Pin oaks used to be very popular but some disease is working on them

Man!! That's a lot of snow!!!
Fortunately, I'd spray anti-stick on the usual parts of the blower....snow went flying so fast and high, I'll wager it made it all the way to Lebanon NH....I'll have to ask Thomas...

That EGO couldn't handle the 16"...not even close. My fault...should have gone out when I first woke a little after 0200. Iused the tractor's snow blower to clear a path...do some touch up with the EGO later

Did my drive, neighbor's drive and part of the road. Really difficult to figure out where the road was, actually. Township snow plow had come through about 0400...I was watching him...and his turns looked a little odd... Well, that was because he actually plowed my front lawn for the first 50-100 yards. I was following his tracks when snow blowing the road and noticed he made 2 turns where there were no turns in the road. That's were I stopped...

Still snowing pretty steady...reckon I'll be heading back out in a few hours

OK , silver maple seems to be off my list Rip-thanks.

Fraser Fir - looks to be on the edge of growing in area 6-7, but possible.
I already planter a bur Oak and that seems to be doing ok, but won't be big for another 10-20 years.

...

If your looking for a screen until a hard wood gets going try these:

green giant arborvitae
leyland cyprus

I planted those on a property edge, with some hardwoods interspersed.

The green giant worked out best, full, green year round, no maintenance and it took off. Is about 30 feet tall now.

Leylands, not as tall or full.

Both create a nice natural barrier, visually and sound wise too.

Paul Short is his name very nice people I have purchased from them before

Definitely a great guy. He posted a video once, which just happened to be about a problem that I had on my BX 25 tractor, which involved reaching way up inside to put a single little nut on a connector for the go pedal. Very difficult job with my big biceps and big hands, but I never forget the words he used which inspired me. He simply said “I did it, and if I can do it you can do it“

He was right!

green giant arborvitae - wife hates these, we have enough around these parts that we see them all the time. I won't win that argument/
leyland cyprus - would be worried the deer would defoliate the bottoms, if they munch on holly...
Might take a look though, we had a few of these at our last house.

Thanks Rip for the suggestions. We had a lot of Ash in this area, mostly all fallen or need to be dropped leaving the area pretty wide open.

Good morning all. Finished my 1st cup of coffee, ready for the second. Not looking forward to the job I have to do this morning. Last night, I was blowing snow at the rental place 500 yards away, and was completely done, but as I was going out the gate to head home my rear left tire caught a bolt that was sticking out of the gate mechanism and tore it open. Instant flat!

Had to leave it there, and walk home. This morning I have to go out and fortunately I have a spare wheel, but I am not looking forward to working on it at 21°C below! (-4°F or so)

And I have to get to it pretty quick. Have to be back in town by 5:20 PM for the dogs vet appointment. 2 1/2 hour drive!

Meanwhile, I have to say that the snowblower performed admirably, making short work of my 500 foot drive. (Have to remember to clean it when I get it back into the garage.)

Have a good day everyone!

You might want to take a look at photinia (redtips), too.
