General tractor selection

I need something primarily to adapt forks to so I can unload 1500 lbs max sheets of steel. I thought a used tractor/loader with adapted forks would work besides giving me other options. Forklifts are very expensive, fiddley, heavy and limited in use. But ... where to start. So many models, so little knowledge.

The unit needs to lift at least 8 feet, be able to be carried on a flatbed with a load max of 6000 - 7000 lbs, lift 1500 lbs, cost less than $7000 used and be common enough to get parts for.

Any ideas on possible brands and models? Thanks
