RS it is extremely heavy.
I gathered as much.

The (green) sycamore logs I got last year were somewhere between 42" to 48" in diameter and probably around 10' to 12' long.

They were very heavy ... probably on the order of 5000 to 9000 lbs EACH.

Made me nervous just cutting them up into rounds, with them lying on the ground.

I'm taking a break from thinking.
Good idea ...

Whatever you do, don't screw around ... with the weight that you're dealing with, all it takes is one unforeseen reaction to trying to make a cut or doing something and a damaged backhoe will be the least of your worries.

Good evening all. Madre the drive from TX to MO yesterday with no issues. Got van unloaded last night and back to Mom's @ 10:30 and was plum tuckered. Spinal tap went well, fluid is almost clear. Work went well today mat progress, might get to leave early :). Temps flat today 54F for low 58F for high, heavy overcast and spotty rain. More Alzheimer test tomorror, need to figure when to see grandaughter and Mom.

It's easy to underestimate the weight of a log. I've seen some pretty big tractors get tippy trying to move a big log. I saw a bobcat go nose first trying to pick up a big hunk of oak.

Jerry, great news about your retirement...such a feeling of freedom, right?

Don, glad you're taking this project slow and steady. That was a sad accident - I'm sure it happened so fast...and his wife must have been devastated.

One problem solved. I called the tree man and sent him pics, he will be here tomorrow.

Another problem. My tractor battery is 5 years old, I was clearing the trees on the front road and stopped the tractor to watch a calf chasing Whipper. It would not start. Got the truck and jump started it, nothing when I first turned the key and the second time it fired up. I got it back to the house. turned it off turned it on and it started right up. second try failed - nothing.

I checked the battery with the vold meter it read 12.96v
I put the battery charger on it and it says charged.
Still nothing when I turn the key, lights and flashers do not come on and are not even dim.

Could it still be a bad battery? Or is there an electrical problem?

Check your grounds then battery cables before you tear into it.

Don. Probably the best call on tree. Especially if not comfortable with it.

On the battery. Check cable connections and ground. Then use a load tester to check battery. A battery may show ok with a volt meter but actually be bad. A load tester will sniff those out.

I just went out and tuned the ignition on - nothing.

I turned the light knob on and off nothing.

I turned the ignition on and it started, 5 times

The battery shows 12.87v and I put the battery charger on and it is now charging.

Grounding cable to battery and frame tight.

I'm confused.

The electronic dash comes on every time now when I turn the key to on, before it did not and it would not crank.

Possibly a little "hitch" in the ignition switch.

Mine recently developed one of those itself ... I'll probably have to replace it in the not too distant future.

"hitch" in the ignition switch.
RS that sounds like it. I hope it is finished with it's hick-ups. Thanks.

Don, all good advice on the starting issues, one more possibility, check the starter relay. Depending on how it's wired, those symptoms could be relay related.

Wow, lots happening in the last few days on here. Don, hope you get that tree off soon.

We are having a thunder
/lightening storm now. Had a few high wind gusts.

I was mowing out back this afternoon when I heard a heck of a roar from the airport, no mistaking radial engines. I stopped the ZTR and looked toward the airport, coming over the trees, in wingman formation were an F4 U Corsair, and the first P 47 Thunderbolt I've seen since the 60's! They rumbled off to the south and disappeared, I just sat there in awe, wow! I get to see modern military aircraft a lot, they use this airport for training, and a few times a year, a B-25 or two, and some WWII trainers come through, but these two warbirds were a special treat.

What does it look like and where is it located?

I did see a mouse crawling up the loader arm last week when I was moving dirt. I haven't been able to see a nest.

I don't know where it is on that tractor, usually a square plug in affair. Dealer or one of these guys with the same machine can tell you.

I just googled it and it kind of looks like the back of the ignition switch.

I don't know Don, if it was a car or truck I'd be able to help more. Sorry, I just know they can fail and cause the problems you describe. Although the loose wires, bad ignition switch and all that, are usually the first things to check.

Good morning. This is the best start to a morning in a long while, although clouds do look to be bubbling up on the horizon. I even sat outside soaking up the sun for a while after doing my rounds of the sheep, waiting for Max to catch me up. He didn't want to come in, the trails left behind by numerous rabbits, many still visible in the dew on the grass, were far more appealing than a boring house.

Welcome to Good morning yankeerider. 37 years of working with the same company is quite remarkable nowadays, this must be an abrupt change for you. When I worked full time, I seemed to have some spare time in the evenings and most weekends to play around. Now I have semi-retired, I loose track of which day of the week it is and have almost forgotten what a leasurely weekend is like, there is almost always something that needs doing. I confess I am scared of retiring fully in case I find I then have no spare time at all :) . I hope you are enjoying your new lifestyle and can look forward to the next 37 years with your new boss.
