On the home front,
the best humidity for a house should be between 35% and 45%.
Mine is 49% now, what is yours?

Depends if you like dry itchy skin and cracked lips, or spanked baby's bottom skin right out of the bathtub and no static shocks. I vote 50-55%.

Nice organ you guys have there. It looks on the video like the keys are all new. Our old organ has old looking keys that have to be pushed relatively hard says our resident Ph.D candidate organist.

Who all has had their flu shot this year?
I got mine in early November...so far, so good.

My wife says she is not going to get one.

Buckeye, glad you are feeling better.

On a side note, I heard the tail end of some news report that somebody had figured out maybe a new way to fight cancer. They said the cancer needs to rob the bloodstream for an enzyme or protein that normal cells can produce on their own. And somehow if they can reduce said enzyme to help fight the cancer. I still pray daily for all the people with cancer. And I pray for their medical staff, the doctors, the scientists and researchers to find more cures to fight this ugly disease.

67°F and no rain last 24 hours
Got a call later afternoon my Tundra is finally ready. Will pick up today.
Anybody with a sure fire rodent control solution?

Be safe
Have a great day

I'm having good luck with the green rat pellets from TSC around the walls of the shop and garage.

Then moth balls on the floor by the tires. I hate that smell though.
So far so good.
I have a shop sitting without movement for a month or two at a time. (I work out on the road) two boats, my pickup, and the tractor have all been ok so far.
I read somewhere that the trick of opening the hood helps keep them out was/is a myth.

/ Good morning!!!! #53,045
Opening the hood works for my in-laws who live in the Ozarks. Frequently pack rats will start nest building in less than 24 hours of car being parked. Cars are not parked in a garage and that may affect results.

If you don't have an allergy to the shot, by all means get one! This year's shot is causing mild flu like symptoms in some people, myself included. That's because it triggers your immune system to form antibodies to the flu. In people with weakened immune systems it can cause low grade fever, chills and aches, usually last 12-36 hours. Most people never have them, I did this year and have 2-3 times in 40 years. The shot is from a killed virus and CANNOT give you the flu. If you get a shot and get the flu within 10-12 days, you were already infected. The nasal spray was a weakened live virus and could indeed cause flu, and did far too often, so this year it's not being used. The shot ranges from 40%-70% effective, depending on the actual strains vs predicted strains, mutation's, the person's immune system, etc... it's far better than no protection. And it's cumulative, the more people getting, the higher the overall % of coverage.

Murph prayers for your mom.

Kyle no flue shot. Got one while wife was getting chemo, then 1 year later while she was recovering from chemo. Don't normally get the flu.

Don house humidity rebounding after the cold spell, back up to 38%.

Roy, speedy recovery with your back!

Happy birthday Farmer!

Drew, just to reassure you, I checked with my Fergie and she confirmed absolutely no offence taken, all good fun. In fact I think she was flattered to hear that you think about her in the middle of the night :D

Well, some days go to plan and others ... Yesterday, my wife unexpectedly (to me) went shopping in the morning, leaving me to stay by the house to wait for a parcel - that never arrived.

After lunch, as I get up to go off cutting trees, she announces she is going out again (surely I hadn't forgotten ?) and I will have to be in because the chimney sweep is coming. Trying to save a bit of time on today's shortest daylight hours, I least got the chainsaw fueled up and ready to go. Next thing I know everything around me is dripping in chain oil. Must have forgot to put the cap on I thought, as I set to wiping up the sticky mess. Refilled and this time made sure the cap went back on.

Then I got a phone call to ask where I wanted to start the next muck pile, as the first trailer of cattle shed clean out was on it's way to me. Jumped into the Subaru to go up and open the top field gate and found it had gone and used up nearly all it's battery on it's now redundant alarm system, leaving the starter motor with only enough energy to emit a pathetic groan. I must have sounded the same.

