A muggy day here & 85F.

We had lightning and showers here overnight but the only damage was some broken over delphinium stalks. It was good to get the rain, 3" in an hour would be a problem, but we could use all 3".

I took a raincheck on the chainsaw. {I did get fresh gas tonight when I was in town} Instead I went down to the pond for a while. Saw lots of wildlife. But not all of it warm and fuzzy. Well, most likely warm.

038.jpg048.jpg056.jpg

Fox squirrel came running down the road toward me. I stopped and got out my camera. He stopped and checked me out for a couple of minutes before leaving the road. When I got to the turnoff to the pond, I saw buzzards up at the crossroads. Drove on up and found a dead boar hog. All you can eat breakfast buffet? As long as you like pork. Then down at the pond, the African cattle egrets were thick.

RNG, the lily pads bloom at 1100. Or at least they were today. I was happy to see seed balls on almost all the cypress trees. That means if 15 or 20 years I will have a true cypress pond.

Roy, sorry for the loss.

Drew, get lots of wrecks at a bridge below my house. Helicopters sometimes land at the neighbors, other times they ambulance them a little down the road to the helicopter. About once per year. It's usually cement haulers that crash. plant just down the road and they drive too fast on a curvy road. The last 2 weeks they have been cleaning out the entire creek of cement residue from all the crashes.

My wife made an excellent supper tonight, smoked sausage, potatoes, onions, green beans, baked in olive oil with some salt and pepper. Very good. She found the receipe on the internet.

Rain showers came unexpectedly early yesterday, spoiling the chance of hay baling. Dark clouds around again this morning, we could be off to a similar start.

I will have to make an effort today to go shopping today. It is always a struggle to find the right present for a wife who says she wants nothing. Perhaps this year I should look further than the machinery section of the local farm shop :)

Had to play marine urologist boat motor's pee hole was not passing water. Wasp nest again :( . All cleaned out and plenty of water shooting out now.

:)

Your unblocking skills for small holes reminded me about the keyhole in our kitchen door. Last year masonry bees filled the hole with their special cement. This year they have seized the entire lock.

74 now going to 92 with a feel like of 106 and add 60% chance. I guess summer is here. We had a nice rain here yesterday, came down hard (monsoon) for about an hour, then had a nice steady rain for about 4 hours. I jumped on the mower and got the front easement, driveway, and front yard done till the rain chased me inside.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 66° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 77° with lots of sunshine. Fence did not get repaired yesterday. My Aunt in town had a water leak. Spent the afternoon replacing a water line that had cracked last winter because it had not been drained for the winter. Fence project is back on the list today.
Eric, Wife says she wants nothing. Don't go that route. Do not ask how I know. Our local farm store has a nice ladies clothes department.
Good Morning All.

79 degrees already, going to 96 with a heat index of 108 today.
I have some watering to do but otherwise I'm staying inside.
last day for goofy pills, hand is getting better.
Spoke to primary doc yesterday, said to come in today, get my epi pen scrip, they have a coupon and they
think I will have zero copay. Free. I'll let you know how that works out.

Eric gift certificate to the local women's shoe store. A rare woman who can't find space for another pair of shoes...:D

74 on to 92 with 50% chance of storms this morning.

Eric, I'm with Drew on the gift idea.

We met one of our sons and his girlfriend for lunch yesterday in Midlothian...they had just come up from NC to pick out a new puppy - a cute boxer.

Picked up a new steering spindle, but still haven't figured how to "shrink" the hub so that the bearing will fit tight. The guy at the John Deere parts counter said to just buy a new wheel for $88 but I said I hadn't given up, but might be back.

Good Morning. 0605, clear, 77F with 96% humidity. Forecast high of 91F with 50% chance of thunderstorms today, and a low of 77F tonight. It says on Weatherunderground that it is going to be cooler than yesterday, but we are still under a heat advisory. Must be summertime.

Our best chance of rain is at 1600, but I'm going to go ahead and transplant this morning anyway. All the young cucumber plants I put out last week got toasted. I'm going to dig the holes out deeper, mixing in the little bit of 13-13-13 better in case that had anything with their demise. Then part of my Uncle Timmy duties include taking the little one to the creek camp for her daily swim. I would like to get down there first with the chainsaw, just to see how big this oak across the road is before we hoof it.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

Good morning, 72F heading to 79F with a chance of rain this afternoon. Heading to the dentist after work for a cleaning and then I am finally getting around to the John Deere B, going to raise the front end up and finally get the ATF poured into the cylinders.
Eric a gift card to any place she likes is better than nothing.;)

I have used a Devcon Metal/Plastic product to fill in a loose bearing pocket. Amazon and Grainger carry these products.

