Buppies, how long after Blacktop is laid before strips can be put down and traffic is allowed?

Two tons of pellets showed up yesterday. Got them unloaded and stacked into the garage. Speaking of pellets we fired up the stove for the first time this season. Nice and warm in here right now! We only plan on running it weekends and really cold spells this year. Oil is way cheaper to use right now.

I could never understand the allure of pellet stove, I always assumed it was that they were less expensive to operate than the central heat source. If it’s more expensive, why bother with it?

39 outside right now, heading to lower 60's today.

Finally managed to get burn pile under control yesterday. That had to be the biggest collection of materials since we moved here. Took 1/4 tank of diesel moving stuff around. Since we have not had an decent rain in a long while I decided to start early while the ground was "wet". Worked out well.
BurnPile.jpg

I then turned my attention to the outbuildings and did some trim and touch up work for them. Still need to get batteries for the man-lift but I need to get that on the to-do schedule and see how I feel in a few weeks, I think the barn may now have to wait until spring for painting. Speaking of the barn, put 300 bales up in the loft for winter feed. Wife was not too happy with me moving about like that. I told her maybe she needs to hire out some help and see when they show. LOL.
HayPutUp.jpg

Today I need to get the ladder out and change an LED on the West Side of the barn. The light is about 18 feet up, which is 18 feet too many. LOL. One day there may be a door planned for that side, or a nice huge window. The LED's just don't seem to make it to their 15 year lifetime marketing. I don't do ladders. Too many friends have had really bad experiences with them.

Hope all have a good Sunday, or/and worship, or/and get with family, or/and call on a friend, always hug your loved ones. Be safe.

Ron I do not know the manufacturer recommended time. If we paved parking lot striping right behind us. Some roads like what we did last year temporarily mark with stick on reflectors then paint or use thermo plas installed with heat. On city streets paint almost as soon as we are done. Great question I’ll research

Good Morning 😃
They worked all day yesterday putting blacktop down. Sure will be nice if they open it up tomorrow morning. My neighbors cannot take their Mercedes on the gravel road. Some of the pot holes are over foot deep.

Ron, are they doing the whole road up to the next paved part?
does this mean the end of dirt for you?

but you know now they will fly through there, at least ten over
My dirt road is a mess because of the diverted traffic off paved road. Camera shows paving is done.

Winterdeere,my family used to allow local hunters on the farm in deer season until my Father found a big chunk
out of the side of our house, in the mortar between the fieldstone. Seems some hunter down by the church below, just this side of Bowman's tower...
T'wasn't me! But I did do some hunting around Bowman's tower in the 1980's, we used to own most of the property along Lurgan Rd. from Street Road to the tower, including the small house directly across from the tower road entrance. Here's a picture of me at Bowman's, December 1978:

In case anyone is wondering WTH we're talking about, Bowman's Hill is where Geo. Washington stationed lookouts, to spy on the Hessians and Brit's across the Delaware river in the weeks leading up to the famous Christmas night crossing for the Battle of Trenton. A tower was later built there (1920's?), to commemorate the spot, using donations from area residents.

Good Morning
Day started at 37° it’s up to 54 now, won’t get to 60, but it’s sunny.

Yesterday did a mish mash of chores, balanced the ERV, did a weld repair on a neighbors trac vac, cleaned up a bit, and hooked up the Progressive mower and knocked out the open areas, and finished up the edges with the Lazer.

At the end of the day, I parked in front of a nice fire with my feet up.

IMG_1073.jpg

That was the first fire of the year, it felt nice. The fireplace is already cleaned and reloaded for the next one. Maybe tonight.

Not sure about today, I might try and fly one of the resurrected fuel powered planes, but I need to get to work on the little plane and get that going again.

