Gas Gauge Available??

I have a 2006 GT2550 that I bought new in Aug of 2008 and I love it. The only complaint that I have other than the uncomfortable seating position is that there is no gas gauge. Does anyone make a gas cap with the floating type gauge? My dad's old 580 had that type in the middle of the hood and it worked great. Thanks

I see these float-style caps at a few of the small-engine repair places in town. Take your old cap along for thread check, and measure how deep the tank is straight down, and then see what fits. Doesn't have to be a "Cub" gas cap as long as it fits.

I agree a gas gauge or idiot light would have been a very good idea. After running out of gas so many times we now keep a dedicated 5 gal can where the tractor is parked. Sure you can have a look/see but even if the gas looks good...it's not. We'll top it off before trusting it'll make it to the mailbox and back.

I'm pretty sure there is no easy solution like an after market cap etc.

What about a sender that bolts into a new hole in the gas tank? There are a ton of options out there for adding remote senders to marine fuel tanks that handle the rough ride fine. I even found a non-float electronic gauge kit for a Rhino ($127) that would work if it fits in the tank.

i dont see any way that this is going to be resolved cheaply, unless you keep doing what you have been. i would check out summit racing and see what they can turn up. they have about everything imagineable.

Resurrecting this thread to let everyone know you can get a gas gauge for the gt2500 series and new models at the following ebay store for $24. This guy adjusts the length on Kelch gauges to fit the 7.25 inch depth. If you disable the seat switch you can get up and check your level periodically. :thumbsup:

I finally ordered a gas gauge from that guy on ebay. It was $27 and some change shipped. I will let everyone know what I think of it after I get it. Anything is better than what I have now (nothing). Even though I fill up before I mow every time I still manage to run out of gas once in a while and it is usually when I am mowing our neighborhood park that is about a 1/3 of a mile down the rode and I have to walk home to get gas.

Mine quit working after 1 season...the foam float is still there and it'll register manually, it just doesn't float anymore.

I hope that I have better luck with mine. I just got it in and put it on and it works great so far. If it holds up it is a major upgrade over nothing.

I finally got my fuel gauge. Works great and now that I disabled the seat and reverse switches I can mow much more easily. It registers level from full to empty smoothly as the float moves up and down. I hope the float continues to float per the previous discussion.
