That's a pretty fine looking truck, especially considering the price you paid for it. If the 65,000 is correct, that's pretty low miles.

For about 6 months, I drove a 1980 school bus with a Detroit 6-71 (2 cycle) and 200,000+ miles on it. That was a 43,000 GVWR 3 axle and so the engine was under a load all the time, loaded or empty. The engine burned some oil, but she started every time and ran well. Around town and some freeway/country roads, it got 7 mpg. It was a 5 speed crash box with single speed axle. Top speed was about 60 mph.

A truck like that would be ideal for me.

Just south west of Minden, ~20 miles from Carson City.

Bird- I guess we're pretty lucky, they don't make 'em like they used to!

Thanks Joe, it didn't look like that when I first got it. It was a State truck so I think the milage is right. The oil tests indicated the engine is in good shape, and the rest of the truck is pretty tight. It has 4.88 gears and toots down the highway easily at 65-70. I registered it for 22k GVW but it would carry more, the helper springs are about an inch from touching loaded with 5 tons of gravel. Empty it weighs ~12k. Has a Detroit 8.2 Turbo and an Allison MT 653 5 speed auto. No idea on fuel milage.

That has got to be Kingsbury Grade in the background. Very beautiful country. You are fortunate.

That is a real nice lookin truck. I saw that you were able to register it for 22000 GVW which means no CDL license. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Have fun!

Its a C-7000.

I did have to get a class B CDL because it has air brakes. In Nevada the tags cost according to GVW and as long as that weight is not exceeded a person can regester any truck for any weight. I figured 22k would be a happy medium.

The class 'B' I got is non-commercial which does not require a physical, same license except I can't drive for hire, which is something I won't do anyways. BTW, what a hassel getting it, but thats a whole different story!
