FORD 445 ISSUES

We have a Ford 445 tractor that will not start without a shot of ether. Once started it runs for about 15 minutes then dies. Any ideas?

This is with the PTO engaged with a tiller attachment. It almost seems as it is over heating but we're not sure.

Address your problems one at a time. They may not be related. Starting - does the exhaust show any smoke while cranking? Do you have a manifold heater and does it work? Is it turning over fast enough to start? How long has the problem existed? Did the starting problem and the engine stoppage come on together, or is one a newer condition? When the engine dies, what has to happen before it will restart? Just take some time passing or do you have to bleed any part of the system?
The starting issue could be low compression, weak injection pump delivery, or both. The stopping problem could be lack of supply(if you have to bleed it) or blocked return passage to fuel tank(if it starts right back up after five or ten minutes