Rush up on foot and get back just in time for the chimney sweep. Phew. After he finished, I went back into the barn. Picked up the saw for the second time, to put in the canvas bag I have with files, wedges, spare chain etc and next thing I know there is half a tank of oil running down my leg and the other half in the bag, while I stand there, looking in disbelief at the filler cap dangling down on it's little tether cord. :confused3:

Eric, you aren't alone, have ruined at least two good pairs of shoes pouring oil on them somehow, one from a leaking bottle of chain saw lube, just like yours. That sure didn't come out...
Now you'd better tell your wife first before you go throwing that oil soaked pair of pants in the washer. Many of us have found out the hard way the disastrous mating of petroleum products and
ladies frilly things. Not good, not good at all. Enables an expensive shopping trip...

Farmer, happy birthday and I hope everyone with the flu and sniffles gets healthy for Christmas. So you can meet with lots of folks in confined spaces and it starts all over again.
It is amazing how many people still think colds come from the temperature change itself, or going outside without a coat on.
Toppop, you've listened to a doc and I listened to a RN for many years, what is the one thing they tell you? Wash your hands...

34 heading up to low 50's today in warming trend, hopefully a less grey day than yesterday. Had no desire to go out.
off early to get a neck mri and then hope to work in the barn when it gets over 50.

Then I have cranberry orange muffins to bake plus several sheets of xmas cookies. Cheaters, premade, but the little kids who are getting them
asked for them, the ones with the Christmas trees in them. I won't even eat one, more chemicals in them than natural ingredients. You could probably set them out and they'd
still be edible next Christmas...

Most breakfast pastries are pretty bad for you. But give me one of Eric's perfectly made British scones, dense, slight crust, buttery, and compare that to one
of those glazed nightmares in the supermarket. Eric, a big box overnighted shouldn't cost too much, right?
Taking a cruise ship to Bermuda to get some is so time consuming...but I've done it!

You all have a good day. those of you shoveling snow, take it easy. This is a bad season for heart attacks.

/ Good morning!!!! #53,054
Good morning all, 35 here this morning going to 51 and mostly sunny. Have a couple Christmas gifts to deliver and hope to get back to work on the shop. As usual we will see how it goes. We try to keep the humidity here just above 40% but the wife likes it higher.

Eric, except for the saw oil and the battery that sounds like a normal day. I almost never plan what I am going to do just what I am going to aim at. Yesterday we drove 1hr and 15min to visit my Mom and as we walked in the door the boy was ready to go, he was feeling overwhelmed, so we stayed for about 15min and got back n the car and came home. Mom was happy to see us and get her presents and she said the boy smiled at her twice and that was special. To us it was normal.

Have a great day. Ed

/ Good morning!!!! #53,055
When special is normal Ed, life is good.

I need to fire up my humidifier in the bedroom. Forced hot air system, 20% reading in one room.
I don't even use the exhaust fan in the shower any more, using that moisture makes the bedroom feel better promptly.
I also open the dishwasher just after it finishes. That helps the kitchen for a little while.

/ Good morning!!!! #53,056
Good morning all.

I never have had a flu shot. (and he knocks on wood). About 25 out this AM, replaced heater lamps in well pump house last night. Good thing I keep extra bulbs and lamps around. Sigh, not something to do at 11:00PM in the cold, dark night.

More wood splitting today. Maybe venture into woods for some more firewood. Will have to see how I feel after splitting. Everyone have a great day, and be safe.

/ Good morning!!!! #53,057
33 high of 52 later today front comes thru tomorrow and a little cooler

/ Good morning!!!! #53,058
21 going to 52. Nice temps for the winter solstice, a few minutes ago. Days will be getting longer!

Always get the flu shot. Haven't had the flu in many years.

RH showing as 37% on the programmable thermostat. Not sure how accurate. Keep a steamer on top of the woodstove to help a little. Also leave exhaust fan off some days after shower.

I'm in the forgot to screw the bar oil plug back club, too. Fortunately spilled it on the ground and not me and discovered it as I righted the saw after filling.

Walked part of the woods yesterday and flagged a few dead trees that I may cut down and split today. Depends on whether my wife wants me to go with her to complete the last of her shopping list.
