Good morning!!!!

Good afternoon all! Low was 59 this morning, nice! Now it is up to 91.... a few clouds, but probably no storms will form.

We got an early start this morning doing some errands and an appointment. Got back home and had a good lunch. I still have some more errands later this afternoon. Hopefully we got them all consolidated into today.

At least I was able to pick up the materials for another set of outside steps. I'll start laying them out tomorrow. There was a good supply / selection of pressure treated in stock, and prices were way down, closer to normal (still about 20% higher).

Mostly, the knee is about the same for the last 3 months. I can only walk with the assistance of a cane if the distance is greater than about 30 feet. Anything further than that and the knee will "give out", causing a stumble. I have learned to anticipate that happening and usually results in a weird 'dance' for a step or two.... It still swells to about twice normal size after about 4 hours...
Pain and movement gets progressively worse throughout the day. I have an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon next week.
Needless to say, I am not a happy camper.....

RNG, please close the door outside..... we don't need any of the heat, smoke, or anything else that wants to drift this way! I really hope it gets better for you out there. I heard a news report saying a few of those fires won't be extinguished until maybe December.....

Gotta get at it again.... everyone have a great evening!

Have you considered using a hole saw to make the cuts?
I’ve had pretty good luck doing them that way.
Harbor freight might even have a cheap jig to do them in the drill press with a hole saw. I know that there are some expensive fixtures out there.
That was my first choice, Paul. But I didn't have a 3 1/2" metal cutting hole saw, and they're pretty expensive. I was going to order one of those cutting patterns that wrap around the pipe, but Amazon couldn't get it here in a day. Then I saw that video that cutting at a 33° angle would do the same thing, and now I'm done except for cleaning up a little bit of the point with a grinder.:giggle:

Believe me when I tell you, Ted, that if I could close the door to all that smoke, I'd have done it weeks ago. And if I had an A/C big enough, I'd have that thermostat turned down to a nice cool 77F. But if a frog had wheels, he wouldn't bump his butt, either. So we'll just have to tough it out and hope that the rains start at the end of September or early October, like they should. But they've been very late the last few years, so keep those thoughts and wishes comin', folks.

My next door neighbor has a very tall, very dead tree that would wreck their home if it fell, and maybe if I were better with trigonometry I could calculate whether the top
would hit my home, but I think by eyeballing it the answer is yes.
Here's the egghead answer, Drew.

And of course, there's a video of an even easier way.

Since we're doing math, here's a puzzler.

I put a pressure gauge on the water line coming down from the upper tank to see how much water pressure the drop down the hill would generate. I've had two gauges in there so far, and they both only read 10 PSI. Here's the math I did, and the answer was much more than what I'm seeing:

Elevation at tank site = 1229'
Elevation at hydrant site = 1176'
Height difference = 53 + 14’ at top of tank = 67’
Water pressure at pump house = 67' x .47 PSI/foot = 31.5 PSI

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

RNG again your ability and knowledge astounds me. I can search for things and never find them. Thanks for sharing

Your math is fine as far as the numbers go.
1 PSI is equal to 27.707 inches of 60F water,
so, 67 x 12 = 804 inches / 27.707 = 29.0179 psi.

As far as calculating I would expect your water is warmer then 60F so the density would be a tiny bit less.

Also almost all gauges are notoriously inaccurate in the bottom 10% and the top 10% of there span,
If that is a static non flowing measurement there would be no friction losses.
If the elevation is derived from your phone or gps they are often inaccurate.
I recall a few years ago my wife and I went to Florida over Christmas and as I'm driving down the main highway my gps is indicating -60 feet of elevation.

If that pressure is while water is flowing past the gauge the venturi effect and line friction would play a large part in your numbers.
