@Popgadget sorry to see the fire and I'm sorry that you are losing your alpacas. That must be hard.

Impressive gear print! I think back on various items that were trashed because a gear deconstructed and I wasn't able to find a replacement.

I'd be counting my blessings that the tanks didn't fail during the fire. (And they have been now been dumped/vented, right?) I've seen what a compressed gas tank failure looks like. It isn't pretty, especially if one or the other ends failed.

@daugen when you posted "fan rattle", I have to admit I was thinking mice and loose nuts, as it has happened too often to my vehicles over the years. I'm glad that you and Ken got it fixed. Personally, I'm a little annoyed that manufacturers don't do a better job of screening cabin, and engine, air intakes. I had an engine air filter completely filled with acorns by some industrious mice. What amazed me was that the 7L diesel ran just fine (no pressure drop measured on the air intake gauge), but as far as I could tell, the entire housing and intake had been filled with acorns, perhaps two gallons worth. Personally, I would go on a hunt to try and find the 1/2" hole that they got the nuts through to avoid having it happen again. One of my trucks has 1/8" screening in the air intake cowling, but a 1x4" gap at one end, and yup, one year mice moved in. Half the width of the truck was body metal enclosed channel under the windshield and the mouse nest was at the back of it, just over the cabin air intake that was screened just fine enough to keep the mice out of the truck cab. After disassembling the cowlings, and wipers, vacuuming out the nest with a shop vac and some creative extensions was ok, but cleaning the mouse pee took days of cleaning, rinsing, sanitizing, and repeating. The drain for the space was pencil size, and too much spray caused it to run into the cab. Not my favorite project.

We had a surprise (not in the forecast) rain last night that started just as we were out feeding the animals. The dog loves the scents, but getting her double coat undercarriage clean is always a challenge. I'm considering one of those blow dryers for dogs.

34F outside, but no snow overnight as the snow level looks to have been several thousand feet above us.

All the best,

Peter

I got another call later stating that they reviewed surveillance footage, and our locker was a victim, not the instigator.
The apparent source was an extension cord plugged into an engine heater.
Sorry about your fire. Glad they cleared your locker as not the cause.

Post from yesterday that didn't get posted:

42F and foggy @ 16:30 and that should be the high for the day. Calling for a low of 31F overnight tonight.

Rain yesterday melted all the snow.

Picked up med was doled out.

Trip Menards in Tallmadge/Kent was made and all items on the list picked up.

Ran the endoscope up beside the stack/vent pipe. It does appear to go all the way to the top of the wall. Was hard to make out what happens there ... at some point in the future I'll get up in the attic over the garage and see if it penetrates into that space. But that won't happen until I get enough room out in the garage to set up the tall stepladder underneath the access door.

So I held off on picking up an air admittance device until I can figure out what's going on.

Also ran the endoscope down below the floor in the crawl space. Someone else besides myself was very interested in that space:

Lot's of cobwebs and what I would presume is bare dirt down there. Did not see any critter holes ... but then I did not do a thorough inspection just a quick look. May revisit that before I permanently close up the wall.

Apparently the 3rd time was a charm as far as the drain went:

🤬

Got holes for the drain and water supply lines drilled through the bottom stud on the shared kitchen/laundry room wall and a couple of holes for the supply lines in an adjacent stud:

IMG_4234 copy.jpg

Didn't drill the one for the drain until I can figure out the height that it needs to be.

Water supply valves for the stationary tub taken apart and then sweated off the stubs and stubs trimmed back.

A pair of 1/2 sweat x 1/2 male pipe fittings sweated on.

Used the new cable saw to cut off the abs lateral to the dedicated drain for the washer. First time I had used one, worked ok ... but because it uses friction the plastic tends to "weld" itself back together requiring another pass through. Can see how it would be handy for stuff in locations that are otherwise near impossible to get to. Worth the $5 price of admittance if you're dealing with those situations.

After that I used the Dremel Multitool to cut the drain line in 2 places and removed that section of pipe:

56F and "Fair" @ 14:00 and that should be the high for the day. Calling for a high of 60F tomorrow ... far out of the norm.

Yesterday I attempted to use the cable saw to trim off the remaining vertical leg of the laundry drain line.

Getting the cable down around it and in position was a complete PITA and required using a prybar to lift the pipe due to lack of clearance so I could slide the cable underneath.

Fortunately while I had my fingers down there I discovered the big fat cable carrying 220v to the dryer ... ... and I made sure to avoid looping the cable around that ... ;)

One thing I did find with the cable saw was that once you start and it really gets cutting is that you have to keep going and not stop until the cut is complete ... otherwise the cable gets "glued" in there and stuck and won't move.

Getting it unstuck required using the prybar to push the cable further down, to where it had already cut the pipe, to free it up.

I eventually did get that vertical leg cut off and removed ... which should allow me to pull the remainder of the pipe out into the basement, completely removing it.

Then unwound the heat tape from around the water supply lines.

As ponytug suggested I did find that one of the two wires in the heat tape was broken ... had chunk missing from it. Whether that was from some critter chewing on it or just the incompetence the idjits who originally did this "renovation" who knows ... just thankful there wasn't a fire as a result.

Then did a similar "cut and remove" with one of the two water supply lines. Still have to do the 2nd one.

Today we'll start working on installing the supply and drain lines in the laundry room.

Hope everyone is having a decent day ... (y)

Trip to town was kind of a bust, other than I did get Chinese for lunch. Also delivered another 5 gal of used oil to recycle. Ordered trex fascia at HD for the deck. Should come in next week.

They were out of posts for my fence, Lowe’s also had none. tractor supply only had jeans for short people.

Bought new clasps for flag lanyard, but they kind of small. Ordered some on Amazon.

Pebbles now asleep on me.

68°F and 0 rain

Kekoa got his stitches removed from his lumpectomies.

Capacitor for range hood came in early, that will be my focus today. Removing 18 years of grease build up will be the fun part. A couple cans of Easy Off to help. I’m sure some disassembly required to get the squirrel cages.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great tractor day

Good (Friday) morning. Overnight Low of 14C and it's presently 20.3C, overcast with a gentle breeze. There was a surprising 0.2mm in the gauge @ 0900.

The heatwave appears to be over for Tasmania especially as the temperature started to decrease shortly after my posting yesterday. Not so for South Australia and Victoria who are hitting mid-40C with high winds. A couple of 'catastrophic', out of control bushfires are happening there now with multiple structures lost.

My tractor checked out good yesterday so I'm ready for whenever the rounds of hay arrives. Today I'll move/shift whatever horse jumps/obstacles are out there so that the semi can move freely... if it can fit through the gate (width-wise). 😐

I'll also need to nip into town as the Wine Faeries have been active again. Oh, and I've got a Doctor appointment @ 1500.

That's about it, take care all.

If the semi bringing your hay is 2.5 meters wide (legal)and your gate is 3 meters wide then he/she will have zero problems.
The semi's width is not the concern, it's the width of the load.

Hay rounds, on their side and two abreast will overhang enough on each side of the trailer to cause a problem.

Good Tractor Evening,
BUT I do also have 2 of the LDG 600pro tuners and they are great as well
Steve, I have the LDG 600PROll Tuner on back order, it’s gotten excellent reviews. But it supposedly not getting shipped until February 9 th. I will be laying on a beach in the Caribbean from February 2nd to the 14th. Guess I will evaluate it when I get home. I just like the idea of an Auto Tuner. 😉
Cold cuts that have no comparison here
Massey, I remember being in Venice a few years back, and we stayed at a B&B off the beaten path, every morning they had some of the most amazing meats for breakfast 🙏
