Good morning. No snow for us, we are back to wet and windy today with a pleasant 11C/52F that will have the grass growing again.
As I expected, I failed my hearing test yesterday, starting off the 1 1/2 hour session by failing to make out 12 of 20 sample words and going mostly downhill from there. My low frequency hearing is not bad, nor is higher frequency response a serious problem, but all the important frequencies in between, where people talk and birds sing, is not so good. I got to try a sample pair of "mid-price" hearing aids for twenty minutes and voices were certainly easier to make out above my background tinnitus when I stepped out into the street with them for a few minutes. People sounded a little strange, the lady said that is normal, it can take several weeks for the brain to adjust to hearing the missing frequencies again and during that time they keep tweaking the frequency response. No point putting this off any longer, so I signed up for a fitting/training session just before Christmas. In the meantime if anyone would care to share their experience of what it's like to wear hearing aids, I would be very grateful to learn more.
