Good morning!!!!

Before YouTube came along, we all suspected there were really stupid "experts" out there. Now with all those videos on line, our suspicions have been confirmed! Another reason they should have called it You Boob...

You have to learn to separate the wheat from the chaff, that is for sure. But there is some really smart folks taking the time to teach less smart folks. I love watching Reallybigmonkey1. He always has some interesting gadget he has built in his shop to make camping easier.

I get a kick out of them going on and on about "fatwood." Being from the south, I have always used lighterd to start fires. I didn't even know it was fatwood. If those guys could see some of the 12' lightered stumps we have, or the piles of split lighterd, they would be in bushcrafting heaven. I have seen a guy talk for 20 minutes about a foot long piece of "fatwood" like he had found a gold nugget.

I got out yesterday just before dark to clean up storm debris. In the old days I would have called it picking up limbs. But since You Tube has taught me that I'm a bush-crafter, I know now what I was doing was "processing firewood." And the little limbs that are so heavy with Spanish moss they break four times before you get them in the truck. Those used to be a major pain in the butt. But now I know that is "tender", the most prized of bush-craft possessions. I should go on You Tube and offer to sell it to the poor souls who wonder in the woods for hours {with camera rolling} searching for suitable tender. Dried of course. Last night when I started the campfire with my fire steel, I had to use a little dryer lint to get my rain dampened tender to catch:eek:

Oh I got in trouble last summer on our visit to Florida. My wife asked what was in all the trees. I said something about that's what's left after the water recedes. We don't need to stay around here, water gets too high. She was buying it until she noticed it was above the power lines. I tried to convince her that was left from the last hurricane but it didn't work. Finally had to admit that it was Spanish moss and that's where it grows.

Of course I'm the one that when driving and they have the orange aircraft balls on the power lines that'll make a comment about getting out of there quick. Because the water gets high enough they have to float the power lines. Yes I get some dirty looks now. But had her going for a bit.

Not as good as my dad did to my sister. She had her license before she figured out that the yellow lines on the road are painted on and don't just bleed through from the previous layer once the sun comes out. And she's a pharmacist now. We're in trouble.

That's pretty good. You must come from a long line of jesters. Margie is trying to pull my leg so often that I don't believe her when she is not joking. It works for her because she doesn't lie, so you expect what she's saying to be true.

49 mph gusts, but no property damage, yeah.
Headed down to the river for dinner, will take my camera, should be interesting.

Hey guys, you guys are hard to keep up with. We had heavy rain and wind yesterday, but lucky for us we escaped any major damage.

Kev, of course that guy remembered you. You are hard to forget! Lol....just kidding. I like the idea for the tank. That 6 gallon can does get heavy.

Later guys

Alarm system tested today and all zones/devices will set off the system if breached/triggered.

Ran out today to pick up some target loads at Dicks and grabbed two boxes ... also grabbed another siren while I was out ... nasty little bugger.

I'm sure the neighbors won't like it if they all get triggered ... but oh well ...

Yes this forum thread is a lot busier than the CTT model train thread but there is a lot more things of interest here than just the trains there. Not to say I don't like my trains but got lots of other stuff going on just like most here.

Well I did not say he worked for me John, so that helped. During a layoff from Cat I was the plant manager for the FS facility that he ran his bulk fuel truck out of. I had the fertilizer side and the plant. He had the fuel sales and delivery side. I hope he can find something for me.
Going down to 26 tonight, 40 tomorrow and 60 by Sunday, :)
That weather you guys on the east coast had is not normal for there.

We came out of the storm ok, river is flooded today, way out of it's banks. Power came back on in the night sometime. Never did get the genny out., just went to bed a lot earlier. Noticed the house across the road has a noisy generator now. Maybe will have to do a whole house one sometime. Had one LED light in the house die, and one of my LED flood lights not working, probably a casualty. The first outage kicked 2 breakers off. Also kicked off one GFI outlet string in the kitchen.

KevT, hope your upcoming Ohio trip goes well. One of my brothers works near Walnut Creek. Some good food up there, like Der Dutchman and the Amish Door.

Sounds like everyone from TBN has made it safely through the storms thus far.

Anyone hear anything from Don ?

30 degrees right now and we got a dusting of snow last night.
My field and about 25% of the lawn area look like ponds right now...as the high today is only going to be about the mid-20's and tonight will drop to single digits, I expect I'll have a couple nice skating rinks this time tomorrow.

Have to go in this morning for glucose monitor to be installed for weekend very uncomfortable to say the least not looking forward to weekend of no sleep. Suppose that's why I'm up now worrying about this but it's my own fault not checking my sugar level enough. You would think I would learn

Kev FTN & John, we can do trains too - occasionally :)

Last night I turned on the tv for the last few minutes of the local news and there were pictures of the iconic Flying Scotsman, back on the rails after a rebuild that has taken 10 years.

scotsman.jpg

When I was a child this steam train featured in many publications, including the small cards that we were encouraged to collect that came with a diverse range of consumables, such as cigarettes and packets of tea. We learned from these that it was green and fast. Very, very fast, it made 100mph way back in the 1930's.

Good morning. No frost today and even though the weak sun is hiding behind a veil of thin cloud, it did a good job of enticing me to come outside.

Picked up the FS90R brush cutter yesterday afternoon. The wayward vegetation could be in for a shock later today. There are lots of Stihl outlets around here, although I travelled a bit further to the Kubota dealer that impressed me when I was looking for my compact, even though I didn't buy from them. Again their staff were friendly and polite, with the machine unpacked, assembled, fueled up and tested and all raring to go.

On the way back my wife pulled in to a garden centre so she could pick up some bags of gravel for the raised bed for her herbs (Drew, I reckon you must have sent her a PM or something, too much of a coincidence following on from your picture !). The crazy thing is, I have 20 ton of 6-14mm crushed granite coming this afternoon to spread up the side of the old bull pen, but my offer to donate a bucket or two to the herbs was frowned upon :confused3:

38 going to 48 today, much cooler, more seasonal.
totally delighted that not much debris came down in storm.
So I have time to go plant some new fruit trees, two Mutsu apples (never heard of them...) two
Montmorency sour cherries and one more sour cherry. Without netting the tree unlikely to get many cherries but
might get lucky. Plus one more Redhaven peach. Actually...don't think my shoulder is going to allow me much digging today. Need to go to get more bags of drainage rock for the garden and not looking forward to that at all. Eric, come along for the ride...;) Maybe I'll wait until Monday, dry weather here through middle of next week.

Went to HF yesterday and picked up several different kinds of gear/pulley pullers and hope to make something that will work to get the frozen steering wheel off my 1968 Cub Cadet. The homebrew method posted online didn't work. And I saw that nice aluminum floor jack there for 60 bucks and couldn't resist. I have an ancient cheap steel jack that I just don't feel is very safe/reliable, an early gen HF special..., so this new jack should add some safety. Plus it's a good bit lighter.
And I picked up yet another free 1x25' measuring tape, the big thick cheap ones they give away free as enticements. I think I have three of them now.

TxDon, c'mon back. Want to make sure you're not stuck down in some arroyo.

30 going to 46 and sunny/windy - another day to dry out.

Hope Don is okay.

Need to pour second cup of coffee. 57° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 86° with plenty of sun. Should be a good day to take wife to a craft fair in a nearby town. My neighbor back home in MI. sent me pictures of the +12" snow fall from Wednesdays storm. Looks nice. But I will keep the 80° temperatures here in AZ.
