I am considering a 65 Ford 3400 with industrial loader. Starts and runs good and fits my budget. I would appreciate any feedback.

They are a sound tractor. The only real weak point is the drum brakes. It should serve you quite well if that is what your needs require. The solid front axle makes it a pretty good loader tractor.

BuzzyG : WELCOME ABOARD! ...I had a Ford 3400 Industrial tractor with loader and full hydraulics. This old girl had been worked hard and bought and sold, used and abused quite a bit before I found it at the local Case-IH dealer.

At that time I needed something heavy enough to start digging my lake (pond) and the dealer whom I knew, refused to dicker further. Instead he loaned me a nice sized, long tongued, truck tired, hydraulic earth mover (free) for the summer, "IF" I bought the Ford. Deal made,..he insisted on sending the bucket to the local Mennonites for a new cutting edge prior to delivery.

OK, I admit I worked that tractor and earth mover and bucket etc pretty hard all summer long. This old Ford was not one I intended to wash and polish and so it was a perfect candidate for patch up welding jobs and old coat hangers, I even had my big old winter tire chains on to get a little more traction pulling the discs. That Industrial, heavy duty tractor worked hard, hardly ever let me down where I couldn't do a patch up job and keep going.

Because of the hot sun that summer, I went up to TSC and purchased me a nice canvas "Buggy-Top". It could quickly fold back like a convertable top for the times when you just couldn't sit any longer or the clutch leg started to charley-horse,.. you could "stand-up-drive" awhile. That is one thing I really miss with my JD-3520-Cab!

Didn't mean to drag this out so long,...just wanted to express the fact that "my" particular 3400 Industrial (much heavier than a farm model), even AFTER its years of rough treatment,...it served me "very" well and I would highly recommend them!!

Very best of luck to you!

PS : ...the 3400 Industrial was my first tractor with "power-steering" AND it had what appeared to be an OEM steering wheel "spinner",....on it's large (22"?) steering wheel, a dream when handling other things at the same time!!

My first task is to brush-hog land for a home-site, view to the creek, and trails through a heavily wooded 15 acres in the Piney Woods of East Texas. I would like to be able to push some trees over rather than have to stop and cut everything out.

Down the road, I also plan to build a road (blade gravel), dig a pond, lift building supplies onto the second floor, etc. etc. etc.

BTW - This is a gas tractor. Does that matter a lot?

Thanks for your generous help.

Thanks for all the help! I am going to see the thing tomorrow.

Where are the FEL controls on this machine?

Thanks again!

Controls for FEL on mine were handy to your right hand and by way of two valves side by side. They were mounted on a steel plate which unfortunately was not far from your right knee. (for us long legged beggars). Sudden stops would have your knee bumping it,.. sometimes painfully. I hung a thick rubber mat over the area and added a piece of soft carpet to that which worked well.

Trying to recall that particular plate,...seems to me it would have been the right side loader mast,....to which I also attached a plastic milk crate as a tool box and an old truck mudflap for a lid. And no, it didn't stick out the side very far, hardly came out to the rear tire width. Not too fashionable but worked well for me back in those days!

Good luck with it!
