Good morning tbn folks from Houghton MI. A overcast morning which is normal winter thing here with a North 18 mph wind with 28 mph gusts. Kinda breezy. I've had a sore and swollen foot but I finally got in a 1.5 mile BC ski with dearest and mutts last night. Skiing was quite good. Put the Yamaha atv up for sale and thinking about the weekend trip to camp Covington. Nothing very exciting happening here...

Hope you enjoyed the Age of Steam Roundhouse @buckeyefarmer. I live about 9 miles from there and have not yet managed to check it out. 😳

Odd, as one of my favorite museums when I was traveling the world was “The Train Museum” in Mulhouse France.

Any idea what they are? Things like grubs and snow mold can both leave perfect circular dead patches in the lawn, which also regrow in a different color depending on which species of a multivar recover most quickly. But I don't think that's what you have here.

The ring with the center and outside both being the same color makes me think of the old buried foundation footers I see telegraphing thru the frost on my lawn on cold mornings. Our property is an old farm, and I can still see the outline of the old long-gone buildings in the frost patterns in my lawn, when the conditions are just right for it.

Was there ever a silo in that location?
I know exactly what causes them, just don't know why... It's called a Fairy Ring, where mushrooms grow in a circle. I have 3 of them in the field. The mushrooms are round, bigger than a softball. When I hit them with the mower before they turn brown, they just slice up. After they turn brown, you get a big dark cloud.
Here's a pic of some when smaller, this is different spot than the other picture.

I knew you were close. First time there, was really great, except I was starting to feel under the weather, and towards the end I just wanted to leave.
Their turntable is from Hagerstown MD, close to me here.

@Popgadget Sorry about the leak.

FWIW: I've been buying couplers from Summit Hydraulics (direct & from Amazon). The quality seems reasonable and I've had a few for eight years or so. No leaks, no stuck couplers.

All the best,

Peter

took my nephew's son to tennis practice since his sister had his mother going in another
direction. He'll get his license in a year so I'll have plenty of paybacks coming.
raining lightly out

waiting for estimate from car shop. He lubed my three zerks and they are a little quieter.
He needs to price the parts for the drip and will give me an estimate.
he said once you open the thing up makes sense to replace both gaskets.
ok, waiting for the magic number.
I brought them a dozen Entemann donuts and the work today was no charge.

seems a little counterintuitive to be guzzling barium solution tonight and tomorrow morning, which
is radioactive, in order to get the best CT scan tomorrow.
well if you didn't have cancer before...
what doesn't kill you will make you stronger I guess.

I already got my labs back, happy to get a 97 glucose reading. Some weird blood tests were slightly out of range, but
they are sometimes. Lot of red herring potential.
what is more important is what the radiologist writes afterwards.
thankfully they put that online, don't have to wait.

let's see how many "possibles" they come back with...

@daugen While barium does have a single "technically" radioactive isotope that occurs naturally at low levels, the last I knew of, barium is generally used to block x-rays, thereby making a better contrast of the edges and surfaces of the intestines. So, unless you are in some special research endeavor, I suspect the barium that you are consuming isn't radioactive.

The CT scan is a different matter. That will dose you with some radiation. A basic lower GI is the equivalent of two plus years of "normal" radiation exposure. (Those living over ground sources of radon without radon ventilation get more radiation normally.)

All the best,

Peter

Good (Thursday) morning. Overnight Low of 9C and it's presently 20.0C, clear with a gentle breeze. The bushfire is still listed as a "Watch and Act" however there's no smoke haze or observable smoke that I can see from "Wagtail Park". I'm still hearing the odd helicopter so they're mopping-up.

Yesterday arvo I did get the mowing done. Today I discovered that I'll need to 'top up' some of my scripts, so there'll be another quick trip into town.

Tonight is the end of school "Leavers" (graduating) dinner/dance (like a "Prom"). It was scheduled to be held at the "Parkside" facility, however due to the bushfire has had to be transferred to the school's gymnasium. I only know this because the 'Mad Agisting Horse Woman's' Daughter (who also agists her horse with me) is attending. Such is rural life, eh?

That's about it, take care all.
-----------------------------------------------
1165 hectares, that is about 1500 acres isn't it?
2879 acres (1 hectare = 2.47 acres)
Wagtail, is the local press making a big deal of this?
The under 16yo social media ban isn't being made a 'big deal', but it's just happened and the media would love to make a big story out of it.

