Gas cans - really

I bought the yellow diesel cans from Walmart and added the EZ-Pour Hi-Flo spouts with vent kit from Tractor Supply. With tax it comes to near $30 a can but they work.

You can still get non safety cans- you can buy a plastic motorsports type fuel jug like this: JEGS Performance Products 8:sneaky:: Square 5-Gallon Utility Jug, White | JEGS They're nice thick plastic. They come in yellow for diesel. I've been using some like that, though not as well designed, for 25 years. Originally bought for my race and offroad motorcycles, now for generator and ATV gas. Mine have hoses that come out of the caps, with stoppers.

Government has ruined the gas can. So instead of dealing with their modifications, I've learned that it's faster and easier to just take the spout off and pour directly from the can into the tank. Now if I could just find a gas cap for the can so I could through the spout away and never deal with it again.

I agree, the No-Spill brand cans are the only ones that work worth a **** nowadays. They let you fuel fast with no leaks and no BS. All the other ones I have tried are junk and a pain to use.

The white square cans work great. I have been using them for several years.

It is asinine what our government of the people by the people for the people has done to something as basic as a gas can. I buy my diesel in a 55 gallon drum in the back of my truck, transfer by gravity to a different 55 gallon drum with a pump on it. I use fuel cans only for the two cycle stuff, and I've got enough of the old stuff to last me till I die.

I concur with the votes for these cans. I have had good luck with them - much better than some of the other cr@p on the market. Now for diesel, I use a 14 gallon (red) container, with a hose. I hang it off the bucket or forks to get some elevation and just let 'er drain until full.

Craigslist and on-line auction houses have the old pre-ban style gas cans. The Chiltons are my favorite style and I've even got some of them for free on CL.

Add a vent (multiple sources on ebay) and I can pour 5 gallons in under a minute. The No-Spill diesel cans are the bomb. I put in the vent, and the pour time went from maybe 4-5 minutes to under one for 5 gallons. Highly recommend. The red cans, I have the vent, and bought a couple of the EZ-Pour nozzles. Solves the BS Govt. problem.

The "spouts" of plastic fuel containers usually consist of a threaded ring, the spout, some sort of gasket, and (if old style) a disk that doubled as a cap. I have discarded the spouts of 2 new jugs I bought. On one jug I found the disk from an old, unserviceable container fit. For the second, I just cut a disk from the side of that unserviceable jug so that it was a tight fit in the ring. As our all-knowing government has deemed it unnecessary to have vents on 5 gallon containers for overpressure or vacuum, I haven't worried about pressure changes. My jugs are either full or empty so thermal expansion or pressure has not been a problem.

I've spilled less fuel wrestling the 40+ pounds of 5 gallons into a funnel at chest height than I've spilled struggling with with the new containers.
