Good morning tractor drivers and Happy 4th of July!!

It's been HOTTER then bejesus around here the last few days. It was 106° here yesterday. I have lived here for 28 years and I can't recall it ever getting this hot for more then a day or two, it's been near or busting the 100° mark for a couple of weeks now.

I hope you all have a fun and safe 4th!

If it ever got that hot here, people would be dying by the hundreds, if not thousands. I suspect a lot of our infrastructure would fail, it isn't designed to get that hot.

70* here but very humid.

Cleaned the riding mower deck in preparation for a new belt, which I will get next week since the dealer was closed today.

Used the forks on the FEL and pushed the poison Ivy covered tree back against the tree line on the road right of way. Yesterday I had cut some of the top off to make it easier. Had to lift it over a fence post and a couple forsythia bushes. scraped off some of the ivy with the forks. picked up the top limbs from the yard and dumped them out of the way, then picked up the smaller pieces wearing gloves. The main poison ivy vine growing up the tree is over 2" in diameter. Took an immediate shower afterwards and have all the clothes in the washing machine. Hopefully I don't get any more poison ivy on me than what I got last week.

Wife not feeling well so not going to see fireworks tonight, stay safe everyone.

We all went down to my cousin's place on Four Mile Creek. Mamma {in the white chair} and assorted kin folks chillin'. Cousin James and his grand nephew fishing. They caught a bunch of small ones, but the little kids still got a kick out of them. This was my first time at my cousin's place, and I was very impressed. The house is small, and the piece of land isn't very big, but because of the big horseshoe bend in the creek, he has lots of waterfront. He only paid $25K, but has put about that much more into getting the house fixed up.

67 this morning high of 79 later today with showers and storms some of which may be heavy. I think we are stuck in a rut. Wife mowed grass between rain showers then took Z to mow more grass. Got half way done then quick hard shower came but no choice waited it out and finished even steep part.

Took Z to shop for service and new motor. Going fro 23hp to 29hp with fuel injection much cheaper than replacing Z. This Z is ten years old and the old saying they don't make them like they used to really applies. So we decided to go this route and hopefully it's the right one

Neighbor came over and bought in 12 loads of dirt to fill in behind my storage building. Will regrade and plant in grass. Some of the trees we cut down really opened up the view of the mountain and with time plan to put a deck on the back. This has been eight years in the making and will be a four step process.

Supposed to pack this morning then head south for the week for some R&Rbut no ocean this time too many shark attacks for my liking

Need to get coffee started. 54° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 83° with hazy sunshine. Another nice day. Not much planned today. Our dog and our sons dog that is staying with us while his family is on vacation, had a terrible time with fireworks noise yesterday evening. Kept us up until fireworks stopped after midnight. They are both sleeping in this morning.
Larro, nice relaxing pictures.
All those on the roads today, be safe.
Good Morning All.

I got the sister-in-laws lawn mowed and cut a big bull pine for a neighbor. Could only pull eight feet of it at a time up out of the hole it was in. Got to make several more trips to get the rest of it out and She has a half dozen of these that are spoiling her view. :-(

68 heading to 81. Got a few showers again yesterday. But dried out enough to mow around the house...have guests coming over today for one of our son's birthdays.

Had a nice cookout at a friend's yesterday...his birthday is on July 4...also celebrating his retirement.

Saw and heard more fireworks in the area last night than ever.

58 and a bit foggy right now. The predicted high is going to be 81. We had a bit of rain last night...none in the prediction for today.

Got my work done yesterday and did grill...good chow, but I really am losing my taste for red meat. Loved the grilled veggies though.
Today...dryer is making some noise, so I've got to check that out. If time, I'll mow the field.

The sky has just turned dark and the first drops of rain are rolling down the windows. Getting hay in is proving more difficult this year, with no prolonged dry spells. I have been helping a friend get his bales under cover. The best we could do was to stack them in the field for now and cover each stack with a truck tarpaulin. Looks like we made it just in time.

Eric,

Do you know anything about the Ffestiniog Railway in Wales? My son is interested in riding it some day.

There are several small private railways in North Wales thanks to the once numerous slate quarries. When we were on holiday there last year, we took our grandson on the other railway in Porthmadog. The track up to Blaenau Ffestiniog is a much longer journey, so perhaps we will try that one day when he is older. I think Ffestiniog is the oldest private rail track, where they originally hauled the empty wagons up the long steady incline with horses, loaded up with slate at the top, then got the horses to board and let gravity return them back to the port.

Some of the old mining towns and slate quarries are still quite desolate places. The hillsides are covered in broken discarded slate, with neither grass nor trees being inclined to grow there.

There was a slight amount of hooking discernible on the teeth:

431770-good-morning-img_2215-jpg

... so when I reinstalled them, I swapped the hub/sprocket assemblies from side to side, to reverse the hook direction. Then I pumped the hubs full of the red Mobil 1 synthetic grease, after I got the castle nuts and cotter pins installed.

Given the sprocket diameter, I'm pretty sure there's enough tooth left to outlast me.

If you're just using the mower for yourself those sprockets should last you a while. They will however not last as long (compared to new sprockets and new chain) as they'll prematurely wear your chain. Turning them around was a good choice. You should be fine unless you get into the commercial mowing business.
Those pumps look heavy duty compared to today's models. Will you give them some TLC?

88 this morning and headed to 91 today here in Fort Myers Beach Florida. Well we made it in. 15 hours turned into 19. Between traffic and traveling with a two year old. Then get here and the bridge is closed for fireworks that cost an hour in itself. Be the last time we try it in one day. On way home we're leaving a day early. No tractor time this week.

Good to here everyone had a good forth. Safe travels to others.

glad you made it there safely Farmer but what a long miserable drive. You need a nap.

nice day out, did some light food shopping, will now wash the front porch. That's about as energetic as I want to be today.
