I was bidding on the 418 and the tiller. While I was updating my bid on the tiller, I missed the end time on the 418. It sold for less than my next bid was going to be. Then the tiller went for more than I was willing to pay. Oh well, it's not like I NEEDED them...

Yep, I was watching the tiller thinking of sniping -- then it went past what I was willing to pay...

Same thought -- I don't need another tiller (have a 46" one here in MA for the Simplicities) but it would've been nice to have, and to leave in East TN to use there...

Oh well...

rats, I think we were all watching that tiller.

Up until an hour from the end, it really didn't look like there was much interest, so I figured that I could walk away with it for $250. I put in a bid on my bidnapper account. But I don't really need it right now, so am not willing to pay 50% of the retail price.

The guy who won the PT418 and the tiller got a good deal overall.

While it's a good deal for the buyer, it's a little disheartening to see our PT's have such little resale value

I don't think that Ebay is the best way to sell a PT. I think that this forum is the best way to sell your PT... it was after I started reading this forum that I discovered that I NEEDED one, after all (not really sure how that void in my life came about).

I don't know if the resale was that bad. Your looking at a tractor that's maybe 10 years old and sold for what new? Two or three times what it just sold for on ebay? I'm selling a 2000 GMC pick up and I expect to get about 1/3 of what I paid for it new. Would any small 18hp tractor hold it's value better? I'm not saying I know but I think little tractors might depreciate faster than larger one's.

Resale value on a used name brand CUT is pretty good. I always bought used at a very good price and maintained them well. When i sold them after 4 or 5 years to upgrade, i got what I paid or more but i usually sold them with the tire chains i would buy for them. As much as I love my PT, I would be surprised if i can do the same thing. On the plus side, with the PT, I am not feeling the need to upgrade yet. Which is good because my only realistic option would be a newer PT.

Depriciation on cars is insane. We bought a 3 year old Impala for $12,500 that sold for $26,000 new. The car lost half its value in three years. It had about 45,000 miles on it, was kept in immaculate condition, all the options, etc..., still had factory warranty on it and the original owner ate $13,500 in three years. I bought one new car in my life and will never do that again. What's the point of buying new if you can get almost new for half the price?

As for tractor resale values, from everything I've heard and the few times I looked, name brand, big three small tractors really do hold their value over the years. Why? Probably because they only get 50 hours a year on them, are still in great shape, have been maintained well and have great reputations as being dependable, long lasting machines. The PTs don't have that long lasting reputation. What they do have is they fill a niche market that no one else has touched yet.