Good morning! 75˚ heading to the high nineties. No work except tractor or mower work this afternoon. Clear skies, getting very dry.

I saw a new snake yesterday evening. A western ribbon snake. It had two thin lime green stripes on either side. Whipper ran right past him - but then she is on snake patrol vacation during the dog days of Summer.

I'm collecting medical bills since our vacation. Luckily I took out travel insurance and they are suppose to reimburse us what our insurance does not cover. With our high deductible and 80% coverage I'm sure the 10K limit will be easily met. My darling wife broke her wrist (really bad - surgery/plates screws etc…) on the first day of a 7 day 40th Anniversary cruise in one of the lounges multi level steps. The step was around a curved booth and she was looking ?? - not down. She doesn't drink so no excuse there. Although the trip did not have to be interrupted it was more like a slooooow ambulance ride back. She had to wait for the swelling to go down before they went in to set the bones. Her hand looks like Drew's and I have all the cooking duties and half the cleaning duties because she cannot grasp with her dominate hand. She should be good to go in about a year. This first month has been one of transitions. I have ordered a one handed cutting board with an attached knife and an under the counter jar lid unscrewer. The one handed can opener (as seen on TV) but it only work for about 4 cans and stopped.???? She has gotten out of all mowing duties because two hands are needed on her Z mower. She is coping well, tough girl, but she is still mad at herself for tripping.

75 this morning and headed to 85 today. Lower humidity for the next couple of days. 1.63 inches of rain last night. Very foggy this morning.

Have a guy back helping me today. Going to try to get some of the heavy lifting done while he's here. I have 5,000 lbs of salt to spread. New litter tomorrow. Sawdust again. I hate that stuff. Couldn't get rice hulls. Which also means I have to move the Tedder back out here just to spread litter. My custom box blade is sweat on rice hulls but unless it's pure sawdust it won't flow out of the box. Windrow and spread with a Tedder.

Got the numbers in on the litter haul. Just short of 850 tons. Only problem is wife is already eyeing the check

TXDon, sorry about the wife's broken wrist. Years ago I got one of these jar openers for my Mom: Amazon.com: Black & Decker Lids Off Jar Opener Jw275: Electric Can Openers: Kitchen & Dining because she didn't have the strength to open jars. It still works. I see they also have a model that has an included can opener too.

Gloomy day, maybe some passing t-storms this afternoon and low 80's.

Worked at the firehouse last evening sweeping, pulling weeds around the outside of the building, gathering the trash to put out with mine today.

I have a few trim boards ready to stain and I finally picked up a can of stain at the lumber yard yesterday. The rock picking and digging in the field is pretty much done, of course there will never be a time that I can't find a stone to pick up or a rock to go after with the backhoe. :) I need to get going on some other stuff around here.

Don, I hope your wife heals quickly, sorry that happened to her.
Farmer, what is the salt for?

off to mow for a couple of hours before it's too hot out, then will mow the orchard in the Kubota.
Then in for the rest of the day.

Thanks Dave, that is exactly what she needs, I'll get it for her if the under the counter one does not work. The one you linked to only is a jar opener, do you have a link to the one that is a jar and can opener - now that would be perfect. She can't hold a can and push the lever down to start the opening cut at the same time.

This is the cutting board I ordered:
Amazon.com: Combo Cutting Board: Health & Personal Care

If anyone else runs across any nifty one handed devices please post. This will be a long heal. Thanks.

73F @ 6:30AM. Partly cloudy. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 97F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph.

Larro, those are beautiful water lilies. Now you know when and where to take a nice lunch break. ;) But I'd pass on the pork if I were you.

Thomas, the deer here ate everything. Finally I started putting out plants as they came from the nursery until I found some that they left alone. Sage, rosemary, lavender so far, and now it's planted all over the place.

Don, hope your wife has a speedy recovery. Perhaps hiring a maid to come in a couple times a month would help?

Picked up a new steering spindle, but still haven't figured how to "shrink" the hub so that the bearing will fit tight. The guy at the John Deere parts counter said to just buy a new wheel for $88 but I said I hadn't given up, but might be back.

What about running a weld bead around the outside of the bearing housing? Maybe start with just a few dots evenly spaced around the circumference and see how much shrinkage you get, then add more if it's not enough. Otherwise Loctite Stud & Bearing Mount might work, it's the red stuff.

Headed out for a week of motorcycling, turning around in Billings, MT at a rally. The planned route sticks to secondary roads and avoids freeways, and should get me there in three days. I'll hang around long enough to meet some friends and do laundry, then head back on a different track.

Have a terrific Tuesday gang!
