300U guy is correct about the power outage in Lansing...my nephews lost power for 9 days as well as many others. Tree damages here were mainly to the cedars and box elders and silver maples, one of the box elders is 80 feet tall and it took me about 10 hours just to clean up the branches and debris from that one alone...

Hey Guys!

Had some fog here this morning. Yesterday had to turn on the AC (Thank God it worked) for the first time this year. Now the windows are all open though.

AC will be on again today I am sure.

Last night as I was stepping out to uncover the Harley and ride to my daughter's concert, a sport bike rode down my driveway hill and I got served my divorce papers. Wait until her Lawyer and she learn I've been laid off...

My daughter played her violin very well at the concert.

I've started re-arranging the basement as I put it back together and it is ready for air hockey and movie watching now (Woo Hoo!).

Be well all and God Bless.

68F and no rain last 24

Pressure washed all day yesterday, a bit of clean up today. Looks really good even if I didn't get it all done.

Off to Hilo town for a couple of errands, an important one being a stop at local brewery to replenish my empties, but after breakfast with wife.

More odds and ends cleanup tasks this afternoon, still one area left to mow.

Be safe
Have a great day

Eastern white pine commonly shed branches under heavy wet snow and/or ice. The tree growing in the open is probably a little tougher (developed stronger limbs) than those in the row, but I've seen some breakage on open field trees too.

You can minimize the breakage and grow good saw logs by trimming off branches (at the trunk) from the ground up to one-third of the tree's height as they grow. Pine should be pruned very close to the trunk leaving no collar. Leaving a collar results in "black" knots. Tight red knots are okay, loose black knots cause the sawn lumber to be down-graded.

White pine trees can be aged easily; each ring of limbs on the trunk with empty space between the next ring of limbs is one year of growth. The length of that empty space on the trunk is a good way to gauge what kind of growing seasons the tree has had over the years. If the main trunk leader is split into two leaders, it is usually caused by pine beetles killing off the tip of the original single leader. Multiple beetle attacks over the years cause multiple split leaders.

Don't know if any of that is useful info. It won't make the downed limbs jump into your FEL bucket. :)

72 degrees here and overcast, the GF and I got her established as a member of my local credit union this morning, we were almost through the process and the machine that prints the ATM cards jammed up and it took them nearly 35 minutes to correct the problem, in the meantime the staff was super courteous and trying to expedite the fix for the problem, I have nothing but praise for the service we get there. Love our credit union, but I HATE BANKS....HATE THEM WITH A PASSION!!!! Enough bitching. Going to take my beloved kitties out to roam for a while. Catch you later on.

Thunderstorm just drove me inside. I did get the hen house/chicken tractor moved and the pen up as well as going and getting some sand for their dust baths.

Good Evening. 1825, partly cloudy, 78F with 78% humidity. Forecast low of 66F tonight, and a high of 84F tomorrow. Only 14% chance of rain tomorrow, but the wedding people have church pews set up outside, so they are still worried.

I worked in the garden again this morning, getting my bush beans and the other melons side dressed. Also worked the pink eyed purple hulls and sweet corn with my new stirrup hoe. I really like it. Wish I had bought one years ago. Had to replace two beefsteak tomato plants that were dead. The replacements are taller than the ones that died.
