Ford 3000 Muffler

We have a 1974 Ford 3000 diesel that has a bent muffler. Got too close to the trees and it bent the muffler down some. The pipe going in to the manifold is still straight, it's just bent at the muffler. I got a new one for it the other day, but I cannot get the old one off. There's an exhaust clamp on it where it slides in, I was able to get that off. But it won't move at all. Anyone have any tricks or tips?

The best way I found for that situation is to use a small air cutter with a 3" wheel. Slice along the muffler as far as it is on the pipe, and it should pull right off. The tricky part is not cutting so deep that you damage the pipe underneath.

Would a Dremel work with a small cutting wheel? It's kinda tight in there.

Cut the muffler off above the hood, then remove the hood.

I am going through the same problem on my 4000 right now. There is an adapter that fits down into the exhaust manifold and the muffler goes on the adapter. The adapter is a tight fit into the manifold. After almost 50 years, the adapter has rusted into the manifold and is hopelessly stuck. Rather than fight it, I just went ahead and bought a new manifold for $45. The adapter was $15. Of course one of the bolt heads rounded off so then I had to get bolt extractors too.
