Front Axle lubricant

I am replacing the axle seal on my 2014 Boomer 24 TLB. I have always used transmission fluid in my front axles and I read last week about a guy that uses gear oil which I assume he was talking about 90w gear oil. What do you use in your New Holland front axle?

I don't have a manual for the Boomer 24 but I do believe that the 80-90 wt gear oil is what actually goes in the front axle?

Has anyone used gear oil in front axle (instead of the hydraulic oil that the manufacturer recommends) AND had an issue?

Florida rodent (resident) so not likely to have any issues with gear oil being to thick when below freezing... Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge and experience.