I know exactly what causes them, just don't know why... It's called a Fairy Ring, where mushrooms grow in a circle.

They start as one spore (mushroom) which multiplies and expands outwards, consuming the nutrients as they go. Usually the grass inside the "ring" will turn brown.

@buckeyefarmer I've seen "fairy rings" that were either puffball, usually giant puffballs (with huge rings around here), or a lethal lawn fungus, but those two look different to me. The very well defined circumference makes me wonder about a foundation for something.

Gosh that seems like quite the stable cleaning! Good luck.

So the son just seemed to get over his strep after a round of Zpack azithromycin, but after maybe 5 days, he got sick again. This time instead of the clinic, we took him to his real Doc. She said Z pack not enough to beat back strep. So she gave him Cefdinir. He's allergic to penicillin like me. She gave him 300mg, 2x day, for 10 days. He's on his 3rd day and his fever went away yesterday, but still a lingering cough and sore throat. He hates cough syrup. He got voted MVP for his tennis team. LOL he has a long ways to go but still just a sophomore. Team lost all their good seniors to graduation.

My wife, son and I had an argument. Asking opinions. One side says for the cough/crud/sore throat that the mucinex pills are better, and the other side says Tussin-CF or DM cough syrup/ Dayquil are better. Which do you guys prefer?

Took middle daughter to doctor for more evaluation/ med tweaking. Took her to Whataburger afterwards, but she got the chicken tender box meal.

Ordered 2 new tractor rims for the bigger tractor. 10 x 24" 6 loop rims. On the way from way up north. Guessing the cold will slow down the delivery. Shipping estimated at $84. for FedEx home freight delivery. Not real heavy. Maybe 30lbs each plus pallet. Once they come in, I'll decide to either order the cheaper tires (2 for $500), or pay the big bux and get the Firestones. $870/pair.

Good Morning! 33˚F heading to the upper 50s with clear skies and N winds.

BIL had a terrible wreck on his motorcycle with an 18 wheeler yesterday in Columbus TX and was lifeflighted to Houston 75 miles away. Might be making a trip to Houston this week.
Does not sound good Don and Karen. Prayers. If he was on the interstate 10, I hate that section. I have only rode a motorcycle once on that section back in 1990 on a nice Yamaha Venture Royale.
It is going good. Loving retirement. Getting a lot of projects completed.
Good to hear from you! I thought of you when I saw a nice but maybe 80-90% AJS 500 on FB. Do you ever ride the BSA?

Got a verbal OK to buy a new wire EDM machine for our program in January. Also a donor gave to our welding technical elective. Our welding technical elective is a deep dive into the books with 2 or 3, hour long lectures along with a 3+ hour shop lab each week. The students get to burn a lot of rods, mig a lot of test pieces, and get a good taste of tig welding steel and aluminum. Only 32 students per year get to take the class. Best GPA gets you in. They all rave about how much they learned taking the course. It's not a blow off course, they get weekly quizzes, tests, welding tests (not certifications) and they have a final exam.

49F went to 70F today, going back down to 38F tomorrow morning.

Buppies, one time I was taking some antibiotics for something, not long after my wife had delivered a child. I accidentally took one of her hydrocodone pain pills. Didn't do nothing for me. Realized it the next time I reached into the cupboard to get my prescription and noticed it had her name on it. Same sized bottle, similar sized and shaped pills. Hope y'all are alright. Come down off of that cloud with those dreams!

BEF, Mushroom crop circles? don't make tea with them!

Ponytug, had some co-workers from the Santa Clara area, and they all talked about 1 of their buddies at our sister shop out in CA had a huge avocado tree. They would go over and get bushels of avocados. Wish it didn't freeze here, but watch what you wish for right?

Popgadget, trying to figure out what I want to print on the new multicolor multi head printer first? I'm thinking a full sized Mandalorian helmet? Of course after synchronizing the heads on something smaller.

Some of our students got to go tour the Peterbilt factory up near Denton Texas about a month ago. Said sales are slow, theorized companies are waiting for the interest rates to go down.

Hope you all have a blessed week. Prayers for our team, our nation, and for peace in the World.
