Good Morning! 50F @ 6:00 AM. A steady rain this morning. Showers continuing this afternoon. High 51F. S winds shifting to N at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall around a quarter of an inch.

"Steady rain" and only a quarter inch of accumulation? This storm is turning out to be all blow and no show. Sure is rattling the roof and windows right now.

Irv, hope that hand heals quickly. Same with your foot, Kev.

Finished one carb yesterday, got the other one cleaned and will finish it today. Spent a few hours rubbing runs off the big red tank, but didn't get to buffing. These short days sure make outside work hard to get to.

Covered the campfire wood pile with a couple of give away tarps from Harbor Freight just as the sun was going down last night. That after I finished loading enough wood for a nice fire. One of those pieces had a rider; one of the biggest fence lizards I've seen. Moving a bit slow due to the temperatures, but he wasted no time getting back to his pile when I lowered the wood close enough. Sure hope he appreciates his new roof!

Also now looking at gas stoves.

This house had a "gas fireplace appliance" when I bought it. The flames behind the glass weren't much of a show and it didn't put out any heat at all. Pretty much a waste of propane. The wood stove that replaced it ran about $3500, with extra for the flue and installation, but it'll pay for itself in just a few years. If you don't count my labor for cutting the wood, that is.

Eric, do they have a shot for that man-flu? Maybe something like this.

No sign of man-flu around here, Larro. Maybe that's because I get regular vaccinations?

I'm wanting something to carry here on the farm. A snake gun that doubles as a varmint and predictor gun. Something quick to grab and not a long gun. I have those. Looking at stainless steel also.

Might look at the Taurus Judge, a 5 shot revolver that's chambered for .410 shotgun shell / .45 Colt. Gives you tremendous flexibility. Here's a bench review of the gun http://youtu.be/qRlry5KH6I0 and manufacturers site Taurus 4510PLYFS Revolver | .410 GA. / .45 LC 5 Rounds Stainless Steel Cylinder

Wicked!!

I want a judge. Been looking at it for awhile.

I was thinking maybe a plastic Glock; do you need such a big round? Wouldn't a little lighter gun be easier to haul around?
Put a high power round in a 9mm, kind of like horse power under the hood, how much do you need?

update. wow, I watched that video. All I want for Christmas is a Judge with PDX1's...;)

Farmer, I was going to suggest the same thing to you, or "Bond" also makes a sweet little derringer that is 45LC/410 Think it is called The Snake Slayer

Drew, have you ever tried to shoot a snake with a hard bullet? 410 for snakes, 45 for mammal type varmints.

Good afternoon, guys. Spouse and I went shopping at the local Sams Club to stock up for the upcoming next few days. Overdid it with the shovel throwing heart attack snow (the wet and heavy stuff) and messed up my left shoulder...think it's a rotary (laughing here) cuff injury. Good thing is I am right handed so it will not prevent me from shoveling in the grub. Have a good one, all....

You people have all the fun ! In the UK the only ones who get to use short barrelled guns with shot loads tend to use them for robbing banks. That's mostly to do with our firearms laws, maybe also that we don't have many snakes.

When I was in my early teens, I blew several weeks pocket money on a book called the 1970 Gun Digest. It resurfaced not long ago, slightly the worse for wear by the number of times I had read it over the years. It is now sitting on the corner of my desk. There is an article in there on Shot Loads For Revolvers. That has lots of options for standard calibre handguns, although I wonder how close you need to be for them to be effective. I can't imagine an upset snake that has escaped through a hole in the pattern would always give time for a second shot.

Good afternoon! 66˚ cloudy, Working on bending the trailer wall straight but it's not working. I think I need heat, which I don't have. It sure did not need heat to bend though . . .
300uguy - I have a few coyotes that you can sic on that big dog.
Ron, speaking of coyotes, there were asking if Muffin will be spending the night.:D

44F with some clouds @ 14:00 ...

Made the run last evening to a little pet store down in the next little community below us, as the woman came up empty on her efforts (both places she stopped at were out of Danios) Judging from the reaction of The Little Squeak, could be the best $3 I've ever spent ... she sat there fascinated in front of the tank for probably 10 minutes straight when she noticed the fish in there. Pretty good for a kitten whose attention span is measured in seconds ...

Today was trash day, so I hauled the cans up to the road on my way out yesterday ... got to go retrieve them (and the mail) here in a little bit.

Disassembled door knob on front door and lubed it up last night (I had previously tightened it because someone had complained it was loose ... and then complained after I tightened it that it was too tight ...)

Tried heating up the aquarium frame in the bath tub ... that didn't fly ... it's just too far off from the correct size. Called Aqueon/All Glass directly and spoke to a CSR ... looks like they don't have anything that will fit something that old. Found out that the glass I have is way thicker (3/8") than what is commonly used today. Best solution I can come up with is to silicone in a 2" wide x 3/8" thick piece of tempered glass at the top as a cross-brace, and then just silicone on the black plastic trim on top. Should work fine.

Spent some more time last evening scraping off mineral deposits off the glass on the 55g with a razor blade ... tough stuff ... leaving it on there as long as I did probably didn't help matters either.

Think I have most of the styro for the background carved up at this point ... just need to figure out the approach I'm going to take as far as construction/assembly.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable and productive day.

... RS, don't go there... trust me. Pick your battles and that one isn't worth it. I guarantee every home in America has one of those drawers.
Kev,

My objection isn't to our home having one of those drawers ... it's to the apparent need to have every single drawer in the house be like that ...

;)

Good luck at the auction.

Good afternoon all. 46F this morning and mostly clear, light breeze. Clouding up now, forecast for 62F and mostly cloudy this afternoon. Wind has been picking up, fairly breezy next few days. Cleaned kitchen and mulched leaves on lawn, packed for tomorrows trip and bike ride.

Thanks to all for the good wishes. The hand is getting better. For the record, most of my typing is one hand, or rather one finger at a time...:)

The dog was brought to my wife as he had already bitten another groomer. I was trying to help her put a muzzle on it, when it bit me. It is some kind of German Weimeramer cross. Nutty dog, I think it is going to be put down. It wasn't in our shop 5 minutes before it bit me. It's lucky that it bit a 60 year old man with rather large hands. If it bit a small child, it could do some very serious damage. I don't know anything about the dog's history, but it probably wasn't very pleasant.

I'll be back at things pretty quick. My hand is swollen up pretty good, but that should go away in a few days. Btw, having holes punched in your hand hurts. The crushing of you hand hurts a whole lot more. It's like having your hand in a vise.

I feel your pain, bro. My wife has what I call flat surface disease. We bought a beautiful wood side table years ago. A couple years later I remarked that I could have saved a lot of money - a couple cinder blocks, and a piece of plywood would have worked just as good - the table was completely cover in knick nacks and assorted "stuff". She really didn't like that comment, especially as her mother agreed with me!

Tables, spare beds....not enough room to set 1 more dime on them....and we have 2 of those drawers at least.

Safe travels Ron.

300, did you slug the dog back? That's what those smaller souvenir bats they give out are for. Hope your hand gets better.

RNG, sounds like you're getting close on your beemer.

Anyone from up north ever have a Point Special Lager beer? From Stevens Point Brewery in Wisconsin. Good stuff main.
