I been trying to figure out since we bought our used 9N from auction as to why the throttle isn't able to properly control the governor from going full wide open throttle? I doesn't have to be dialed very far like 4-6 notches for the governor to go wide open revving the engine forcing me to crank down the throttle to idle to prevent damage to the engine. I compared the throttle linkage to our 8N and the governor setup is different from governor for our 8N. So does anyone know how I can further check how and why the 9N governor or linkage parts is causing this wide throttle takeoff?

if you move the throttle and then it suddenly kicks high.. then I'd say the governor flyballs probably have flat spots and there may be grooves in the races.

time to pull the gov for a looksee.

also keep in mind no preload and no tension onthe gov springs.

I&T fo-4 manual hs the adjustment procedure for the gov.

as a test, disconenct the rod from the gov to the carb and manually manipulate the carb butterfly.. should be able to achive normal motion of throttle that way with no runaway.. if so.. check gov linkage rods, springs, and the gov itself.

Ok I will do that and another farmer friend that owns a 8N told me to do that as well just today. So I will give that I try.
