Do you have a picture of the tank or a web site where one can view what you purchased Drew?

No...other than the tank is single wall, NC made, steel, and allegedly identical to the one in the Northern Tools catalog, or identical to all the other 275 gallon
oblong tanks on four legs. I asked for a 12V pump, not high volume, an automatic nozzle and inline fuel filter. It will be IDI US made and likely a Goldenrod filter.
Not sure what nozzle they will provide. I think the whole setup put together is about 950 bucks. He quoted 650 for the tank which is reasonable, though it comes
primed, not painted. That I will have to do but no big deal.

I'll confirm the details. They are pretty much the only game in town locally and they aren't all that local either.

Good Morning. 0720, sunny, 42F with 97% humidity. Forecast high of 66F with no chance of rain today, and a low of 40F tonight. A little cooler today, but we will have some low 70's by the weekend. Today is my house cleaning day, but Margie is not feeling well and getting a late start this morning, so I'm trying to be quiet and let her rest. I'll start on the clothes washing as soon as she rolls out. If the cleaning lady wasn't coming today, and this wasn't such a hectic time at her office, I'm sure she would stay home.

I want to plant a few more seeds today or tomorrow. Got my fist sprouts from the yellow pear tomato yesterday. I love this time of year.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

Wood based compost makes a great ground cover for your garden. Keeps the soil cooler and helps with water retention as well as the actual nutrients when it rots. Most people just use wood chips though.

That is just it. She is not using it as mulch, she digs trenches, buries it, and grows on top of it. I on the other hand am using the wasted hay from the animals, you know the messy matted stuff filled with poop in my furrows to keep weeds down, the ground fertilized, and help hold moisture in the mounds. Plus it composts quickly. It amazes me that after a couple of years of having a garden how much richer the soil there looks than the pastures that get chemical fertilizer and dolomite, and what comes out of the animals while grazing. FYI I read somewhere that the average horse the size of my Draft lets go of 80 pounds of fertilizer a day. WOW!!!

32 this morning and headed to 40 today. Never made it above 35 yesterday. Rain, snow, rain, snow, then heavy snow. Just under 2" additional accumulated. County to the north had a bus slide off trying to get kids home yesterday afternoon, no injuries. County to the west called parents and told them to come to school to pickup their kids. As busses weren't moving. The clipper that delivered the snow was supposed to change completely over to rain and it didn't. Schools are out again today. Wife's home.

Plans for today are chickens and taxes. Calf in barn needs another bale of hay. So will do that at this afternoons feeding. Also need to get him an appointment with the slaughterhouse. I'm thinking June and we'll all be ready.

Kev interesting about that garden system. Some people want logs to grow mushrooms in also.

Good Morning! 62F @ 7:15 AM. Rain showers early then thundershowers for the afternoon. High 64F. Winds SSE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

It's sprinkling now, with winds gusting to 20 MPH, increasing over the day. More rain on the way 'till Saturday, for about an inch and a quarter total. Better than nothing, but with the total accumulations drifting back to below normal, we could use a LOT more.

Glad I waited a day on the burn pile. The breeze was from the east, perfect for keeping the heated air out of the tree line, and it was a little cooler to boot. Still had to use a garden hose to keep the flames damped down a bit; the slash in the pile was a year old and very dry. Once it was down to coals I used the forks on the front of the tractor to move the newer slash into the pit and it flared mightily, something about those live oak leaves is very combustible. A real brush rake would have been better, as the fork tines would let a branch slip and drag on the ground, where it caught under the front wheels and pulled the rest of the load off. Took a good upper body workout to get the mess cleaned up, but I could use the exercise. That was three rows of 75' each, all from just one tree. Then I fished some six foot pine logs out of a pile and threw those in, hopefully before the bark beetles had decided to depart. Stacked them around the remains of the stump and they took right off in the coals. Toward the end of the day I used the forks to stir things up and managed to break the stump out of the ground in the process, which was the whole point in putting the pile where it was. By then things were down to a smoulder and I left them that way; I'll see what's left when I go up to check the mail later.

Yesterday's ignition switch repair held up through many restarts, so I guess I can call that one fixed.

Earlier I recounted how one of our campers had been awakened by a coyote tugging on his blanket and sock, and this news story may hold the reason. Couldn't have been the fly agaric mushrooms, as the desert in Death Valley is way too dry, but maybe peyote buttons?

Happy Hump Day!

275 g fuel tanks can be obtained from most any plumbing supply house. I have 2 I no longer use.

I think the reporter was sampling some Medicinal Cheese Quake. We have had cows eat mushrooms, but not sure if a coyote would eat peyote buttons. Isn't there thorns involved in that?

Sister and BIL have grown mushrooms in logs before. You just drill holes in the log and seal the spores in with a little wax. {not the same kind of mushrooms those Cali coyotes are eating. To grow them you just need some grain fed manure}

26 going to 44 and sunny...a solid winter day. I let the wood stove go out on that warm day, but need to go clean it and get it cranking again, even though I see some 60s for the weekend.

Don, I have a small drum coffee roaster...roasts a half pound, so I usually do 2 or 3 roasts back to back.

The paving and yard are tricky to negotiate this morning as the rain continued well into the night, followed by a sharp frost.

Before winter is over I want to make a start on some overgrown vegetation around a piece of wetland that has got out of hand over these last few years. The cheap brush cutter I bought after my Honda was stolen is not up to the task. The Honda was much more capable but vibrated far too much. In a way the thieves did me a favour as I would otherwise have still have been shaking myself apart with it.

Stihl dominate this market locally and have an almost overwhelming selection to choose from. I started looking at different models last year and at the time was tempted by the Kombi machines, however the tradeoff is that they will take only the smaller grass cutting metal discs and most on tbn thought the optional finger cutter bars were a little heavy and/or not suitable for large areas. I'm thinking now of going for a more standard model. The light weight of the 2 stroke FS94 R looked good on paper, however it seems it only takes the smaller cutting discs. Now I'm more inclined towards the FS90 R, as it will take the 10" 3 blade cutters. The weight of this model put me off this as first, then yesterday I put my nasty cheap brush cutter on the scales and found the Stihl is 4 lbs lighter, so should be ok - unless anyone has any bad stories about them.

Eric, I've been real pleased with my Stihl FS-80 with the straight handle bars...had it 10-15 years and it's always started by second pull (unlike a certain splitter I know)...I've used it with a couple of different type blades on lots of 1.5 inch (4cm) and occasionally 2 inch brush as well as the string trimmer.
