Same thing Happened to Me with AVG. Not a virus though. The free year ran out & Would no longer update. I Just went to the control panel & uninstalled it completly & got Avast also. Better then the old AVG , IMHO . But as all other Free ones, You Might have a pop up Once in awhile if You have it set up on automatic update .
Google searches seem to be Overloaded with Viruses from innocent looking searches these days I,ve noticed & Avast has stopped everyone of them so far from Loading. Best of luck.