Morning all, 55 going to 60 and sunny.
Trip into NY went great, did 20,000 steps.
Met up with son, went to get registered for college family day.
Went to SoHo so wife could look at some stuff.
Then around Washington sq park where they were having a big Halloween dog parade.
Then to Union square where the Saturday famers market was in full swing, baked, good, veggies, meats, fish etc.
The to see Joe Hill and get pictures taken with him. Fun talking with him, our group picture is on hist instagram account.
Then off to the family day stuff and finally after that off to a greek place that was amazing, food was as good as we got in many places in Greece,

Home late, hope to split some rounds today.

Feel better Riptides, hope the break helps recovery.

Wow Pogadget, hope she heals quick

Will catch up more later.

43F and sunny @ 11:00, heading up to around 57F for the day's high. The nearby Clinton LWS reports this morning's low there was 29.6F.

Decent progress inside yesterday.

Old water heater was fully drained so got it moved outside without making a mess on the carpet. That will need to get moved over to the barn until I can collect up enough scrap metal to make a trip to the recycler. Probably won't happen until Spring.

Last panel of 2" foam board for the south wall in the utility room measured and cut down.

Moved a 4 x 8 sheet of 1" polyisocyanate foam board back into the utility room. Need to measure and cut a piece off that for the area above the foam board mentioned above, there is HVAC duct work in the way and 2" foam board will not fit.

Electrical box and pressure switch for the well relocated further right on the board they were originally mounted on, then that board was trimmed with the multi tool so that a 4 x 8 sheet of 2" foam can be put up on the wall.

Checked dry fit of the 4 x 8 panel, board on the wall still needs about an inch trimmed off. Will be the first panel of foam board on the west wall.

Once that panel is glued up and in place, I can stud in a 4' section so the electrical box and pressure switch can be relocated to the stud wall, freeing up another section of the west wall for more foam board.

Hit the bottoms of the concrete foundation walls with wire brush to knock off the efflorescence and then vacuumed that up, along with the walls themselves.

Then hit the wall bottom with some plain water and a scrub brush.

After that started removing the salt and brine from the softener brine tank, got one and half 5 gallon buckets of clean salt that can be used when the softener is back up and running and about 1 1/2 gallons of dirty salt from the bottom of the brine tank which will get used as deicer on the entryway and drive this winter.

All 3 buckets are sitting on the floor under a furnace register so the water will evaporate and add some humidity to the air while the heat is running.

Baffle for brine tank rinsed off. Brine tank still needs washed out before being put back in service, don't know that that has ever been done.

Ten rolls of kraft-faced R-11 insulation moved from utility room to the family room.

Now empty brine tank relocated to where the rolls of insulation were in the utility room.

Had some loose sections of R-11 (not full roll), cut a bunch of 9 1/2" pieces off that to add to R-10 that is sitting on top of the sill plate between the floor joists.

Placed order for all 'scripts to be refilled, Woman picked those up along with one of Her's for the glaucoma. Now if She will just take it ...

Woman has been making a bunch of noise about "weeding", "cleaning up the garden", and "cleaning up the front" (implication being that I should be involved in all of it) ... but so far hasn't made it out there yesterday or today.

What I have on the agenda today is to 1. move that old water heater over to the barn, 2. grab a bunch of 2 x 4 x 8's and bring them over to the garage where they will get cut to length for the stud walls in the utility room.

Since the Sun is out might start cutting some of the welded wire fencing for the cages for the arborvitaes.

Might try getting the next post for the second H-brace on the southeast corner post set and braced later.

Will see how warm it feels out there.

Beyond that, just see what else comes up.

Hope everyone is having a decent Sunday ... (y)

Don, I guess the farm rarely gets that sort of rain so that's why no drainage/ditch system, but hope it wasn't too messy for the crowds.
Good afternoon, 82˚F clear skies, no wind.

I rains enough. After his failed frantic efforts yesterday morning, I think drainage ditches will get priority. I had to clean the trailer every hour because of mud on the floor and seats but can't complain, the temp was in the 70s and there was no dust.

We had another .95" of rain last evening giving us a total of 2.45" for Friday evening thru Saturday evening - very nice.
