I think tomorrow while it is warm out I may top off the furnace oil tank. According to the gauge it is sneaking down to the 1/4 full mark.

at some point, assume it gets worn out and has to be replaced?

I have replaced the furnace myself with the same model. The refractory lining is replaceable in the firing tube and needs to be replaced periodically.

12 deg this morning was the low for the year so far. Yet the geo units kept up. makes little sense, other than less wind and the pellet stove turned up higher last night again. Now 32deg., turned pellet stove down before I left this morning
Just got back from breakfast with the gang a day early, wife didn't go. we sat around and chatted a long time. They were already making pizza's by the time we left.
Made Sams club run, mostly to get 2 cases of Maria Calendar soup. That is so much better than campbell's, and Sams has way more soup choices than costco. Picked up some of their chicken salad to try, and cereals that costco doesn't have. Gas there was $2.77. Do prefer costco gas station, it's larger, but more crowded. this one rejected my card the first time, but finally took it.
Trash got picked up today.

I'm around 40 posts behind, so now to catch up on everyone's day.

Plans for today...4 hours at part store,2 stops in town for fuel critter food,maybe afternoon nap keep eye lids open for Ohio vs Texas game tonight.

Yep, that's cold, alright.
I remember camping at Cumberland Gap on a backpacking trip. Got down to -20 one night. The fried eggs froze to our aluminum plates before we could eat 'em. Had to chip 'em off!

reminds me of a scout backpacking trip one year on AT in PA, they left at 0 deg F and there was wind chill. so glad my son got sick and didn't go, so I didn't go... I did drive them up to drop them off, and helped pick them up the next day. actually had to go back and retrieve one of the scouts the first day, after he slipped and hurt himself on the ice. Yes, those AT trails get slick. I climbed the hill on the AT up to High Rock in the snow on one of our 10 mile hikes.

but a lot of neighborhoods still have homes with cedar shakes for roofing. Doesn't take much of a spark to get those going.

They outlawed those in Houston in the late 70s after New Years eve fire works (bottle rockets) started a roof fire and it spread quickly to 14 homes all wood (cedar) shingles. They also had some apartment fires that they could not get ahead of. Looks like California will have to make new laws because the homeowners are not fire smart. Insurance companies should stay clear of those houses.

Replacement surface pool (skimmer) bot was delivered today and is already earning his keep on this windy day, Yea!

Forecasting dusting to inch snow starting before daybreak,I got feeling 3-5 inches when all said and done.

Good (Saturday) morning. Overnight Low of 18.3C and it's presently 23.0C, overcast & fairly calm. A bit of rain has occurred, post 0900, with more expected.

With all of yesterday's activities I did get out for some 'tractor fun' and chain-harrowed Paddock #4. I didn't bother mulching with the z-turn as the horses hadn't eaten all of the long grass, so I'll let that go to seed.

As I mentioned, rain showers for today and tomorrow so it's a hang-out with my visiting Mate.

29˚F. It has been below freezing now for several hours.
The pool pumps have started their emergency freeze protection mode of operation. They have started because the water in the pipes near the pumps has reached 34˚. It is circulating the 40+ degree pool water through the pipes by the pumps.

Good evening all. 29ºF for the start, overcast sky, light breeze. Light to moderate wind, overcast broke up later in day, and high temp was 36ºF. Starting tomorrow warm up until Friday then Forecast is to cool down near where we are now . Made coffee to start the day, made oatmeal for breakfast, stoked fire after grooming ashes, DVR quit recording quit recording, worked that out. Got nap, dinner at stepdaughters house.

Poured first cup of coffee. 18° with light snow this morning. Heading to 31° with cloudy skies. Got a couple of things done outdoors yesterday. Didn't take long and my fingers were very cold even with thermo gloves on. Put things away and headed back in house. No Sassy walk yesterday. Got 2" of light snow overnight. Will cleanup walkways after it gets light outside. Going to be another conserve energy day.

sorry you folks in Texas are so cold, must be hard on some plants.
no plans for today, will take leaf blower out later and blow off the snow on walkways
stopped at hardware store yesterday for more ice melt, just a small container as I have ordered a big
pail of the stuff online.
