I only have a 6' mower for 24+ acres, open cab, and I've been cutting it since 2002.
You are making me feel guilty, I mowed about 12 acres today with a 16’ finish mower behind a tractor with a climate controlled cab, streaming Spotify to the stereo. And my grandson keeping me company.

Here's a question for all of you guys, and there are many factors.....
I only have a 6' mower for 24+ acres, open cab, and I've been cutting it since 2002. Anyway, I've had my fill of seat time for mowing.
Still have to do other chores that I don't mind so much. Been having to repair hydraulic cylinders plenty lately....have another that is dripping now.
Rereading, looking for the question.
Mowing is indeed a chore, but also can be Zen, think time. I have to be careful asI often get a wild idea in my head that morphs into a project - think $$$.

Coffee is brewing. 39° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 74° with a few afternoon clouds. Pond water is crystal clear. I can now see where the dirt is in garden pond. Did vacuuming of pond bottom. More later cleaning later this week. Used tractor to take out some several shrubs that smell. Then cut grass in back 2 1/2 acres of my property. Finished off the day watching NASCAR race. Today I will do front grass cutting of my place.
We have a tail to tell.

David, good looking puppy.

Everyone stay safe and well.

Good Morning All.

Good morning, the low is 40 and going up to 64°F. Wind S 2 mph. Sunny!

Going to town today to ship off a box to Calgary. About the size of an alternator for the tractor. Gotta pick up a box of something at the same time and cash in my lottery ticket, renew it for another 6 months. I don't think it is worth much, just a bunch of free tickets, nothing good like the grand prize ($2,000,000.oo) or or even second prize ($100,000.oo).

I've got a bunch of small trees to cut down near the mouth of the driveway. The largest diameter is 8". The bigger ones I will rip two of them for runners under the portable shelter for over the big fuel tank. 25' of the smaller ones will go to hold gravel back from disappearing at the culvert. The ones I have there are rotten.

That is my day planned out.

Ron, nice tail. Would look good on a hat.

Have a safe day all

   / Good morning!!!! #206,270
good morning all
colder outside than I'd like for my veggies but definitely warming up from here on out
hope nothing is keeled over this morning

up earlier, reading my book, drinking coffee and just going slowly.
have a five dollar off 25 coupon at local supermarket, not a bad discount so I'll go use that this morning
on a few small things.

77 this afternoon, should be nice.
chased off another squirrel yesterday, really surprised how accurate bb gun is using just plain sights.
I don't have a good angle after I open my kitchen window to get all spots, but I wait til they climb up on the feeders.
if they stay on the ground, fine. Not sure they are smart enough to figure that out.

later today will wash my car. I now know I can't just squirt it off or I'll get mineral spotting problems like
I had before. So if I wash, I need to dry, but have big pile of car towels for that.
and then like snow falling I can watch the pollen pile up on the clean car... tis the season.
in two weeks I haul the Gravely up to NY and then JD mower goes to live in shed where it belongs.
And my garage will finally be empty enough to try to fit the car in there. Pretty sure it will be too tight.
Expedition is a foot longer than a suburban. Might have to take the tow hitch ball off, but really don't think it will fit.

hope you all have a fine Monday.

Morning all!
41 going to a sunny 72.
Been up goofing on the internet since 4:30.

End of the season for the pellet stove. I let it all burn out overnight. Today's job will be to slide it out and give it and the pipe a good cleaning. That will be it for my activity for the day.

Wife is taking her dad for a doctors appt. later in the morning.
Not sure when or if we will get our walk in.

Spent the day yesterday puttering and cleaning in the shop. One sister stopped for a couple hour visit. Not much else got accomplished. Supposed to be in the 80's and sunny tomorrow so will hopefully get the deck cleaned and ready.

Nothing else planned till Thursday when we will be going to the monthly coffee visit with family.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

good morning, 43 warming up to 72 and looks like a nice day

went to HD to pick up sheet of plywood for the wall in the welding shop to use for mounting the electrical outlets
Also needed more screws but priced by each is too much so went over to TSC where I got them by the pound

Had the phone conference with GD, D and mother on college plans. Set up expectations for financial support including money to make in the job over summer, GP average, as well as several over conditions. Not sure how committed she is but time will tell.

Did not get any mowing done so today looks good for that

Good Morning,
Ct, 42 to start going to 70. Beautiful bright blue skies and those big winds seem to have abated.

We still have 2 of our grands, one night. Opa needs a break 😂

Back from our first camping trip of the year
Tom, beautiful picture , nice place.
Here's a question for all of you guys, and there are many factors....
Kyle, that’s a lot of mowing in the Texas heat without a cab for AC, but not sure of the question. The older I get I find I can’t mow for hours at a time , 2 or 3 hours at a time. But some of the property is kind of rough and my lower back can’t take it anymore. I wish I could have someone with a dozer flatten the field for me.

David, beautiful boxer. Best of luck with the new pup. 🙏

Hope all have a great day. 🙏

39 outside right now. Lower 70's today.

No burn pile activity this weekend other than adding rounds to it. Finally cleaned up around the big trees in the front. Still have over 200 rounds to split, but they are all in the same place now in nice rows waiting for the splitter guy to show up. LOL.

20250427_141133.jpg

Washed and greased up the equipment yesterday too. Man that makes one feel good to have shiny stuff that works when mowing. LOL. Looks like tomorrow we will start cutting, again. Might be a weekly event now.

Hope all have a great day. Be safe.

Good Morning.
45° under a cloudless sky. High around 70 and continued clear.

Yesterday started with making pancakes for the kids and grandson. Then son, grandson and I went to neighbors to put a fountain in their pond.

The electrical work has been done for weeks, I’m not sure why they didn’t get around to getting the fountain in the water. We have it down pretty well from years of making mistakes and avoiding them the next year. So we approached it just like we do ours, put anchors with buoys to secure the fountain, and got it out into the water with waders until it floated, then positioned it from a boat with ropes positioning it from the shore. It didn’t take more than 15 minutes once we started. Neighbor sent me this picture last night.
IMG_5162.jpg

He was very appreciative.

Next chore was to locate a buried wire for another neighbor, and then putter some in the shop.
Went out to lunch with son and grandson, fixed the cameras at the restaurant, a software configuration issue, they would not let us pay for lunch, so far a good day for getting stuff done.

Got home, and grandson and I hooked up the progressive mower and mowed the open area around the house and shop.
Part of that routine is that we blow all the grass clippings off the mower and then park and unhook the mower. Grandson insists on blowing it off by himself and then working the rear hydraulics to fold it up before we park it.

After reading other posts on mower to acreage ratio, I think I might be a bit overkill, but that part of the mowing sure isn’t a chore. Takes longer to mow inside all the pastures with a mower half the size mowing less area.

Today will get the mulch spread, l’ll need to get another load mid day if we get it all done.
