My old fuel filter was located low and underneath the tractor by the factory. It was so vulnerable I tore it off at least 3 times when bushhogging areas where there were hidden limbs etc.
I asked the shop to either relocate it or place a guard cage around it to protect it. They placed it under the hood in front of and at the top of the radiator. My brand tractor had some of the models have the fuel filter placed behind the cab high and near the fuel fill location and I mentioned that but apparently that was not a good option. My tractor has a tendency to run warm so I have both side cowlings off. Still can get pretty warm at times.
It certainly is in a safer place but I wonder if the heat in summer will warm the diesel fuel enough to cause any issues. In the old days of gas engines heat soak could cause vapor lock on with mechanical fuel pumps. Not sure if the diesel pump fuel systems have no heat issues.
Hope it works as it was a $600 project with a new filter and labor. Thoughts or comments.
This may make a difference. The factory fuel filter has a glass/plastic bowl of perhaps 1/2 pint. The new fuel filter is metal and holds at least a quart I would say or 4 times the capacity so perhaps that will keep it cooler. Fuel flow at full power is now much more that 1 gallon per hour on this 45 HP tractor so perhaps there is enough fuel going through that that the diesel fuel will not get too hot. Might be of limited benefit in the winter once the tractor starts in the cold and warms up some but I use it little then.
