Good morning!!!!

Good (Wednesday) morning. Overnight Low of 1.4C and it's presently 12.2C, sunny with a gentle breeze. There was 0.4mm in the gauge. The wind will probably return this arvo but not as intense as it's been.

The mid-Winter house 'sprucing' continues whenever I get around to it. I'm in no particular hurry.

It's 'into town' day for mail/groceries.

That's about it, take care all.

68F and partly cloudy @ 23:00, heading down to around 62F in the overnight. No further rain today although neighbor said she felt a couple of drops as she walking over to our place with her dogs on their walk.

Fair progress today.

Got a couple of pieces of scrap wood cut to use as measuring sticks, one 5" and the other 17". Still need a 36" one ...

Used the 18" one to mark out a row for the peppers with some marking paint:

Then headed up to the shop to cut a shim for the exhaust adapters to wedge them together.

Assembly consists of three pieces:

1. a piece of 2 1/4" (?) exhaust pipe that friction fit up into the nozzle of the HF "weed burner" propane torch (seen in photo above)

2. An adapter from that to around 3"

3. An adapter from no. 2 to no. 3 which is around 5+" O.D. at the large end.

Shim really only worked between no. 1 and no. 2, so ended up making another trip up to the shop and tack welded no. 2 onto no. 3:

Once that was done, the assembly stayed together without slipping apart so I got started on melting holes.

As luck would have it, I found out that the propane tank was nearly empty and I ran it out in fairly short order.

So a trip down to the corner hardware store to refill the two tanks. Tanks were out of date, so I did the swap thing which was only like $2 more per tank.

Once that was handled we were back in business and I melted a total of 36 holes in a single row.

And then got a total of 27 pepper plants put in the ground and watered in with some Miracle Gro:

Only one screw up where I had the torch turned up a little too high and made a slightly larger hole than what I was shooting for.

Well, two screws up ... if you count knocking off the largest Hungarian Wax pepper on one of the plants. It got sent home with the neighbor lady who will use it to make some hot rice which she will bring by tomorrow.

Still have some more peppers to do but we got most of the eggplants moved out into the garden and those will be next on the list after the peppers are done.

1 gallon pots from Menards worked well for the plants ... plants were pretty easy to slip down into the 5"+ holes in the fabric. Used a garden trowel and small bulb planter to dig and clear the holes, seemed to go reasonably quick.

Should be even easier next year, as the plants will probably get transplanted directly from their little containers from the garden center/greenhouse.

Happy to report the Altec Lansing Rockbox XL performed well ... plenty enough sound to cover the area where we were working (it's sitting down by the redbud tree and hosta in the above picture) ... at less than full volume.

Knocked off around 21:00, was starting to get pretty dark ... hard to see down into the holes to tell if they were cleared or not ... ;)

Hope everyone had a decent Tuesday ... (y)

good morning all
another day of rain, we sure don't need it.
68 going up to 79 in showers/storms today.another flood warning
folks will sure be taking them more seriously now around here

got garage cleaned out yesterday, long overdue
when it flooded got over three inches of water on most of floor, really needed to move stuff around and make
sure everything is dried out. Maybe put a floor fan on in there. Needless to say anything expensive is raised off the floor.
Garage is on a small hill next to private lane, water rushes down the lane and over into this property, right through garage.
One section of concrete floor has already sunk, mostly cosmetic but if I owned this place I would sure fix it.
I would also swale around this garage

reminds me I keep forgetting to check out the back up battery for garage door, need to order another one, hopefully larger.

I may get motivated and pull out all the strawberries, they are producing nothing but bugs and mold in a mass of green.
so mid July, what should I plant?

ignore the title, this is a pic of a battery....?????
that sure answers why my garage battery died. They are 13 bucks in quantity three. 13 bucks means what 6 or 7 to manufacture?
can't build a decent battery for that....

almost all of them are 5AH. I found one oversized one at 6ah and another at 7.5ah, now need to see if mounting is compatible. If integrated into housing, am sure only the smaller battery will fit. But if outside the housing, can probably upgrade the battery. These are 20 to 40 dollar batteries retail, looks like they all come from China. Going to look at specialty battery place and see if there is a Duracell or some battery made in US. I did, nothing US made this small, seems to start around 20AH for motorcycles.
My memory was a long time ago a Japanese Yuasa battery lasted a long time

RS, I'm in awe of your perfect little holes. Great invention. Just don't burn yourself.
I used scissors on mine in NC and after a few years the edges were a real mess.
overcoming the weeds is half the battle, now the fun part
I hope you get three or four good years out of that plastic.

I can see gears in Popgadget's head, how I automate this?...
put it on a rolling mechanism where it burns a hole every two feet?

now if you could have Don or Ted come install a drip waterer for you...but like here, I think you get plenty of rain

Thomas, don't get stuck. But if you do, take lots of pics! ;)
