Good morning!!!!

Drinking first cup of coffee. 60° with partly cloudy skies and fog in the lowlands this morning. Heading to 83° with thunderstorms in afternoon. The wind, lightening and rain yesterday left .09" of rain. Not enough to help lawn. In wife's Lily garden I saw a couple mounds of dirt. Thought it was a Mole. Nope, Ant mounds. While checking things out I got bit. Hmm, Fire Ants this far north. Got out some Fire Ant killer that I brought back from TX. Hope it solves the problem. Think I am ready to finish animal barn roof next week when it cools down. Got a roof harness kit from HD that should give me some protection if I should fall. Few things to get done today. Top of list is new garden pond pump. Several little fish swimming around in pond. But to fast too get pictures.
Wngsprd, when we visited a sugarcane plant while in TX. One of the stories they told was about collecting runoff juice and putting it in their hummingbird feeders. It was already starting to ferment when they collected it. Brought hummingbirds into their yards by the hundreds during winter months. We are lucky if we see 1 hummingbird a year at our place.
Good Morning All.

67 degrees, going to be another nice day. Very sore this morning, no wonder considering yesterday.
Work on the high big stuff today, and I wonder why they didn't equip this lift with a safety belt. Nice high sides, hard to imagine falling out but... my helper is a fireman but he isn't indestructible despite his thinking so.
Going to ask him to see if he can pick up a spare safety lanyard at the fire house, likely they have a few for the ladder trucks.

First thing I do is put a new chain on the saw, might cut one small log to let the chain stretch out a little, then will retighten. Not sure how long it takes but all new chains sure do get loose in a hurry. All my old ones were in the to be sharpened pile, which didn't help; now they are at the local feed store where a guy sharpens them in his spare time. Hard to charge enough to make it worthwhile.

Nice 70 out this AM. High to 90 today, looks like no weed whacking today with that heat and humidity. Guess I'll go lounge by the pool. Nice fog settling in over the pastures right now. Makes it nice and spooky. No rain yesterday, lawn looks nice. Still green so for August, that means the watering must be about right.

Have a great day all, be safe.

My to be sharpened pile of chains is much larger than the two I have left. I know how you feel Drew. Stay safe on that bucket.

61.5F and clear @ 06:30, high today is predicted to only be 83F ... the cool down has begun. Supposedly have a better chance today of an afternoon thunderstorm than we did yesterday ... even better chance tomorrow. Went to bed early last night, so up early this morning.

Caught another house sparrow in the trap yesterday and also found the missing shoulder strap for the Stihl FS 66 (over behind the barn ) ... nice to have that back ...

Ran up to Jeff's yesterday and had a look at Zack's progress. They are getting ready to 'crete the enclosed lean-to addition they put on the barn awhile back. There was some question as to whether Jeff was going to hire it completely out or just hire a couple of finishers and do it themselves. I had offered to lend a hand if the latter ... looks like Jeff opted to hire it out ... so I'm off the hook ... :D

Crew is supposedly due in today to lay in and tie the rebar and then do the pour tomorrow. I think it's a 4" pour, around 2800 sq. ft. @ $3.50 per sq. ft. - rebar, concrete, and labor. Probably go up and check it out ... since it's close size-wise to what I'd be looking to do the barn here. Crew of 12 guys. Price seems reasonable to me from what I know of it.

Need to refill bird feeders today, probably put the MMM mower back on kubota and get the front lawns done before it rains so I can stay ahead of the game.

Happy Birthday toppop !

That ZG20 sounds like a nice birthday present if you end up deciding to go orange ...

Talking about hummingbirds, I'm setting on the deck and have two feeders out. One is all most empty and the other one is about half full. There was about 8-10 birds trying to get to the one that's all most empty. And only two birds at the one half full. I think that if they didn't fight a much they wouldn't need to eat as much.

Same thing happens here. I think they LIKE to fight. Or maybe what looks to us like fighting is actually the hummer's way of having fun?:confused3:

Similar here ... I think the most I've ever seen at once has been two ... :(

Saw a funny thing yesterday: a chickadee was trying to figure out how to feed at the hummingbird feeder.

Saw that once before ... only it was a gold finch.

Thanks for the birthday greetings! Spent more time documenting fire losses.
Took mom to doc, diagnosed with moderate dementia. We are having to dispense mess now. She's losing ground very quickly.

Good Morning!!!! 80F @ 4:45AM. Partly cloudy. High 102F. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph.

Many happy returns, Randy! I'd be curious to hear your impressions of how your medical choices and bills change once you're on Medicare. Headed that way myself in a few years and I'm not real comfortable with the idea...

Headed to town to work on the van and get groceries, and while I'm there I'll swing by Home Depot and/or Lowes and see how their price match policies do with a couple of BBQ grill prices I found on the Internet yesterday. I'll still get stuck paying sales tax, but not having to fool with shipping would be worth it. Also have haircut and tire rotation appointments, so it'll be a full day.

It's not unusual at all for hummingbirds to try to use a feeder as I'm trying to hang it, especially the younger birds. With a metabolism like that, and being teenagers, hunger pangs take on a whole new meaning!

Never saw a hummingbird here either until I hung a feeder out, just to see what would happen. Only took a few days before they were fighting over the darn thing, and I was shopping for a couple more. :confused2:

RNG,

I'll be happy to make further feeder investments ... once I see more than two competing for a spot at my single (4 station) feeder ...

65F foggy upper 80's w/more humidity maybe t-storm.

Early call from work this morning saw number critters crossing the road before day light in no hurry...yikes.

Not much plan yet for after work other than watering gardens.

Enjoy the day all.

Good morning all, 67 here now going to 87 with a 30% chance of heavy rain. Got a big, make that long meeting today. Sit around and answer questions that only a bureaucrat could ask. Was once told, don't expect things from the gov. to make sense.
Have a great day all. Ed

68°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 91° today with a chance for some severe storms this evening.

Wife "forced" me to have a date night last night when i got home from work. We went to Olive Garden for dinner, then hung out at the local Barne & Noble for awhile. This is a typical date night for us, but we haven't done it for a while. Sometimes, it's hard being me. :D Picked up a copy of the new Larry Winget book, on which he's promised me a signature if I send it to him. Guess I'll do that this weekend.

Great pictures, Drew. The raised perspective is almost always a satisfying one.

Morning All.

Watching the Hummingbirds fight over premium spots at the feeder make me imagine them as goombah Gangsters. I now hear their chirping as "pew pew pew" machine gun noises...

Now you will also... LOL...
While I work from home waiting for my Pallet Forks to be delivered, I'm making a batch of sauce for them, the feeders are empty.

Be well all,
David

Happy birthday toppop, hope you have many more.

The low this morning was 45*, yesterday high was 94. We did get some dark clouds with gusty winds and few drops of rain. They are calling for 90's to day with some wind.

Not much planned for today. Make a trip to town and I'm still feeding the horses for another neighbor. He is in Denver with health problems. He'll find out today if has to have hart bypass. Hoping the best for him , he is 82.

Hope everyone has a nice day
CWB

61F this morning, headed into 90s again. The smoke in the air is getting miserable after only a few days. It makes for different sunsets though. The sun was red last night as it was setting.

RNG, I can tell you our premiums are $200 per month higher on Medicare than my wife's Blue Cross was.
