Ford 1710 stays on hot

Hi, i have a ford 1710 that had a old temp gauge stuck on hot so I replaced the temp sensor and installed a new temp gauge that stays on hot as well right out of the box. I am new to this site and hope to find some help.

Electric...2 post on back of gauge. One I assume is a power supply the other goes to the temp sensor. It also has a dedicate ground wire. When I take the wire off the temp sensor and touch it to a ground it does nothing. When I touch the wire to a positve source it moves the gauge.

Have you tried pressure washing the radiator. Mine clogged with dirt after 20 years of use. I had the same symptoms on my 1310.

I had a 1710, clean the radiator like mention above and if that doesn't do it a thermastat would be my next item.

I flushed the radiator really good but I didn't power wash it. Just used a regular spray nozzle on a hose. The tractor doesn't seem to be getting hot. Just makes me nervous not knowing whether or not the engine is getting to hot.

Do you know anyone with a IR heat gun ? You could check the outer temp of the radiator or engine block. It should be less that the thermostat temp rating. A local garage might have one you can borrow or maybe Autozone if one is nearby.

if the gage goes 'hot' as soon as he turns the key on it CERTAINTLY is not a dirty radiator guys!!!!
