70°F and o rain passing showers forecast, which we sure could use

Not much accomplished after Friday follies. I decided to make my roasted curry kabocha soup with shrimp, which is a hours long process but so worth it.

Guys won H&F in a back and forth game.

Enjoying the Apple series, Chief of War. Highly recommend.

Nothing major planned for the day. Rain could be a major factor.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

I have a roofing question.
landlord having problems getting anyone to come out and fix my living room roof, which is missing
about 7 shingles. Roof is at least ten years old, what is best practices here? One guy apparently mumbled something like they don't make
those shingles any more but he had some in his barn. Well, he never showed up.
I've called a "real" roofer but wonder if this was yours, what would you do?
thanks

In my experience, once you start losing scattered shingles, I think it is time to start over. There are a few possible causes; original roofer incompetence, old/ low quality shingles, age, or storm damage, or some combination. The first three aren't going to get any better with time, and the storm damage is often the result of the first three.

If it were my roof, I would take the shingles and underlayment off down to the wood and start over. Trying to piece in a few shingles rarely looks ok, and equally rarely remains water or storm tight.

Sorry.

All the best,

Peter

took a while but got the ramps done plus added the metal scrape bar on the shed floor edge.
still rattles going over but much better and now not bending the shed trim.
"anti slip" sand worked great, rough as can be.

relisted my rv and already got spam bot replies. They want me to run this report
and sure they'll reimburse me when they get here. Un huh. Spam bot making phony inquiries to solicit
search business. This has happened before.
need a nap and conserve energy

70F and mostly cloudy (supposedly) @ 14:00 ... but it looks pretty sunny out there to me. Calling for a high of 71F for the day. Nearby LWS reports this mornings low was 40.7F ...

Started off yesterday with a shower and a shave, was really overdue for the shave ... feels good to have that mess mowed off.

Finished filling the 2nd glyphosate sprayer, then took it up and sprayed down the weeds in the planting bed on the west side of the shop where I dumped the screened compost awhile back. Doesn't seem like it was all that long ago that I had dumped the compost ... but the weeds had already gotten up to 12" - 18" tall.

After that I came back down and got on the Kubota and brought it around front and swapped out one of the cutting edges on the outside edge of the auger which was badly worn down and moved it to an inside position.

Then drilled planting hole over on the west side for another Redbud tree which The Woman will be able to see from the kitchen window. Tough going with the ground so dry but got it done.

Once that was done I headed up to the shop and attempted to redrill a previously drilled planting hole up there. No dice ... only got down a couple of inches ... ground was like concrete. Figure I'll take the Buffalo up at some point and give it a good soaking before I try again.

After that I came back down and started watering the hostas and ornamental trees in back.

The ground all around the base of the (southeast) Japanese crab apple out back was really cracked, as the tree and hostas had sucked all the moisture out. That one got 12 gallons before the cracks started filling up with water.

The hostas around the Hawthorn got 10 gallons.

The (southeast) Redbud and hostas also got 10 gallons.

After that I started I ran around front and grabbed the battery-operated chainsaw, a fresh battery, and the tree wound compound and came back and started pruning the (southeast) Japanese crab apple.

Got that all done and the cuts dressed.

Then started pruning the (southwest) Japanese crab apple. Finished that up and dressed the wounds.

Can now mow around those without getting the lights on the Cub, which are magnetically mounted, knocked off.

Fawns were just out there a bit ago, browsing on the trimmed branches which are still lying there.

Woman came out as I was pruning to pick beans. That ended up turning into a complete reconnoitering of the garden for produce that needed picked.

Came away with a pretty good haul, including a couple of monsters that had escaped our notice previously:

IMG_3855 copy.jpg

One yellow squash required surgery on a metal cage that it had grown into and the zucchini had grown up under and into one of the holes in the weed block fabric trying to hide ... lol ...

Happened to notice a large Waltham Butternut squash growing high on the arched trellis that we had somehow missed ... got a sling put on that to support it.

Marked the fence post locations on the east side of the garden again with marking paint.

Then used the remaining juice in the glyphosate sprayer to (mostly) spray all the weeds on the east side garden expansion. Need to get that area mulched this coming week.

Bats were out and was getting dark at that point so I came on in.

Did manage to get the glyphosate sprayer refilled before I knocked off for the day ... so both are ready to go today.

Burning daylight so need to get rolling.

Hope everyone is having a decent Saturday ... (y)

good breakfast with the gang.
nice day out.
stopped by the church building on way home, wife wanted to do some weeding outside. I trimmed some bushes while she weeded.

The homemade salsa she made is delicious, had some of that, could eat more.
Been years since I've helped haul cattle. We used to haul our own years ago, but later dad would pay someone to haul.

Looks like pipeline people are working at the farm, they are seeding now. They should be done sometime soon.

10 yrs not long for a roof. Biggest issues with shingles blowing off is improper nailing. After my last reroof, I had a couple blow off soon after, and found not nailed correctly. Never had another issue other than that one spot.

Good (Sunday) morning. Overnight Low of 6.4C and it's presently 9.2C [heading, apparently, to 17C], clear & calm.

I'm heading off to Church in about a half hour (I'm leading the Morning Prayer service) and then the rest of the day is His.

That's about it, take care all.

Drew, roof can be patched with the right tool. Won't match perfectly but rest of roof could last more years. There is a tar strip underneath that should stick down to the shingles below. You can put some roofing cement on loose shingles but if it drools down it's ugly.
Billy, when you take Della swimming, take your shoes off and cool your feet too.

Buppies, glad for some good days. Prayers.

Having drama with our autistic daughter today. Not good. Wanted to work on pond rake.

Still haven't received any rain. Still haven't mowed the last rough thick acre or 2.

Prayers for our team, our nation, Israel and Ukraine peace.

Same here. Been years since helping Dad load cattle to take them to Lexington. Finally got someone to haul them after we round them up in the pens. I remember during one of his last hospital stays I told him all the cattle have been picked up and sold at the auction in Lexington. The land was leased to relatives in the cattle business after he died.
