I would also worry about plowing into drain field tiles.

I was once told by a Health Department Sanitarian that one should not grow garden root crops over your septic leach field because if there are any heavy metals present, they will be absorbed by such things as carrots and potatoes. Horses are particularly sensitive to lead, however I doubt a leach field would contain lead unless you employed some sort of hobby or occupation that flushed lead into your septic.

Personally, I wouldn't be all that scared to do it, but it all depends on your local conditions.
In my case, the leach field is down more the 5', and it's all sandy soil with no real groundwater till you get down to 100' deep. I wouldn't think twice about it, but I'm sure that some of you guys with clay soil, high groundwater, and shallow leach fields are in a completely different situation.
