TwoBit, thanks for explanation.
I grew up outside a town that was at one time 50% gay, and for many that made it
pretty "weird". Thankfully it was also a great opportunity for learning tolerance, which most of us did.
Texas really does have different areas, different people, quite a melting pot.
Different is good, but we can all be good citizens in our own way.

Good morning! 64 now and foggy, high of about 86 later.

Just took it easy yesterday. Had a heavy rain in the afternoon. Made kabobs on the grill for dinner. Quite tasty.

Had this visitor on the side of the garage yesterday

Not sure what I will get into today.

Everyone stay safe out there!

Overwhelmingly in most cultures the mantis is a symbol of stillness.
As such, she is an ambassador from the animal kingdom giving testimony to the benefits of meditation,
and calming our minds. An appearance from the mantis is a message to be still, go within, meditate, get quite and reach a place of calm.

strange take on an apex predator; tons of youtube videos on how ferocious these bugs are
of course it does sit there like a quiet stick, blending in, waiting for its next meal.
maybe it is meditating, who knows...
interesting I was told early on by parents to leave that bug alone, not to hurt it, that it was a good bug like a lady bug.

Good Morning.
It’s 71 with a high of 81 forecast. Another overcast day with rain predicted.

Yesterday.s rains did not really materialize, other than a few random showers. Son was able to grind over 20 stumps.

I spent most of the day in the shop, not sure I accomplished as much as I would have liked, but steady progress isn’t a bad thing.

Today I’ll get some shop time in the morning, but have to go to Ogdensburg, NY this afternoon. Tomorrow and Wednesday I’ll be traveling as well, but I’m home every night.

Good morning! 71˚F clear skies, heading to the upper 90s. The next three days will be cloudless and progressively hotter and we should be creeping into the 100s. Blood test early and then cards later maybe pool time in-between. I also need to start building a closet shelf organizer unit for the extra bedroom, today will be the planing day.

Good Morning!!!! 63F @ 5:30AM. Abundant sunshine. High 89F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
Nice weather we're having now, but it'll be back into the 100s by the weekend.

It's another sad statement on our times that you have to contemplate security for your gathering, Drew. But glad the local police department is being proactive, and offering to help.

Kept the bandsaw singing all day yesterday, and got most of the material cut for the grizzly. The neighbor still hasn't come up with the little I-beams for the bars, though, and that'll be some tough cutting. We're supposed to hit the junkyard this afternoon for a couple more pieces of pipe and square tube, and I've still got saddle cuts to make on most of the pieces. Getting some cleanup done in the garage while the saw is working, but being out in the smoke is getting to my throat and lungs a little more than I'd like.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a good start.

Morning all, about another .75 inches of rain last night. Still cloudy/windy
Looks like all friends/family on Long Island just fine, some flooding is about it.

Heat coming back this week. Need to cut up some trees that were felled last week and get the cable company to check the speed again, now that we have the new cable in the ground.

Stay safe and be well.

Paul, where was your son grinding stumps? That looks like hard work.

My next door neighbor has a very tall, very dead tree that would wreck their home if it fell, and maybe if I were better with trigonometry I could calculate whether the top
would hit my home, but I think by eyeballing it the answer is yes. I'm also guessing about $3k to take it down based on local prices so fully understand why they are procrastinating.

So at some point, I need to gently request he do something about it. Particularly with hurricane season upon us.

and I've still got saddle cuts to make on most of the pieces.

Have you considered using a hole saw to make the cuts?
I’ve had pretty good luck doing them that way.
Harbor freight might even have a cheap jig to do them in the drill press with a hole saw. I know that there are some expensive fixtures out there.
