good morning, 52 going to 73

Wife got the Shingles vaccination yesterday and hoping for only mild side effects since this the second one

Worked on greasing the roller bearing for the clutch on the 261. Seems this an often overlooked maintenance item. Also cleared a drawer in the tool cabinet and organized it for the chainsaw maintenance and repair tools.

Good morning, the low is 30 and going to a high of 55°F. Wind NNW 3 mph. Mainly Sunny!

Town run and drop off package for the old company and pick one up for me. Back to house and check hydraulic pressures on Kioti. That'll round out my day.

mostly, when I bought the Kioti ($31,000.oo) I put 10 grand down and financed the rest over 5 years. I never factored in the interest on the financing. I depreciated it 5%/year and added in the 12 grand for the BH I got 7 years in. Paid cash for the hoe. Added that to the price of the tractor and continued the 5% depreciation up to this year and came out to a price of $26,034.oo. So my w.a.g. of 27 grand wasn't too far off.
I wont know for sure IF I am going to do the company thing until well into May when I talk to the accountant. Now is not a good time for them, income tax season.

Time to get on with it.

Have a safe day all

55 going to 76. Feels good outside.

Ken, nice truck...I guess you'll take it to pick up a load of mulch today? 😁

More prayers for you guys, Buppies and Holly.

Rip, we've had active moles all winter...I wonder if the 17-year cicada grubs have gotten big and allowed them to spike in population. I've had to fill in several fox-dug holes, so hope they caught some.

Sodamo, Hula competition sounds like fun.

Finally finished all the grape arbor posts and supports. I used larger cedars than ever before, so hoping this lasts past me. I still have some clean up, and stretching and tying off some support wires underneath for the vines. I'm worn out, and only some chile rellenos will bring me back. First, taking Della for a hike now.

Scotty, good idea to wait to open your pool...here's what the river looked like Monday...Flowers from the Beech trees...

Forgot to post these pix of a different Beech tree that the windstorm blew over last week...

Good Morning,

Dennis I used the Gorilla All Weather tape, it was suggested by a contractor friend. It should do the job for many years to come.

🙏
It’s a butyl tape, so pretty much the same thing I’m using.
I don’t have time to do much work today, got my Derm body scan this afternoon.

Good Morning! 0.61" rain last night from the West. 65˚F heading to 80˚, S wind, still 20-25% chance of more rain today.

The gas hearth room fireplace will not light, have the fireplace man coming to repair it, just hope he has the parts on his truck. Went to the Blue Hole in town yesterday, without much rain it is mostly a green hole swimming area. It is on the San Gabriel river that runs through town. The interesting part of the short hike was the old town cemetery on the banks of the river. We are previewing some central Texas places to take my cousin and her husband when they come visit from Germany next month.

Morning all, 56 to 76 and sunny.
Been checking out and moving stuff and ordering stuff for the truck. Got the app working, pretty useless. Found the little tool set, air pump and can of sealant. Has run flats though.
Big subwoofer and battery where the spare used to go.

Wow Phil, you got that lathe set up and put to work quick, can't wait to see what gets made. Hope things work out.

Back to the day job,
Be well,

NJ Pine Barrens are on fire, Lacey Township, so far mostly burning up the woods and not houses.
Happens a lot, my understanding is usually caused by lightning.
but also caused by human error or arson.

if Popgadget is flying anywhere near bet he can see the smoke

Good Morning
66° now at noontime, high of 75 and sunny.

Yesterday’s trip went smoothly, but used up most of the day.
Here’s the view of Cape May, NJ on our descent into Philly, and one from on top of the clouds at 45,000 feet.

After saying I was taking a break from the deck today, I went and pulled the nails on the last 3 boards.
Then mowed the back field and along creek. Found a casualty of the wind the other day.. Just had to catch that tree..

if you look at Popgadget's first picture, there are lights along the coast and lights in center of state and in between them on
Eastern side are the Pine Barrens that catch on fire.

barbecued a burger on a beautiful day
with that lump in my stomach I am feeling happily lazy
without a car can't go look for plants so going to conserve energy today
though three loads of wash are getting done and I scrubbed the bathroom.
domestic activities almost done, can goof off

Well, I went to check the hydraulic pressure and the connections for the loader are smaller than the female fitting on the tester. So I went to the rear to check those lines and I had the wrong fitting on the tester. Had a female and needed a male. Today was almost a total bust. :(

I did get my appointment (May 12) to get the A/C, oil change, tire swap and check engine light all fixed on the Dodge.

Am waiting a call back from the towing outfit that will be hauling the tractor up to the shop on the 13th for all filters except the air, rebuild both curl and lift cylinders and change the oil on the Kioti. I'll schedule that for the 14th.
Now to find the money to pay for all this.

my friend whose ancient Mom lives in Pemberton NJ, and thus potentially affected by the wild fire smoke, wrote me:

It is claimed that native Americans near the Delaware would start fires
when the wind was blowing from the west, while those near the shore
would start fires when the wind was blowing from the east. This, it is
said, burned the duff and enabled pine cones to heat up and explode,
spreading their seeds and rejuvenating the pine barrens. Routine
burn-offs kept the subsequent wild fires from becoming catastrophic,
though annoying.

Sounds nice. Wonder whether it's true.

Years ago the fires service conducted a controlled fire that included my
parents' former blueberry field. The fire reached their driveway up the
bank from the lower acres.

Notable was the glowing embers fueled by downed sassafras trees. The
exposed trunks seemed to protect the glowing undersides from rain and
evening moisture, and as a source of ignition, the smoldering undersides
lasted for easily a week or ten days. My mother didn't relax.
