice (insulated deerskin suede and only $12) Also got a bag of peanut suet nuggets for boids ...

Finished off the trip picking up takeout at Kabab and Curry. Since we can get at least two meals out of each meal we get, it's fairly easy to justify economically.

Woman is cleaning out the freezer today, and after the delivery guy drops off my package from Amazon we'll be heading into town to do more board up. As of yesterday, there were only 2 unbroken front windows (out of 10 or 12 ?) remaining ... plan to cover those as well as the 2 that were most recently broke out ... :(

toppop ... hope you get over that stomach flu soon. I've had it and it sure ain't any fun.

PJ, marvelous pics and great work. Who is that beautiful woman at the piano?
Or as we are now supposed to ask...who is that
talented pianist at the piano?
I must admit I sure am going to be offended if some woman calls me a hunk.
Just watch how much offense I'll take. Dinner at 7? :D

But for sure not to make light of an important topic, and a reality all your daughters and wives go through.

When you look at the bio of one of our members, which I just did, and it says one of his favorite desires, or goals, or likes is meeting women with large breasts,
my jaw sort of dropped. Well, that's telling it honestly at least.

I guess we men can start to understand how the other half lives. The romantic in me thinks every woman wants to be looked at with desire, but the realist is that
some are extremely sensitive in this area and all you have to do is read the paper today, the headlines are full of woman grabbing confessors. Including sadly our dignified past President
who is just simply out of it with dementia. But we trot him out for photo shoots and look what happens. His dear wife should keep him home.
And now we have tales of the casting couch in Hollywood.

Those of you with teenage daughters must have some very interesting discussions with them about this. How to keep them safe. How they need to keep themselves safe in so many
different situations. Daddy, I want to go to the nightclub. Daddy I want to go to the concert. All new concerns now.

ok, back to regular programming. Nice visit with seed dealer this morning then Massey dealer. Got my paint and new hood decals, plus a new rubber reverse pad. Talked with owner about fertilizer, chemical sprays and planting. Learned a lot. Still know relatively nothing. Ordered a basic fertilizer spreader for the three point and a new small bush hog for the back of the small Massey. Was fun to listen to farmers at parts counter rattle on about picking the combine head up for this and the wet spot they should have avoided, etc, etc.

PJ, marvelous pics and great work. Who is that beautiful woman at the piano?

Thanks, Drew. That is my beautiful Wife ... Mrs. PJS. :D

... and she is absolutely not offended by guys admiring her. She's not that thin-skinned, but has no trouble standing up for herself either when someone crosses a line. I've watched from the stage on several occasions as she dropped someone on a dance floor for invading her personal space or being too handsy. It's pretty entertaining.

I think I heard a collective sigh of relief and maybe even a squeal of delight Sunday coming from somewhere east of here, and I'm pretty sure it was from Trenton! Looks just beautiful PJ, and I bet you can't wait to crank up those Carvers to really sound it out!

Managed to avoid a swan dive off the roof while cleaning the wood stove flue, but also noticed several roof tiles had worked loose and were out of place. Put the 20' extension ladder away and got out the shorter one to take care of those, and gave the gutters a quick clean up as well. Hopefully that's it for the aerial activities until next year.

Now to swap out the tarp over the wood pile. At 30'x30' it's always somewhat of a wrestling match...:confused2:
