I'm looking for ideas (pictures are a bonus!) of ways to frame a deck for an above ground round/oval pool. Most concerned about the frame following the contour of the round part to some extent. I have a way in mind, just not sure that it's the best method at this point...

Thanks!

Do some research online at the pools sales places, I've even seen some poly ones that you run the water thru to heat the pool and cool the deck - pretty cool!

I built a square deck around a round pool. I'm not a carpenter and don't know the terms for sure but I put supports for the decking around the pool making an octagon shape and triming the decking to make the round part at the pool. My decking planks run in alternate directions on each quarter of the deck.

mathey - several years ago at our last home, I added an above ground pool to the delight of the wife and kids. Was able to 'cut' back into the slope and deck out to it, giving somewhat of the illusion of a built in. IMO, the posts and joist supports can go any which way as to make your deck board installation easiest, as they will/can be hidden. Attached is a pic of the decking from above as I laid it out.

Looking from below towards one end of the deck, you can kind of see how the post and joist supports simply follow around the edge of the pool. The deck shapre really is a function of the joists and decking. I just made certain to have a joist 'radiating' out appropriately to provide nailing support for the decking board ends where they joined.

I 'cantilevered' the decking over the pool wall top edge as opposed to 'butting' up against it. I made certain there was room to slide the cover between the two, as well as a little post settling fudge factor.

Took me a long weekend to get the deck done, another for the darn railing and staining... Last pic, hope they help.

If you make the deck sections radiate away from the pool perpendicular to the section caps on the pool wall, it makes things a lot easier. I didn't and had to do some creative framing underneath.

As was mentioned, be sure to leave room for the winter cover to slide between the deck and pool, but be sure to leave no room for foot entrapment. A foot stuck between the deck and the pool could be fatal at worse and twisted ankle/broken leg at best. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
